So I noticed a lot of Bianca hate in the thread and....I don't know, can someone politely explain it. I mean I thought the whole star crossed lovers/parents try to keep them apart thing was sort of cute, and the fact Varric still holds a candle for this woman after all these years when he could move on is also sort of cute...*please don't hurt me!*
I also didn't mind Bianca as a person. I mean wasn't to fond of her threatening my Inquisitor but at the same time I was like "You tell her Bianca!" to the screen. I don't like that she's married but in a world of marriage proposals equalling family reliances whatcha ya gonna do? Uh yeah that's all.

We won't hurt you! We're nice in here and understand everyone has different opinions haha. I think it's just... lots of us in here find that relationship unhealthy, I guess? And kinda sad... they never get to see eachother, and she gets to be married and have a life, but Varric's just kinda there, hangin', waiting for the next time to see her... *shrugs* :/

About the Bianca thing:

he seemed unhappy, she seemed dismissive, and the whole thing didn't seem healthy. Besides, they're not teenagers being kept apart by their parents. Bianca chose to keep her family happy and keep her status in the Guild instead of leaving with Varric. It's a valid choice, I don't resent her for it, but they should have both moved on. If she seemed broken up about it like Varric does... But she doesn't - she sounds pretty content and flippant about the whole mess, like she would stay like this, with Varric at her beck and call, and she even mocks his way of dealing (stories) and his safety concerns.

I kind of wonder if the Varric/Bianca relationship got killed by its own hype. They make sense together if you assume Varric is happy being single but still has an ongoing casual thing with Bianca. The Inquisitor can ask Varric if they have a relationship, and Varric pretty much responds, "...Kinda." Not really what you'd expect from someone carrying a torch.

 

Of course, prevailing opinion on some parts of the forum has been "You can't break up Varric and Bianca! Their relationship is CRUCIAL!" So that might have skewed our view on things.

I agree the relationship (if there is one right now) seems super unhealthy and most of the relationship seems mostly on Varric's side. I think part of the reason I find this so sad is because I have known people like this IRL.

I guess the relationship isn't the healthiest... but Varric doesn't seem broken about the whole mess. I mean he has close friends, people he cares for, so it's not like his life centers around Bianca. I don't know I was really excited to know the story behind the crossbow and thought it was a clever twist that the Bianca was still alive.
Bianca did seem a bit flippant but at the same time the Inquisitor only meets her briefly. Imagine the kind of personality you get from Isabela after meeting her for such a brief period of time. She could just be the type who keeps her feelings buried.

She wants her cake and to eat it to (I hate this saying, of course you are going to eat your cake). At the same time, Varric's a smart guy. He knows the situation, he chooses to hold on to her, and maybe being in love with her has him spent out on romantic relationships. I mean, you don't need a lover to live a happy and loved life, right?

Anyway, just my thoughts. Nice to meet you Varric thread. I live in the Solas thread but once in a while like to check on Varric, Iron Bull, and Sera (they amuse me). You guys seem very nice too, maybe I'll come over to have tea more often!

Yes, it's not all on her. They both chose to carry on like this. I just find it sad and wish they'd both move on and stay friends. But yeah, it's the cake thing.

 

On one side, I see some friends who refused to let go in Varric, so that colors my perceptions about it. On another, reading the comics made me expect something very different about Bianca and her relationship with Varric, so there's also the element of disappointment.

It wasn't confirmed, but we did get to see her in a kind of fade dream/flashback to when they were together and apparently on the run. Some people thought it meant she had died trying to escape, but later on Varric's writer said we hadn't seen the last of her so we've known she was probably alive for months now. Those scenes just didn't hint at all at her being willing to bow to her family and the Guild and leave Varric, so what we saw in the game was pretty much the only scenario I hadn't imagined as to why they had separated.

Well, Varric-Hawke is the best friendship story in the whole DA series... IMO at least.

 

Does anyone know whether there are any impact on giving Varric the Red Lyrium shards in DA2 (Keep)? On my current PT Hawke didn't give it to him... People told me that Varric will be like a "corrupted" version but I haven't seen any screenshot/video about it..

I'm not quite sure, but I doubt it does haha. I have yet to actually import a file like that myself, and have only heard second hand from people the changes if you do.

Rogue has actually been my staple class since DAO, I just happened to go mage my first time for this game which was a complete first. I'm really enjoying my rogue in my new file though... but I kinda wish I went with something else rather than tempest for my archer. I feel like tempest/archer doesn't go too well together.
