I adore Fiona. Have you read the books? She was kept as this this sex slave by this Orlisian noble how kept her locked up and when she discovered she had magic she killed the bastard and then joined the gray wardens. She was one of the wardens who first in countered the architect and during that journey she fell in live with king Maric. Her blightbwas cured and then she had Alistair and knowing she couldn't raise him so she had to give him up. She never saw Maric again and instead had to go to a circle where she was basically locked up again!

She voted for freedom because her people deserved better. And now she'll never have it!!! I can't do that to her, she deserves so much better ;-;

Well, what she actually meant to do was to seek out the Inquisition. Then Alexius time magicked her and manipulated the rebellion into a frenzy over a templar attack. Her only options there were accepting his deal or dying honorably, I think. My guess is that most of the mages there wouldn't agree with fighting both Alexius and crew and the supposed templar attack. Still, I do think it was weird that they wrote Alexius to look so evil in the beginning of that quest since he's not by the end and it would make a lot more sense to take an alliance with Tevinter if they didn't act really ominous like they do there.

Yeah, I was pretty upset with Fiona but I couldn't really blame the rest of the mages. They really had no choice in the matter. But knowing how muddled the situation was, I suppose she didn't really either. The mages were in a bad or worse kinda deal at that point.

Yeah, the situation as Alexius manipulated them into believing, was pretty hopeless. Many of the mages wanted the alliance, especially before the Tevinters started acting like crap and mentioned new terms of servitude, so I think her refusing the deal wouldn't mean a whole lot. A part of the rebellion would have taken it anyway. The way they did it, we can at least put the blame on her instead of the mages in general.

Fiona is certainly not perfect (only Cole is perfect, my precious little baby!) but i really can't let her life amount to THAT. literally being just one boss battle with NO further explanation. she was desperate in a desperate situation, i really don't like her decision, but i can't damn her for that one thing

I like Ser Barris but I kind of wanted him to be like Fiona and be able to talk to him to find out how the Templars are doing. I like both Fiona and Barris, muahaha!

Okay, so I'm usually okay with creepy scenery. The Deep Roads with all the Darkspawn was gross, but I could deal with it.

But THAT. FREAKING. POEM. I both loved loved and hated that poem, because before then it left it up to the imagination, but the details in that poem just made my skin crawl because I instantly started seeing all of it in my mind. It was so beautifully disturbing.

The time out corner is Varrics fire corner you have to listen to stories of that same cave with Hawke over and over again. "And then we returned to the cave for the third time and there was a giant elven dragon thing in it we'd never noticed before."

Some people in that thread are doing what I feared and trying to say that people against Varric/Bianca are only against her because they wanted him as an LI, which is completely untrue. I'm past him not being an LI. The situation is over and I think I can safely say that most of us are over it. I would have been fine with it if she was dead or they were split up by this point, but Varric still clearly cares for her and I wouldn't complicate the situation by trying to get with him and break them up for selfish reasons.

 

What I dislike is the portrayal of her character and their relationship. They aren't star crossed lovers to me, by any means. Getting to be with your married lover a couple times a year is the least romantic and unhealthiest relationship I could ever think of. And Bianca seems to not really give a crap and also be very impulsive and troublesome. Maybe it was just bad writing, I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt if future content can mend her character in my eyes, but I'm skeptical. And I know Varric is a grown man and can make his own decisions, but a best friend has a job (Hawke) and that includes saying things that may be tough to say or not wanted to hear to people you care about. Maybe the Inquisitor doesn't have a place saying anything, but Hawke does.

Chernaya dear, don't use that argument. There are thoughtless, irresponsible people everywhere. Bianca being a 'bad' person doesn't mean she's a 'bad' character, It's entirely possible that Varric is blind to her flaws, as some people are. How many people stay in abusive relationships?

 

If anything, I think it quite in character for Varric to pine for an illusion. He likes to escape in fantasy to avoid confronting reality and that would explain why he isn't wiling to let go of Bianca. She's inaccessible to him because of circumstances, but his idealized vision of hers gives him something steady and unchanging in a world gone mad. He likes it that way. It allows him to dream and hope. If Bianca suddenly became available to him, he would probably freak out because then he'd have to confront the reality of her flaws. It's safer for him that way.

It wouldn't be unusual for Bioware to talk up/down a character in universe only to find out they're not so great or not so bad in person. They did it with... well, everyone really.
