I think Varric's Major problem might be that Bull might think that what The Qunari did in Kirkwall is what they were supposed to do.

"I'll stay here and keep a lookout. You go ahead ladies" Varric says, stationing himself in front of the main gate. Cassandra and Leliana go about their own way while Varric waits. Suddenly, he spots a figure making its way towards the gate. The person is moving stealthily and obvisouly doesn't want to be seen. What does he do?
A- Call for the person to identify themselves.
B- Shoot the skulking figure. (he has Bianca with him... somehow)
C- Stay quiet and watch what the figure does.
Varric watched as the dark figure walked past the gate. The person stopped by a ladder that would take them to the top of the wall. Varric decided to follow. As he reached the top he saw his target standing by a crate. As Varric came closer, he recognized the person. "Maker, what are you doing here at this hour?" he called. The person flinched and turned around. Who is it?
A - Cole
B - Sera
C - Scout Harding

We've seen Varric act antagonistically towards Cassandra because of what happened with her. It's possible he's going to act cold to IB for similar reasons: his world has fallen apart and he needs someone to blame. Varric being who he is it's a safe bet that he'll get over it eventually.
Now I'm tempted to have Varric, Cass and IB together... I wonder what happens...

I feel a little bad for Blackwall fans, they haven't seen anything from him.

Maybe Blackwall has too many spories (story spoilers) in his speech or quest line so they can't go show him off much.
I feel bad for them too. :/ He might be surrounded by lots of spoilers but surely they could pick out a few words that aren't plot related from him? I hope they'll get something soon.
As for Varric and his doubts about certain companions, I also feel like this will be something that dissolves over time as the big picture gets more important.
I was kind of sad that we didn't get any Blackwall but at this point we're only a few weeks from launch. I can wait a while longer for my bearded love!

I think we all do that sometimes
But tbh if the things people complain about are nitpicks, that's a good thing. It means that they think the rest of the game looks solid. I would rather have nitpicks (as frustrating as they can be) than serious complaints about gameplay or story.

I thought one of the devs said that wasn't the case? Were they not in the know, or did it change? Think we'll hear the story of his missing eye and fingers?

I'm not sure myself, if it's just a graphical error it's a huge coincidence for sure though. If it is true, my guess would be that he endured some form of torture at some point, perhaps. The eyes and fingers are common targets for that kind of procedure. I hope we hear the story if that's so.
Trying not to go too far off Varric, I'll add: nobody take that troll thread floating in here seriously. frogtoad is a well known troll by this point and I'm sure most of you know, but just a friendly reminder. 
I hope we can hug Varric too, not just the LIs.
