It certainly would send a message, but probably at the cost of many people's respect and loyalty. Some might fear you, but I'd never want to be that scary tyrant with all the power but no friends. 

Like I said, it would have have to fit the character. If you are playing an Inquisitor who simply has no desire for friends and wants to get the job done, no matter the cost even if it makes people hate them, then I could very well see an Inquisitor like that do it. Really unless its Adrian, I will simply execute the mage.

A lot of people have been comparing these cards to actual toarot cards. Cole's becomes a lot more badass when you think about it

And yeah, it's more badass when you read the interpretation but I'm kind of a visual person so, haha, i think the other ones are in another level of graphic awesomeness, they gave Coley the short end ._. he looks like a child and his feet don't really look like feet, I don't know, it just doesnt convince me sorry haha but that's just me
