My first post! 

I figured it should be in the Varric thread first as I'm a big fan of our little dwarf. 

 

I've been lurking on the forums for a while, but haven't really had the courage to post    but I'm spending way too much time on here these days to stay silent 

 

Anyway, as to the romance thing:

I've wanted to romance Varric since DA2 (I actually thought he was a romance untill about mid-game  )

 

I hope he's a romance in this game, but I can see why he might not be (also no dev ever commented in this thread is a little worrying). 

 

Honestly with the remaining romances it could go either way. The only one I'm pretty sure is in is IB. But whether they decide to make more male romances than women... at this point I wouldn't be surprised. Though I might be the only one on the forum that actually thinks Varric has a better chance as a LI than Blackwall He just seems like the mentor Wynne/Aveline type to me at this point.

Blackwall is getting old as far as Grey Wardens go, and I can only see a romance involving him to be complicated and ending sadly... not that it's ever stopped BioWare before, but yeah... I'm hoping they'll change it up and give us some romances with more happiness/hope involved, not every love story needs to be tragic! Varric has his baggage this time around, maybe that will give them enough to write in a good romance arc or him without it being completely sad.

I dunno if the tragedy would stop them necessarily, but... well, he's not really much older than the rest of the cast, but it seems like he puts a lot more focus on his age. It's the flip-side of "age is just a number", if you act like the old uncle of the team, you're probably going to be treated like the old uncle.

I agree. Though it is kind of a tradition to have warden LI at this point right? lol 

As I said, at this point almost nothing would surprise me. After the "8 romances" I think anything could happen

Yeah, and I was thinking of the shortened lifespan of the wardens/the calling -- he's getting really close to that time and well... I just can't see a relationship being anything but a sad ending, on that part. :/ But you're right, tragedy never stops them, lol.

It infuriates me because I'm so supportive of representation for everyone, I have many LGBT gamer friends and it's important to me.  But when a straight guy acknowledges that women in general have had the shitty end of the stick for so long it's like a breath of resh air...  I'm leaving it alone now, it's disheartening sometimes.

It seems it is! And they've all had their 'tragedies' as well so far... Alistair not staying with a non-human pc if you make him king, Anders...well, yeah, no explanation needed. I'm ready to break the cycle, please. xD I loved the news of how many romances, though! Seriously, anything really can happen at this point.

@Ajna Don't worry about the romance thread hun.  Folks are really on edge right now because there is a lot of expectations that they are going to reveal the rest of the romances this weekend.  I really doubt it, but I can understand the misconception.  Don't take it personally; I've done my share in the past of pissing off the forums.  

 

I think also because folks are a little touchy right now, except for the gay men on the forums.  Most of them are still quite happy that Dorian is a gay LI.  It's my favorite thread to go to when I'm feeling down.

 

I'm betting that things will mellow a little once the romances are revealed and the mourning/celebrating is out of the way.

It's one of my favorites. And I love how it's like Arrested Development, you can watch it over and over again and still find new things.

You get the same thing in academics, sometimes. People spend a lot of time developing a pet theory, and they get attached. So when some pokes holes in the theory, they tend to take it personally. I mean, a lot of what we're working with is just guesswork based on scraps of information, but it can be easy to forget that when you've spent a lot of time trying to tie it all together.

I know these forums don't dictate Bioware's marketing, but it must be annoying for the devs only to get romance questions all the time when they've made such a beautiful game.

The Romance thread kinda scares me... Its like some sort of unruly beast. I ventured into one of the earlier incarnations of it and I was kind of overwhelmed.
