Love it and Varric might well be my favourite character in the series but...I happen to agree that he should never be an LI.

That comic is so wonderful. Look how happy Varric is! That's all I wanted. Just happiness for my favorite dwarf ;-;

@Duelist_76 that's cool. We won't sacrifice you to the Chest Hair god ;) some things apparently will never be. But we can still sigh and dream~

Loved the comic! It was pretty much everything I had hoped for before Bioware crushed my Varricmancer dreams.

Aww, that's fine! For what it's worth, I sort of agree. Based on the direction that they wanted to take the character he should stay unromancable. A player romance wouldn't fit his story at all.

I'm okay with him not being a romance option, at the end of the day, but that's because I like sad stories and that's exactly how I played it with Deiniri Cadash. She's had an unrequited infatuation with Varric from day one, and her little heart broke a little after meeting Bianca.

She will never romance anyone else, and she will always care about Varric, but she also respects him too much to ever try to get between him and the one he loves.

I would be so much better with Varric's story if Bianca was dead or something, but the current situation...ugh. Just makes Varric look pathetic.

Just MHO, but it's actually diminished my opinion of him as a character.

Yeah I felt Varric was a little out of character during his interaction of Bianca.

That said if he were an option for an unromanced Hawke, I would finally have a Hawke that didn't love big boats.

From Aimo's Tumblr, if Varric was a romance in an alternate universe.

Just beautiful. Her Varric art is always perfect, but this time, she showed how simple it could have been if they decided to go that direction. Ah well, maybe next time eh?

Yeah. He's still my favorite but after DAI I just wanted to tell him to grow a spine and do something about the Bianca situation. I don't care if he fights for her or dumps her, anything is better than doing nothing.

Oh gawd yes! Varric and Hawke is my OTP :D

If Bioware is smart enough to return to Kirkwall, I want to see Dusana Helmi appear and stir up hell for Varric.

Hawke (paraphrasing here) "so Bianca is between us again, isn't she?"

Why should Bianca get to stomp around like a giant while the rest of us try not to get smushed under her big feet? What's so great about Bianca, huh? Hawke/Inquisitor is just as cute as Bianca, okay? Hawke/Inquisitor is just as smart as Bianca, people totally like Hawke/Inquisitor just as much as they like Bianca, and when did it become okay for one person to be the boss of everybody, huh? Because that's not what DA is about!

We should totally just STAB BIANCA!

Picture:

Commotion is not unheard of in Skyhold with Templars and mages and avvars and Grey Wardens and nobles and and commoners and embassadors constantly entering and leaving the fortress. But today, it is particularly tumultuous because the Hero of Ferelden has arrived.

Varric, his vision osbtructed by all the tall surfacers  forces his way through the crowd, pushing to the front to catch a glimpse of the Hero.

And there he or she is. A mountain of a Warrior, fully armored in the tickest plate he has ever seen, looking capable of ripping an ogre's arms off or an average looking mage, indestinguishable from anyone else in the crowd if not for the rich robes and the undeniable sense of power around him or her or anything else. The Warden is standing besides Leliana or Morrigan or Alistair or holding a sobbing Kieran.

As an idea for a story begins forming in his mind, the Hero turns to him and say:

"Holy ****, you're Varric Tethras."

No way. There is no ****** way. And produces a weathered copy of Hard in Hightown from a backpack.

"Will you sign it, please.?"

Well at this point, the HoF is the only important person in Thedas who hasn't read Hard in Hightown. Why not collect the whole set?!

I think that's because we don't waste our time rehashing old arguments or discussions, or drooling shamelessly over art (as much). There's nothing new to discuss right now. Come back after playing The Descent, maybe? That would be my suggestion *shrug*

Or, y'know, start a discussion instead?

I guess you're right.
I was hoping for someone else to come up with an idea :D
the only thing I could talk about is how much I prefer to talk to him as Hawke (since I started playing DA2 again yesterday) but I guess that's not a new discussion topic

Yeah... he's an Inquisition companion, but he's Hawke's friend.  It's a different dynamic.  That's good in a way, though, because it wouldn't really have seemed right for him to be as pally with the Inquisitor too.  Plus, he'd just be the same in both games then, so it's better that he's a little different the second time around.

Yeah, the dynamic is definitely different. For a long time when playing Inquisition I was sad because "Varric hated me". That's how it felt. "He's mad at everything and he hates me, booo" (that was me talking to a friend).

And he said stuff about things that happened in DA2 that I didn't like, too. I decided to take it as a lie since he insists he lies a lot, but still felt bad about how cold he was XD It felt great when he started to warm up to my Inquisitor.
