Batman doesn't do murder. He just beat the **** out of them.
That's why he dissaproves
He wouldn't like Varric killing them!

Considering they had their weapons drawn, it is not murder. It was defense more than anything. Defense of yourself, defense of Feynriel, defense of future victims.
And he has no qualms killing people if they are in his way. I point to the quests involving Bartrand and the house. He straight up threatens the woman who was in there.
I never said he never does threats or violence. I'm just saying he usually prefer to solve things in a non violent way. And when compared to other characters like Fenris and Anders, I honestly don't think the few instances where Varric loses his cool is that bad.
If I recall correctly you can still murderknife the slaver, after Varric convinces him to let Feynriel go.
Yep, you can
Well I think it was justified
I probably would feel the same in his shoes.
Well I think it was justified
I'm out of likes...but I like.
Oh, Varric is no paragon of virtue. I can say I probably wouldn't be as fond of him if he was, because I prefer flawed characters with a side of cheesy humor. ![]()

You said he doesn't like it when people threaten or use violence on him, yet he is fine doing it to others. Hypocrisy, thy name is Varric.

I really don't agree with that. And it's not like he revels in doing violence. I never got the impression that he likes resorting to violence or threatening people at all.

I honestly can't remember a time where Varric threatened someone with violence that wasn't just him trying to bluff his way out of a situation. Please give a specific example for us.
Whatever. You are all right. Varric is a being we should all inspire to be like. I should be flogged for daring to smear his good name.
Varric is just a smooth criminal.

The lady in Bartrand's house in the Act 3 quest.
You are right. Still, he threatened via fake authority.
He still did it. The fact that faking authority is the only way he can get out of problems peacefully is a problem.
You know what's funny, I think Josephine would have solved it the exact same way. Trying to solve it through talking.
Would you say she would have been partly responsible as well if she had solved it the same way as Varric?
The lady in Bartrand's house in the Act 3 quest.
I wouldn't count that. It was pretty heavily implied that was do to the red lyrium shards influence over him.
Give another.
Varric is just a smooth criminal.
Don't get that song stuck in my head ![]()

There is no fake authority there. And she tries to appeal to them, rather than pseudo-threaten them.
I wish a had a cheesy joke at hand to break the tension in here. I'm sure Varric would have one. ![]()

What's the difference? The only thing that mattered was to get them to release Feynriel.
And by appealing them she would have let them go as well.
Feynriel had a sword to his throat. Big deal if Varric bluffs to save Feynriel's life.

Even though you'd have to option to fight them anyway like with Varric ![]()
He doesn't always threaten people. He resolved the Starkhaven issue by simply lying and saying the Mages were already dead. There is no fake authority there. And she tries to appeal to them, rather than pseudo-threaten them.

And by appealing them she would have let them go as well.
What's the difference between appealing and threatening? Is this a serious question?
And from what we've heard of her, she'd appeal to them to the point they agree to turn themselves in. ![]()

Not at all this is a discussion thread after all, we discuss the good and the bad.
But it seems like you don't like Varric anymore, namely your comment about benching him permanently. And that's fine if you don't, I don't care how you play a game. However I do wonder why you would come into a thread for a character you appear to dislike, and I apologize if I'm wrong, try to antagonize the fans of said character.
