Well, hello, lads and ladies! I am back^^ I made myself scarce during the last few weeks, for one thing because Reality decided to kick me in the shins once again (I wonder what problems reality has with me to keep kicking me in the shins^^) and for the other, because my old console croaked out again when I was playing Inquisition... Its simply no fun if you have to keep looking at a clock to make sure you stop after an hour so the system doesn't overheat^^
But now, as I've been gifted the most amazing birthday gift I've had in a long time (A PS4!!! to be delivered in about 2 1/2 weeks *squeal*) I decided to come and see what has been happening here lately. You all have been well I hope?
Regards, CarrionFowl
PS.: The gif is amazing, Qun00! Chesthair FTW!

Was that just some totally random thing or was there stuff mentioned about Varric's past I missed--because I don't think I remember anything about his parents in DAI, and very very little in DA2

Hi there, I'm not a huge huge Varric fan, so I'm going to ask a question that might seem dumb, but I was replaying the mission in the Fade, and I think on Varric's tombstone in his graveyard it says something like (paraphrasing) "doesn't want to be like his parents".

Varric never really talks about his parents, so we can only speculate. Varric tends not to talk about the painful aspects of his life, so this isn't at all surprising and I think it is very much intentional on Bioware's part that they don't reveal anything further regarding that. Some people have suggested in this thread before that his parents might have had a horrible relationship and he doesn't want this to repeat with him and Bianca. If he's afraid of commitment because of this, it would certainly explain why he doesn't bother trying to move on from Bianca and get together with someone else. It could, of course, be something else entirely too, perhaps like certain expectations they have about Varric. Maybe they were very traditional, backwards thinking dwarves? Varric has never been fond of that.

So, question about Varric. In DA2. Each of the characters had strong opinions it seemed about what should be done with anders, and I was wondering if, in light of DAI conversations anyone knows what his stance was. Like, if HE had been in hawke's position and had to make that choice (its obvious he didn't want to be the one to make it, but if) what would he have done, do you think? (not trying to be pro- or anti-, purely curious about Varric, and if he regrets what happened one way or the other)

It's clear that he doesn't approve of Anders actions. If you allow Anders to live then Varric tells the Inquisitor how he doesn't want anything to do with Anders anymore. But I doubt he would have executed Anders, it's not Varric's style. I think he would have spared Anders and told him to gtfo.

More than likely, if Sebastian was present, he would have given him the go-ahead.

Yeah, I feel the same ![]()
We need something fun to discuss. Preferably something not involving Bianca (the dwarf, the crossbow is still cool).

Okay... here's the random thought that just came into my head for no reason (which worries me...)
Varric is (of course) the best man at your Inquisitor's wedding to their LI (assuming Varric still can't be one
) - how good is his speech? And what does he say?
(nope, still don't know why that was the first thought)

The speech is obviously going to be legendary.
For my Trevelyan who romanced Blackwall he'd talk about the importance of trust, second chances and manly hair!
For my Adaar who romanced Sera he'd tell some amusing anecdotes about the happy couple.
For my Trevelyan who romanced Dorian he'd probably say something about the importance of staying true to yourself and moustaches.
For my Cadash who romanced bull he'd probably make a joke about how the Inquisitor's ego needed a lover large enough to handle her.
And he wouldn't say anything at my Lavellan's wedding because she chose poorly and now she's forever alone. ![]()

Heh now I'm trying to picture what Varric may have said about my Lavellan's last husband, probably nothing good
(I have a stupid and probably very unlikely head canon backstory for my Lavellan)

Will Varric marry Bianca?
I think we all know the answer to that one. ![]()

Probably not. It's very clear that Bianca choose safety over love and yet both parties decided to keep up a 15 year affair that doesn't appear to make either of them happy anymore. With any luck Varric will realize he deserves to be happy and move on. I'm just not holding on to any kind of hope that we'll romance him anymore womp womp

But one of the options during the dialogue they're probably referring to results in this response: "You're right, maybe I'm just overthinking all this".

Also in the spirit of "Make your Warden in DAI" I played around and made Beryl Tabris, stabby rouge and Alistair's love.

Well, perhaps I have missed some explanations in game but my interprétation is that she accepted to be married to another guy only because she wanted to protect Varric from the wrath of her family. I suppose that when you do something like that, the sensible thing to do is not to run complaining to your former lover about it but pretend that everything is fine or else he will feel guilty or worse, try something stupid in order to save you. So IMO she never stopped loving Varric but she can't be completely honnest with him about the reasons why she walked away from their relationship.

Well... impossible, yeah?
And Varric's got no time (or not that kind of time anyway!) for my Lady Adaar so.... we're still buddies, but... Sera.
that.
He can totally do a speech at the ceremony, no probs. Which reminds me, I should answer the question I myself set at some point about that, shouldn't I?
