I heard that having Varric keep the red lyrium idol back from DA2 had negative consequences in DA:I, but if so, I must have avoided it somehow.
Anyone care to enlighten me?

I still can't run DAI because my laptop ain't new gen. ![]()
In other news, the licensed Varric necklace is so expensive. ![]()

Pretty necklace!
no, its not red lyrium related.... it has to do with the "here lies the abyss" quest, it changes to normal or distraught, then after his personal quest and maxing broship, it should change to either him playing cards or writing something
Started a second playthrough with a DW Female human. It's really hard to play DW, even on normal. Maybe it's my party setup but I keep getting my ass kicked.
Anyway, some minor romance spoilers.
Oh and here's a fun little tidbit. My sister came in from college for a bit and I decided to let her play a bit. She wanted to see all the male LI's on my save and she had some funny reactions.
Iron Bull: Sooo why is he called Iron-....oh **** he's actually a Bull. That's weird.
Blackwall: Oooo he's bae. Beard all day.
Dorian: Oh jesus. That mustache.
Solas: I like his face. But his lack of hair ruins it for me.
Cullen: He looks like a frat boy...why is his face so shiny ?
I was quite offended by her reaction to Dorian. He is gorgeous and I shall not hear otherwise. ![]()
Can I say that here?
Varric seems a bit lackluster in this game.
I think it shows that DA II was "his" story and he comes off as charming, witty, humorous and super-positive all around fun guy. Because that's the story he likes to tell.
DA:I is not his story and he comes off as far more worried and less witty. And Vivienne's question has not been answered to me: What exactly is Varric's role in the Inquisition? Other than getting on Cassandra's nerves.

Giving Sera an easy target to troll. I'm so calling her Vivvy from now on.
@Ceo: Haha, that's funny. XD I'm having a way easier time with my new DW character than I did with my mage... she died all the time. But as my first character she'll always be special to me.
Next romance will be hard for me to decide as well, but I think I may actually go for Cullen. o.O After playing through the game my opinion on romance for lots of characters have changed. I'm glad I went with Bull's romance first though, I was right in my guess that I would love him.
@Schall: I see it more as Varric isn't narrating this story. His flaws are more defined in it and he's far away from home and his best friend. I personally give him a break, he still seems the same ol' guy to me just with a bit more stress on his shoulders. The card game scene was one of my favorite parts of the game, maker love him lol.
Whoa this thread got pushed back far.
So I can't help wonder how they'll progress Varric from this point. He said he'd go back to Kirkwall. I do hope we get a DLC where we can help him, that'd be super awesome.
Now that I know I've got the banter bug. I feel like I missed a lot of the game my first time few. I still loved the characters. But apparently they're even better if you have the banters.
I really hope it's fixed within the next week.

I don't know what they can do with him at this point.

I have it too. I beat the game with like 10 banters heard total. :c

Is it known if making a new character can fix it. Or are you stuck with it no matter what character you play ?

Interestingly enough, I made a new dwarf and elf today and played a bit on both - I've already had half as much banter as I did my whole complete playthrough before with them... no clue why. The Hinterlands were usually so quiet but Varric is talking a lot this time lol.
...
Also! shameless plug of my hot Dwarf Inquisitor.
I'm proud of her.

There's a banter bug? I've not been hit with it yet it seems, as the group I've got just now (Varric, Bull and Cole), won't shut up.( Why, oh why does Cole have to ask the most awkward questions ever?)
Now I'm dreading missing out on banter, I hope they fix it soon. Oh and a patch to prevent voice switching would be nice, my inquisitors voice went from Alix to Sumalee after I talked Cullen about the before the dawn or whatever it's called quest. I like both voices but when you want your Inquisitor to sound a certain way, it can be annoying.

Some people just aren't getting much banter, but if you are, you should be in the clear. It's not happening for everyone. I'm jealous because I love Bull and Cole's convos and have been wanting to hear more. ![]()

Hahaha. I meant bad for him, of course. Not for us ![]()

I really am impressed. This is the first time I've thought of Cullen as more than the emotionally damaged templar. They did a really good job of giving him character development from the last two games. And the product of it is a very interesting character.
And then they go and screw Varric up royally....sorry, still bitter.
