I sometimes feel like I'm the only person who likes Alistair's romance but doesn't have a Queen Cousland paired with him. (I do have one Queen Cousland, but she's with Zev.)

 

I did that first, but my canon warden is an Amell who romanced Zev. As much as I love the idea of making my warden a queen, I've come to prefer marrying Alistair to Anora. Not only is it good for Ferelden, you're also able to get Loghain without screwing up Alistair. I love that grumpy old bastard too much to execute him!

Think I'm gonna put Frier with Josie and make a new character for Cass. Probably a human mage. Does anyone know if it changes some of the dialogue on your background if you're a human mage as opposed to a noble ?

I can confirm that sadly no dialogue changes with Cass during the romance if you play a human mage.

 

To be honest, everybody seems to treat the human mage still as a noble. I gues what Josephine said regarding mages from nobility getting more leeway is true.

I did! I really liked that Cole's personal quest involved both Varric and Solas.

 

They really became one of my favorite teams afterwards.

I actually had a discussion with Josie about how I felt about the Circle and whether I missed it or not and such with my mage Trevelyan, so I know there's some. I was able to roleplay that character a least a bit that she was bitter towards her family for abandoning her to the Circle at first but grew to enjoy it. Not sure if there's any romance specific mage dialogue though... Was kinda hoping for some bit oh well. xD

Question for you guys regarding letting Varric keep the red lyrium shard in DA2 and any DAI impact:

So, I'm halfway through my first playthrough - don't worry, I've been plenty spoiled, so I don't need kid gloves - with a world state where Hawke *didn't* let Varric keep the shard for Bianca.

 

I'm thinking forward to my next playthrough and was thinking about importing a Hawke I don't like (in order to make "Here Lies The Abyss" hurt a whole lot less for me. ). Incidentally, he let Varric keep the shard.

 

Were those pre-release rumors true that bad things happen to Varric in DAI if he kept the shard? Or did that end up being hogwash?

 

My next Keep world state hinges on this answer. LOL

*hugs* I understand. That part even bothered me a bit... :s But, I've thought a lot on it and have some ideas on why he's like that. Talked it out in his thread and it made me feel better. xD Was a good venting exercise. Coulda been a college essay.... if only college essays were on Dragon Age characters, I'd graduate with a 4.0.

I haven't tried a World State where he keeps the shard yet, but tbh if the rumors were true we would have already seen pictures or a rant or something about it... I've seen nothing. So it's doubtful.

I played the whole game as a female mage and I never caught any flirts for him myself. :c

 

As for the spoilers, I hope! That situation was just too underwhelming.

relationship limbo. I agree with one of the posts here that said that it feels like the relationship is one-sided. If the Inquisitor could get with Varric somehow in a DLC, that would be great, but barring that I echo that the relationship should either end or grow into something solid.

My female Cadash flirted with everyone she possibly could - Cassandra, Cullen, Dorian, Iron Bull, Josephine, Sera - before settling down with Blackwall, but there's no option for flirting with Varric that I ever found . Even female Hawke got to do that!

 

Weirdly enough, I never got one for Solas, either. Is it only available for female elves? The game didn't stop me hitting on Cassandra, Cullen or Dorian!

I couldn't flirt with Blackwall as a male character. It's just some characters not getting flirt options if you can't romance them with your Inquisitor, I guess. I wonder if they didn't have them with Varric in particular because they thought people would prefer not having flirt options with him again that get shot down.

Could be. I guess I'm just going to head canon that my Cadash is hitting on him like crazy when I'm not watching. There's no way in hell that she wouldn't flirt with him.

Meh... I'm kind of done with Varric. He's been a main character in two games now; I feel like his time in the spotlight is finished. He's not going anywhere, and that includes his relationship with Bianca.

I had a long discussion with a friend about Bianca and Varric's relationship. She thought that it was romantic that they were together after all this time, and thought it made sense that she didn't marry Varric as it would have "caused a small war". Personally I find that a poor excuse. If Bianca was really any kind of a decent human being- er, dwarf- she would have done the right thing. She would have either married Varric, or would have done her duty and gone through with the arranged marriage. In making the choice to get married, if she was any kind of decent Bianca would have told Varric that she loved him, but it was time for them both to move on. I can't accept the fact that she's kept him strung along for 15 years, nearly 10 of which she didn't even see him. Those are not the actions of someone who loves another. That's just pure selfishness.

 

And Varric is a numbskull for letting her get away with it. What kind of a person lets someone do that to them for that long?! It's pure lunacy! The man is sexiness on legs, and yet he lets this person yank him around. *sigh* I'd feel bad for him if he wasn't such a hopeless case.

I'd say that his trainwreck of a relationship with Bianca is precisely why he should get a little more development. I'd honestly hate for his character arc to end on this stale note... forever pining after someone who clearly isn't as invested as he is, and yet has him at her beck and call whenever she feels like he's worth her time. Horrible. I'm doing another run of DA2 right now and hearing him talk about Bianca the Crossbow is just depressing and slightly weird now.

 

Even if it's in an aside in a DLC, I'm hoping for a better resolution than this.

Agreed. But it's not just Bianca's doing, Varric is just as at fault for not realizing that he deserves better then being the other man and leaving the affair altogether. Like I said I'm disappointed that there's not option to encourage Varric to move on.

Also, this is the exact opposite of romantic in my opinion. It's pretty sad. And while I could tell both Varric and Bianca still cared for each other, I felt that they harbored lots of negative feelings to blame the other for their failed relationship. Varric blames Bianca for marrying someone else and Bianca has some resentment for him making up stories (I can only guess he tried to rework why she won't be with him).

I really wish I could have told Varric to move on. It's just so disappointing to see a character we consider to be a friend to just wallow in this dead end relationship :/

My only comfort is that this happened with the Inquisitor. If Hawke was there listening and we didn't have the option to shake some sense into Varric...
