Agreed. But it's not just Bianca's doing, Varric is just as at fault for not realizing that he deserves better then being the other man and leaving the affair altogether. Like I said I'm disappointed that there's not option to encourage Varric to move on.

Also, this is the exact opposite of romantic in my opinion. It's pretty sad. And while I could tell both Varric and Bianca still cared for each other, I felt that they harbored lots of negative feelings to blame the other for their failed relationship. Varric blames Bianca for marrying someone else and Bianca has some resentment for him making up stories (I can only guess he tried to rework why she won't be with him).

I really wish I could have told Varric to move on. It's just so disappointing to see a character we consider to be a friend to just wallow in this dead end relationship :/

I think Bianca just likes having Varric around because it's flattering to be desired like that. But really, I don't believe she loves him. If she ever did, she would have done the right thing and sent him off. And you're absolutely right- Varric is an IDIOT. Every female and some males that come across his path want him! Yes, it would have been hard to fall in love again, but it would have happened and it would have been a LOT better.

 

I still harbor that theory about Varric's fears as were revealed in the Fade- he doesn't want to wind up like his parents. My theory is that his mother and father hated each other and were miserable, so when he fell in love with Bianca, maybe he figured that what they had was better than nothing at all. To an extent I understand this, but really, the man is an adult. For all his romantic stories, he needs to take a good look at his own life and realize that it needs some serious re-writes, or the main hero is going to wind up alone and very unhappy.

My only comfort is that this happened with the Inquisitor. If Hawke was there listening and we didn't have the option to shake some sense into Varric...

 

Agreed on both counts. It's horribly sad, because you can sense a lot of sincere history there, but it feels just like that right from the get-go: history. For all that Varric is one of the most level-headed companions in the game, he's chasing something that isn't there anymore. It's frustrating to watch.

 

On the other hand, I can see why the Inquisitor wasn't given the option to encourage him to move on. He and the Quizzy can become friends, to be sure, but it's not the same as what he had with Hawke and other Kirkwall friends. He's part of the Inquisition mainly because he feels some responsibility for the situation. I love that Varric's part of the Inquisition, but I feel his first loyalty will always lie with the Champion... including whom he'll turn to for advice about his personal life.

 

I'm just going to pretend that my Hawke either doesn't know about this, or she has known and has been on his arse about it forever.

So....killed off Hawke instead of Alistair. Firstly, I don't know if it changes depending on personality. But aggressive Hawkes death line was great. And Varric's reaction was depressing.

I'll be sacrificing my Hawke on my next playthrough as well... sorry Varric... and Bela. :c I'm more attached to other characters than my own. Why I had to reload my first DAO game when Alistair insisted on dying in place of my warden.

Started the Josie romance as well. It's super cutesy. A little too much at times. But I like it. Still not as good as Dorian though.

Out of curiosity, were Hawke and Varric rivals in that file? I've been wondering if the scene of him "mourning" a rivaled Hawke is the same as a friendship Hawke. I can't imagine it would be.

 

Heck, I've been wondering about all of a rivaled Varric's lines. Maybe I'll change my Keep save for one of my playthroughs.

I'm currently on my second playthrough and I'm planning to sacrifice Hawke in this one. Is it hard to keep Varric if I do this? Because my Inquisitor is not really much of a nice guy and I don't think I've had a lot of approval from Varric so far. Hawke and Varric were friends in my Keep worldstate.

May not be the right place to ask this but during Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts... can anyone find Varric if he's brought along? I can't find him anywhere. Which is a shame because I brought him with me for his opinion of the place. But the guy's gone into hiding. xD (except when fighting)

I suppose the primary issue with why that wasn't doable was this was us meeting Bianca for the first time when really that *should* have happened in DA2 in the cut Coterie DLC or in Exalted March. 

 

As it stands, I hope it gets wrapped up in DAI DLC, as I think(and hope) that DAI should be Varric's last game as a major character.

I agree. Just give me some DLC with closure on that and I'll be okay. I'd have rather her just not been included in the game if that's truly all they were planning with it.

It is rather surprising that - given that it is meant to be an RPG - that we aren't able to push Varric towards resolution (of any sort).  Whether it is his choice to keep waiting, or to let go.  It'd be nice to have the option to meddle.  I definitely would have pushed towards letting go.  Ugh, the Bianca thing annoys me.

I was dissapointed with Bianca aswell. One of the biggest factors for me was that I thought she looked a bit generic. After seeing her comic designs, I was expecting something more along those lines.

I wouldn't say I was disappointed with the character as I didn't have any specific expectations for the character. I greatly disliked the character, but I wouldn't call it disappointment.

 

I'm disappointed in the plotline as a whole. That was a mystery that received too much build up for no pay off.

Despite how disappointing the whole plot may have been, the back and forth banter between Varric and Bianca during the quest was kinda amusing. Dat Laura Bailey/Brian Bloom combo tbh.

To any considering a Sera romance, I recommend not making an elf. It gets... complicated.
