I don't like how he seems to be dragged along. I would much rather have preferred him coming voluntarily since he wants to help set the world straight again. Whether because of guilt that he was one of the ones who brought Red Lyrium to the surface or protect Anders, or because he wants to be there so he can tell the greatest story that will ever be told, or etc. 

There is a big hole in sky that's going to destroy the world, so I'm pretty sure he volunteers after that.

He just happened to be dragged to Haven (to explain his story once again to Divine) when things hit the fan.

Just think of the alternative: giving Sandal part of the idol instead. If it corrupts Sandal, our defeat is assured.

I'm not sure that he doesn't want to be there necessarily. I think he's upset because all this happened in the first place and now he has to stop it. I can understand that.

I don't think he's getting dragged along. He might not like some of the company he's now keeping, but I'd be surprised if he wasn't along voluntarily. Varric's the kind of guy who likes the world and thus probably wouldn't want it to end.

I like Gimli, I really do. But come on. If you're gonna compare Varric to a Tolkien dwarf, at least do him the courtesy of picking one of the sexy dorfs.xD

 

Edit: now that I think about it. I can't really come up with any Tolkien dwarf that you could compare Varric to. They aren't very roguish.

I can see him and sera bein besties.... but who besides the inquisitor will be his bro?  Fenris played that part ok in da2.... (they were at least card playin buds)....  we know he has issues with bull, will probably treat cole like merill, poke fun at viviene, guess its blackwall, i cant see him and solas having anything in common...

Kinda sad really, if it wasn't for the whole Qun thing between them I bet Bull and Varric would get along pretty damn well. They too seem like a pretty good mesh.

meh, i dont know if dwarf tossing will take off.... ogrhen kind of shot that down in origins when you told shale to toss him.... and i think he had some banter with zevran along similar lines..... doubt they would go further than that....

I think he might be a little more guarded than you think around dorian, but yeah i can sense some anders like banter in there.... like the cracking joke banters they did in act 1.  Maybe some rogue mage teasings.....  or maybe varric has a real issue with him and tevinter, him being buds with fenris and all

Well, now that I've read that piece of banter I'm even more interested in seeing him and Cassandra interact... Darnit, is it still so long until release?! Yep, guess it is.

 

Anyway, I'm kind of okay with Varric being a bit more solemn. It felt organic to have him being the kind jester in DA2 (and we all love him for that), but seriously, no one can get out of a sh*tstorm like what happened at the end of DA2 AND an interrogation with Cassandra without losing some of the happy-go-lucky attitude. I personally like the slight tension that's shown between them. I am thinking that they'll eventually get past their differences (at least that's the general feeling I have) or they will at least fight together despite their grievances (and I would call almost being stabbed in the crown-jewels something to hold a grudge over^^) 

 

Again, I'm not sure if I was all coherent and stuff, my mind resembles a smashed pumpkin right now... I think I caught the flu. Time for another painkiller and then some soup^^

It doesn't aways happen. Fenris and Anders never stopped hating each other untill the end game. Same could be said about Wynne and Morrigan, Varric and Sebastian, etc.

 

I actually would like to see some companions holding resentments till the end. I think it's a bit silly that just because they know each other a little better they would sit down and start singing cumbaia. I know my co workers for over 5 years and I still hate them all the same.
