I've got to say, though, that reviewer/narrator sounds like an idiot.  Oh, you've been dropped right into the middle of the game and none of the story makes sense?  OF COURSE IT BLOODY DOESN'T!

It shouldn't be surprise, though, to find that being dropped in the middle of something with no context leaves one confused as to context.  That's all.

Here's an interesting, mildly spoileriffic tidbit I noticed in this video.

Varric "slightly approves" when the red templar behemoth goes down. This backs up my old theory that Varric is involved in the Inquisition because he feels partly responsible for the creation of the Red Templars.
