I think it's important to keep in mind that raw red lyrium is quite different than the lyrium idol. Regular raw lyrium doesn't confer any benefits until you process it, at which point you can use it to re-energize mages or imbue weapons and armour with enchantments; I imagine unprocessed red lyrium is much the same.

 

Also, the idol was thousands upon thousands of years old, whereas the red lyrium in Emprise du Lion and elsewhere is fairly new.

 

Fun fact: Iron Bull's response to "Do you ever think about what would happen if the Qunari invaded" varies depending on how early you ask him the question.

Yeah, I was so surprised that the fake spoilers turned out to be false. As heartbreaking as it would have been, at least you'd get some consequences for keeping the lyrium shard. But that's a problem I have with DAI as a whole, there aren't really any bad consequences to be had. I never felt like I could be screwing something up other than the Well of Sorrows choice, but any doubts disappeared after the reveal. I get that we're supposed to fix the world and that messing things up doesn't work with that narrative. But I miss the agony of thinking "I really hope I made the right decision".

Regarding Hawke: I have a feeling that we'll see Hawke again. S/he left us with a cliffhanger, even the death scene was constructed in such a way that they could bring him/her back later.

Oh yeah, did you notice at adamant they never straight up say the person left in the fade will die? I think they dodge it by saying " made the ultimate sacrifice " or something. I think that they might still be alive- but that's me.

And I totally get what your saying, there were times where I thought, this is going to be a big choice! And it wasn't. Like even the little judgments at your throne weren't as consequencal as I was hoping. I killed so many people my first playthrough because I didn't trust them alive. Like really? Even as a jester Florenine still knows politics and how to work people, does anyone really think she wouldn't try something to free herself?

 Only recently played Cole's companion quest and took Varric's side. Wow. Varric handled that like a champ.

But on the other hand I want the character that got picked to stay dead because it would feel like such a lame attempt to extract fan tears if they bring the character back. It would be like if Mordin waltzed up to Shepard before Priority: Earth going "hahahaha you should have seen your face when you thought I died! Here, have a brilliant anti-reaper weapon I developed. No hard feelings, right?" 

 

The judgments were awesome but I agree that it would have been nice to see some consequences. You do get extra war table operations depending on how you judge some people, I liked that!

Oh yeah, I want them to stay dead rather than them come back. especially since we've been talking about how there were very little consequences in DAI.

Kind of curious but did any of you feel Varric was serious when you were expecting him to be funny in Inquisition? Or was that just me?

I may have written sad fanfiction about Hawke's death.  From Varric's POV.  I have never felt so bad about anything in a video game.  Not so much my Hawke dying, but depriving Varric of his best friend when his life wasn't exactly going well.

Was Varric in the party when you did it? I believe you only get the option if he was, as you saw him run off from Adamant in borderline tears earlier in that case.
