The question is... elf or qunari? I was really invested in qunari at first, but now I think an elf would be adorable. Too many decisions to make!

She's threatening the INQUISITOR? Who is trying to help fix a mistake that SHE made that caused HUNDREDS of deaths?! I SO would have loved to just shout her out of Ferelden back to her stupid workshop. She contributed to Corypheus with her own stupidity.

Varric has SUCKY taste in women.

someone on tumblr tried listing all of Bianca's good qualities, and I'll give it to her for being a brilliant smith and figuring out that red lyruim

. but then the person started saying that the reason why she's not with Varric is because she loves him too much to keep him in harms way. That marrying another man was her way of protecting him from her family's assassins. And I might be even generous enough to give her that much credit... but no. At the same time, if that's what she choose to do, to keep Varric out of harm's way by not marrying him she should have kept 100% away from him. Varric says they've met up several times, where was her care for his safety then??

 

Anyway, based on what Bianca said to Varric before the end of the mission (something about "why don't you make up a new story to make this all better") it leads me to believe that she left him at the altar for more than just a sense of protection, probably more along the lines of he couldn't face facts or something. 

 

It's sorta sad that people keep romanticizing this really unhealthy relationship. I mean it's not unheard of to be in love with someone who isn't good for you anymore, but gosh, it's saddening.

Ugh... That friend of mine who I had the debate with- she said I was taking this too seriously. I said "No! Because these mimic actual relationships that actually happen! If you don't feel strongly about them then the writers aren't doing their job!"

Plus, Varric is a doormat with her. This guy has an awesome personality, but around her he lets her do whatever she wants. And people really are like this in real life. If it's this pathetic in a game, imagine how much worse it is in the real world.

Yeah, the writers got us with this. I may not like it but maybe they wanted Varric to be forever in an unhealthy relationship and will never be completely happy. Maybe we're supposed to feel bad; he's a character we all love but he will forever be stuck in this tragic love story.

 

And you're right. There are plenty of relationships out there that are like Varric and Bianca's. They could have been happy but now are just handing on for the sake of history. 

 

... really, we could have had a varricmance... but instead we have a forever alone Varric... sigh

Maybe, but honestly I never got the impression that she was even interested in him like that anymore. It felt like a one sided infatuation. It was obvious that she moved on, and as Bliss pointed out she still sees him from time to time and is perfectly willing to endanger him when she feels like it. I'm not saying that people should hate Bianca, but can we at least recognize that it's probably a bad thing for him to waste his life pining away after a married woman who seems happy with her husband?

Gotta admit... I can't not be disappointed about it. Varric not being an LI is one thing. Okay, I can accept that even though it's unfortunate, we can't always have what we want and I respect that. But as one of my favorite DA characters, I was at least hoping the reason for it would leave me feeling okay about it instead of even more frustrated. I know it's his choice how to live his life, but now I feel pity for his character way more than I used to.

When I said "It's a sign," I was trying to gently say that it means the relationship shouldn't exist from the start. It's how extramarital affairs work- which this is. It's ridiculous that Varric allows himself to be trapped in such a horrible relationship. If you have to hide your relationship with someone, you should not be in a relationship with that person.

I don't know, she does invite him over to her place while her husband's in Nevarra. I think the implications of inviting the man who's madly in love with you to your house while your husband is in another country are pretty blatant.
