People really wanted to romance Varric for DA2. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be. Instead we were stuck with Anders and Fenris... Broody 1 and Broody 2. Isabela was... Isabela, and Merrill seemed really child-like and odd. I would have LOVED to have a nice, normal guy like Varric to be romantic with. So I'm really hoping that the Bioware team is rethinking their take on Varric, and making him available as an LI this time. Even if it's only for dwarven PCs.

I'm staying hopeful and wanting to think that they saw their missed opportunity, so they will rectify it now!

Something just occurred to me:

 

Why is the combat so "stylized" (reading the outrageous rumors article) and "flashy," with weapons and armor that have no practical value but look pretty neat in a vdeo game?  Because Varric is telling the story!

 

Did anyone else think that the weapon and combat style was more DAO?  Because I like that little touch of real-world physics and weapons.

I've always thought that was the reason it looked outrageous was because Varric was telling the story.

But I loved the look of archery and mages so far. I can't wait to see the others

Exactly! also, one of my favorite things about the weapons in DAO was how you could see the element of whatever enchantment you used on it as you walked around... like a flaming sword, or electric daggers. I think they're bringing that back and I'm happy about it, lol.

Oh, before I forget..I found this quote from Gaider about Morrigan in DAO:

 

“Trying to figure out what the romance is…sometimes it requires you to sit back and think about the character a slightly different way because you’ve always thought about them [one way]… Morrigan initially was not supposed to be a romance. I had to change the way I thought about her… [I saw her] as her having built up this sort of armor around herself — that there was a different person underneath. One that she purposely had to squelch because she thought that [it] was weak, because that was what she had been taught. Suddenly when I thought about that, it was, ‘Oh, that’s an interesting place to go.’

 

So, just because a character was originally not supposed to be a romance doesn't mean it'll never happen! Morrigan wasn't supposed to be romance either. Suddenly, I'm a bit more hopeful, despite what Gaider's said in the past about Varric. They just might have to look at Varric in a slightly different way to make it work but it can still happen!

I can't like this enough XD I have a feeling this group will be one most likely to pull pranks on eachother. I was writing a short piece of fan fiction earlier where my Inquisitor tries to cheer Varric up by essentially turning the camp into a giant booby trap for the others. She's going to be an artificer so my head canon is that she used to make non-lethal traps around her estate as a kid and got in trouble for it.

Whew... Alright I just finished cleaning up the fanart OP and now I have a whole extra post currently doing nothing but taking up space...

 

So I have a suggestion. I'm thinking of turning the extra post into a weekly prompt post. Basically I'd put up a weekly prompt (either made by me or suggested by the community), and people can respond to the prompt with something of their own creation. It could be a simple sketch, a gif, a ficlet, anything. I figured it'd be something fun for the thread during slow periods. 

 

What do you guys think? Any other suggestions about what I can do with the extra post?

Evening guys! Seems like things got wild after I left.

 

And that Gaider quote is really interesting. Personally, I think that a lot of the romance objections disappear when you stop thinking about him as the bro character. He might have had that role in DA2, but I seriously doubt that will be the case in Inquisition. I mean judging from what we know, he'll be in a bad place. Which is why he will need a nice, friendly inquisitor to hug him tight!

This is the second time I've gone to bed and a gif party has immediately broken out. Clearly this whole "sleep" thing just isn't for me.

 

I kind of wonder if the romance fight has gotten so intense because we have so many options. Eight romances out of ten characters (not counting Leliana and Cole, since they were never a possibility), it must be frustrating to really like a character and then have them be one of the two who could have been a romance but wasn't.

My first post! 

I figured it should be in the Varric thread first as I'm a big fan of our little dwarf. 

 

I've been lurking on the forums for a while, but haven't really had the courage to post    but I'm spending way too much time on here these days to stay silent 

 

Anyway, as to the romance thing:

I've wanted to romance Varric since DA2 (I actually thought he was a romance untill about mid-game  )

 

I hope he's a romance in this game, but I can see why he might not be (also no dev ever commented in this thread is a little worrying). 

 

Honestly with the remaining romances it could go either way. The only one I'm pretty sure is in is IB. But whether they decide to make more male romances than women... at this point I wouldn't be surprised. Though I might be the only one on the forum that actually thinks Varric has a better chance as a LI than Blackwall He just seems like the mentor Wynne/Aveline type to me at this point.
