I can't like this enough XD I have a feeling this group will be one most likely to pull pranks on eachother. I was writing a short piece of fan fiction earlier where my Inquisitor tries to cheer Varric up by essentially turning the camp into a giant booby trap for the others. She's going to be an artificer so my head canon is that she used to make non-lethal traps around her estate as a kid and got in trouble for it.

Heya, I was having company over.  They showed up rather late, as in 1am late.  

 

First: The thread apparently got pretty weird while I was gone.  Still entertaining though.  

 

Second: If you guys are ever curious about Edmonton, it's Mountain Standard Time during this time of year.  My home state is in the same time zone.

 

Third: There is actually some love for Varric in the thread in Scuttlebutt.  The OP had the decent taste to change the title.

 

Fourth: Cupcakes aren't sounding like a bad idea to get Mary's attention...

It's now "Is Varric a dwarf only romance" so now it's at least in the form of a question.

 

By the way, I'm really getting sick of that "Varric doesn't like humans" video.  I mean come on.  I hadn't romanced Merrill prior to coming to the forums, so unless I had done some digging, I wouldn't have known about it.  What's more, I never had that option of a flirt come up on my MaleHawke, though others have claimed that they've seen it on both sexes. 

 

So, a line from an easily missed conversation is "proof" that Varric isn't into humans.  Give me a sodding break.

Whew... Alright I just finished cleaning up the fanart OP and now I have a whole extra post currently doing nothing but taking up space...

 

So I have a suggestion. I'm thinking of turning the extra post into a weekly prompt post. Basically I'd put up a weekly prompt (either made by me or suggested by the community), and people can respond to the prompt with something of their own creation. It could be a simple sketch, a gif, a ficlet, anything. I figured it'd be something fun for the thread during slow periods. 

 

What do you guys think? Any other suggestions about what I can do with the extra post?

Me too! Is it just me or are people talking about Varric/LI alot more recently? ( Negative or otherwise ) Maybe it has something to do with this thread picking up more momentum...

Well, I think it's due to a few factors.  For starters, 5 of the LIs have been announced, which has everyone speculating about the rest.  Next, when race-gating was confirmed, the idea of a Varric romance had been kicked around a little bit.  Then, a lot of posters began to comment that there hasn't been a dwarf LI before and Varric wouldn't be a bad choice.

 

Finally, and I think most importantly, we've decided it's time we were open about our love for this character.  A lot of us have a kind of, "Why not?" attitude about talking about a Varricmance at this point.  We figure we've got nothing to lose.  As a result, other posters that would really enjoy having a Varricmance have been popping out of the woodwork.  

 

I think so many of us had been shut down too many times by other posters and had largely begun to give up.  Now, it seems like the general attitude is starting to shift.  I see more and more posters going, "If they are considering/hinting at an Iron Bull romance, then why not Varric?  Oh and having Bianca as the excuse again would be pretty weak."

Your right about that, but I think people are also kinda in a panic too. I mean, we only have three slots left and everyone has a certain character they want to romance. So, you have people trying to claw at the other possible LI's and convince themselves that they have no chance of being chosen. Varric was an afterthought up until this point, I don't think anyone really even considered him actually.

 

So, us being vocal and showing people that Varric has a chance of being an LI too, is adding another obstacle for them.

Hence, the sudden burst of attention and people rushing to disprove it. At least that's my personal thoughts about it...well the negative aspect of the attention were getting I mean. Which isn't that much, like you said more people are opening up to the idea but there are some posters that are fairly adamant that he has "absolutely no chance of being an LI and Varric-mancers are delusional." A few of my friends are among that group unfortunately.

People really wanted to romance Varric for DA2. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be. Instead we were stuck with Anders and Fenris... Broody 1 and Broody 2. Isabela was... Isabela, and Merrill seemed really child-like and odd. I would have LOVED to have a nice, normal guy like Varric to be romantic with. So I'm really hoping that the Bioware team is rethinking their take on Varric, and making him available as an LI this time. Even if it's only for dwarven PCs.
