I have to admit, a part of me has been in mourning since they announced Varric wasn't romanceable... but I'm hoping while playing a female dwarf, he has a "if only things were different..." kind of moment. That might make me feel better.

That's certainly one way to go amount it. But really it would take a lot for me to let Varric die, even if he stabs us in the back ;-;

I just can't. Haha better to keep him at arm's length than get hurt in inquisition :'(

I know... I would never be able to go through with it. I know that the romance options that they've given us will be great, but I'm just really disappointed still. I just wanted a hot dorf guy to romance, is that too much to ask?!

Indeed it's unfortunate, but I respect the writers decisions to write our beloved dwarf the way they choose, as much as it stings. :'c Varric will just have to deal with most of my characters having a huge crush on him, secret or not.

I wonder if we'll only be able to flirt with him jokingly, or if we can actually pursue him and get turned down, like with Samara in ME2?

The joking flirts were fun in DA2, but I'm actually hoping we can legitimately tell him we have feelings for him in this game. Hawke was Varric's best friend so I can understand why they acted the way they did, but the Inquisitor is a new face so I'd like to explore the non-romance flirts with him (if there are any) at a different angle.

I wouldn't mind it if you can flirt with him and get turned down. Like a less clueless Aveline or something. I kind of need it for my lady Cadash. It would be out of character for her not to flirt with him

I know for my first Inquisitor, if it ends up possible that is, I want to have her fall for Varric first but when she realizes he doesn't feel the same way she respects it and moves on.

I'm going to headcanon that Iron Bull helps my human mage get over heartbreak and she ends up falling for him. Seems fitting since this would have been the character I would have romanced him with. I wonder if he is still going to comment on our relationships...

Lady Insanity said in twitter that she thinks Hawke will briefly be a player character in a mission and that she'll explain why later, but hasn't yet lol

Just want to add that I am really loving reading this topic.  I'm a big Varric fan and would have loved it if he were romanceable in DA-I.  However, I will have to make do with whatever interaction is available to me.  He will make a wonderful companion, I'm sure.
