I think Garrus prefers fighting, but not actual drama. He loves the thrill of a fight, as does Varric enjoy exercising Bianca, but not at the expense of getting caught up in other people's problems. But they both still involve themselves anyway, because they want to help and be a part of the solution and not the problem. That's another comparison I could make between them, both very generous and devoted to helping others.

Yea I was trying to have Cadash be best buddy with a fellow dwarf, but Varric was all like "Back off, bro! You're a freaking messiah, and it's intimidating to think of you as a friend." My Cadash settled with Dorian and Cole anyway, but Varric will always be bro no matter what. He's my third favorite character in the series!
Yeah. I was kinda sad but at the same time I was saying in my head "that's right, you're Hawke's best friend! And that's how it should be." XD But he was still great to the PC, same ol' Varric underneath a little bit of darkness that life lended to him the past decade. I'm amazed he's still sane, haha. Dorian, Cole and Cass were all great best friend material to my Inquisitor anyways. ![]()

Yeah, they are both definitely the "bros", and there's nothing wrong with that. The chillax and nice demeanor, the humorous remarks and supportive nature. And you make a good point on hating drama but always being in the center of it. xD
The fact I didn't romance Garrus made them feel even more similar to me actually, being the companions I have an amazing platonic bond with and feel I can talk to about anything. I felt that way moreso for DA2 Varric, but it's still there a bit in DAI.
I fou d varric to be very un-bro to the inquisitor, even when you friend him.

Yeah, he looks at the Inquisitor as more of a mighty leader which kind of intimidates him. The comparison works much better when I think of DA2 - but he still has some of that supportive and humorous 'down to earth' nature in DAI, with some darker undertones.

Lol I went so far as to make Varric rival with Hawke, but I had to change that, because my Hawke and Varric was best friends. Lol I think he was kind of getting afraid of how much my character wanted to be his friend, but yea I'm happy with the Varric we still have along the journey. He has been around too much crazy to remain a little sane. Funny, I'm traveling with those people right now in Crestwood. I tend to trade Cole and Varric out we each other. Since I've completed everything in Crestwood, Varric will be coming with me in the next area. Dorian and Cassandra(
) are there to stay. Varric banter with everyone is great, so I have to listen to them all!! ![]()

I still disagree. Ignoring his mandatory tour as a soldier, he later becomes a cop and after that a vigilante. Both professions are about intervening and fixing other's problems. People who don't want that don't volunteer for that. Meanwhile Varric only involves himself if it involves him.

Inquisitor: Why did you stay? Cassandra said you were free to go.
"I like to think I'm as selfish and irresponsible as the next guy, but this… thousands of people died on that mountain. I was almost one of them. And now there's a hole in the sky. Even I can't walk away and just leave that to sort itself out." - Varric Tethras.
And on that note, I'm done.

Yeah, and in a way it's likely for the best. He was Hawke's best friend, and even on playthroughs where they are 'rivals' they are still close partners. If he had been too chummy with the inquisitor, it would have been jarring tbh.

Before DAI I would have agreed with that comparison. But I'm not so sure anymore. I don't think Garrus would have been that hard on himself about the red lyrium. He would accept responsibility and do what he could to set things right, but he's better at compartmentalizing stuff like that. He's a total bro, and the husbando of my Shepard, but Garrus is colder and more calculating than Varric. We're talking about the guy who calmly states that he's got respect for the reapers tactics, that he would've considered ruining the genophage cure and who when faced by betrayal just wants to track the guy down, kill the mofo and move on with his life.
Varric's more emotional, for better and worse.

I actually like Jacob. Then again I never romanced him so him cheating on Brynn with Shepard* never happened with me. As long as you don't romance him, he is a good guy.
* I think Shepard is the other woman in this scenario.
Alright, I'll bite: How is Shepard the other woman? Is it because Jacob and Brynn have been together for a few months by the time you meet them?

I'm pretty sure you can't be the other women when you were in a relationship first. With no sort of break up prior to him sleeping with Brynn. So no, Brynn is definitely the other women as far as I'm concerned.

Unless Hanako is implying that Jacob was with Brynne first, then got with Shepard and returned to Brynn later.

Agreed. Brynn even says she knew Jacob was in a relationship with Shepard but she wanted him and went for it anyway.

Wow. Really? Well f**k them they're both a**holes in that case. Could have at least had the decency to tell Shepard, makes me wonder if he was just planning to never contact her again and kind of just drop off her radar forever with no explanation.

Long time no see guys...glad to see everythings so cordial.
Of course Warder would be talking about killing Varric, somehow I am not surprised by this.
So, small rant. I've been replaying through the Mass Effect series. I romanced Kaidan in ME1 which I've done before. I actually really like Kaidan, he's a good guy.
For ME2 I decided to go with Jacob who, again. I actually like. Always seemed like a bro and I've never romanced him before so why not ?
So question......WHO THE HELL WROTE HIS CHARACTER FOR ME3 ?!?! WHY WAS I NOT WARNED ABOUT THIS ?!?!
I mean, who actually thought having him cheat on you was a good idea. Who actually cleared that.....
so stupid.
Anyway, good to see everyone, rant over.
So I feel for you about the Jacob thing... But actually I feel like it was really in his character to move on. He was never serious about Shep. If you try to have a serious conversation about the relationship or his father he breaks up with you.
So when he finds someone he actually loves he goes for it. It's still kinda shitty to put Jacob fans through that buuuut like I said, it's not out of character

Garrus... or Big G, as I always call him. There is no Shepard without Vakarian, defo. Gotta love the pointy eejit. I'd let him win at shooting games every time.
Agreed. Brynn even says she knew Jacob was in a relationship with Shepard but she wanted him and went for it anyway.
That's pretty messed up. Stealing him from SHEPARD? Is she suicidal?

Pretty much. I see it as the two had a relationship, it became distant when Jacob was assigned to Project Lazarus thus couldn't leave the station for a couple years, then ME2 happened, then he got back together with Brynn between the games.

But they weren't in a relationship back then. They knew each other, they were colleagues but they weren't lovers. Brynn pretty much tells Shepard that she stole Shepard's man and that Shepard should just deal with it. Brynn's the other woman.
