Dusting this account off after not using it since the release of ME3...

Having finished the game last night and having some time to stew in it, I have a couple thoughts.

I really am impressed. This is the first time I've thought of Cullen as more than the emotionally damaged templar. They did a really good job of giving him character development from the last two games. And the product of it is a very interesting character.

And then they go and screw Varric up royally....sorry, still bitter.

Same here. I was so impressed I'm actually planning to romance him on my 2nd playthrough. He was second to last on my list right before Cass before playing the game. Amazing how experiencing the game can change one's opinion on characters so much. :D

I've had to go back and rehost my Inquisitrix images elsewhere... my hosting people keep emailing me to tell me my bandwidth usage has exceeded its limit, which has never happened in the ten+ years I've had this domain!  And all since I posted my Isileth images... so I've had to edit all the posts with them in!

Hmm who to romance next on my Qunquisitor. Sera is off the table because my husband wants to romance her. Josephine or IB?

What kind of personality do you have planned for this Qunquisitor? Because those two romances are extreme opposites, but I think they're both awesome. haha

I wonder how many more games Varric will be in. I'm hoping all the current voice actors love doing this so much they'll stick around for as long as possible!

I'd love to have Varric involved in future games, he needs these adventures for his stories!

But I wouldn't be against the idea of one last adventure before he admits its time to settle down and stay away from all the chaos. It's difficult to try to have different people in my group,  because I always have to have Varric. He's all kinds of impressive.

I love Varric, but I'm thinking about an interaction with him, Cole, & Solas:

Nihenli is more serious and more for keeping the status quo unlike Eirlys (who was super idealistic). A bit like Vivienne without the Orlesian outfits and sass. I think both would help her find a more fun side, with Josie being more sweet and romantic and Bull being more fun. :D

Oooh you're right... I can see that going either way. Perhaps play through it a bit and whoever catches her heart first? haha. :3

And I finally got a new expression, different from confusion, anger or general frowning!

A word of consolation to my fellow varricmancers:

The vibe I picked up with the first Hawke I saw in Inquisition was that Varric was in love with her, like Bianca, but was afraid to say it.

As for Bianca, total disappointment.  Really would have liked to set Varric up with Dagna or Harding, especially after Varric gets flustered talking to her for the first time.  Not like him to get flustered.

I still have hope that Varric/Harding will happen... one day. Varric has to move on eventually. Plus, they would make a badass couple.

I am horribly disappointed by Varric's lack of originality in selecting Iron Bull's nickname.

I really thought that was the direction it would go when they said all non-romances make story sense.  I'd have expected being able to tell him he and Bianca could make it work, or getting him to move on with Harding or Dagna.

Well, some of them are great, others not so much... remember, Anders was 'blondie', when I can think of so many better/funnier things right off the top of my head. :D But gotta say I love Curly and Ruffles, lol.

The whole reveal there was a bit of a letdown.  :( Was expecting better of an untellable tale, and I read somewhere her character wasn't well-received for stringing Varric along.  Although I think he came first and arranged marriage later.

 And shouldn't traditional surface dwarves be constantly lamenting and self-flagellating for being such a disgrace to the ancestors as being exiled to the surface?

Forget Harding and Dagna! I want to romance him! They can get their own dwarf guys!

Frankly though, I'm getting tired of Varric. They didn't handle his relationship with Bianca well at all. For a while I was excited that he might actually join the Inquisition full-time- become part of something bigger instead of just staying on the sidelines. But instead he doesn't really change at all. No growth whatsoever, and it's highly disappointing.

Most of the game felt like that to me.  :( And yet, somehow, all the story missions were so epic and amazing and entirely unexpected.  How'd they do that?

I agree. I was hoping that he would let go of his past, let go of his mistakes and let go of Kirkwall. Instead we got a passive aggressive Varric who keep lying to everyone, pretty much stays on the sideline and who doesn't really bring anything to the Inquisition except for when he introduce you to Hawke. I thought we would get something more about his spy network or merchants guild connections or at least a satisfying end to the Bianca plot. Instead he just felt like he was there to introduce Hawke and bother Cassandra.

As it its, he still has his moments. He's still Varric, but I'm just a bit disappointed because I wanted something else from his involvement. But this is all highly subjective. And as much as I complain, he's still one of my favorites.

I think they kept him on the sidelines on purpose because of his appearance in DA2.

Which does indeed raise the question why Varric was a companion at all, since he does only really introduce Hawke and stays by the fire for the rest of the game.

Not that I mind him being in the game though!

I read that no one has been able to trigger anything about whether Varric has the red lyrium or not.  My theory?  A DLC or some such is going to explore what it is, and Varric goes Anders-in-Legacy and needs the sense knocked back into him.  If he doesn't have it, he thanks his lucky stars that Hawke was smarter than him.
