Honestly I expecting much more detailed pictures, though still disappointed that I didn't find one of Varric on a Bronto.

Only one of these have anything to do with the kind of mount I was looking for

I bet it was the one with Varric and the male Qunari.

Haha! I'm sure they loved it.  ^_^

Seems that way! :D

@Huldra I tried googling it too but I ended up getting distracted by a lovely Cadash drawing, which led me to an art blog, which led me to tumblr, which led me to some very cute  Quizzy x Varric fanfiction! I'm very happy with this turn of events.

I was watching that Lady Insanity video on Varric, and at the end she posed a question:  What will make Varric stay loyal to the Inquisition?

I'm at a bit of a loss, personally, on what would make join the Inquisition.  From Mary Kirby's interview he seems like he'll be more miserable than ever before.  The Inquisition itself doesn't seem like the same happy-go-lucky bunch of characters that Hawke traveled with.

Only thing I can think of that would get him to leave his home and throw in with Cassandra's lot is if he was promised something he couldn't refuse.  Some information on a certain someone, perhaps.  I just don't see "being part of the story" as enough to get him to endure what he is going to endure.  Not this time.

So, Varric Thread, what is your opinion on his motivations?

I suspect the fact that he's a really good guy will be enough reason for him to join up with the Inquisition. But I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves if the Inquisitor acts like an evil dictator.

For anyone who hasn't watched it, this is Lady Insanity's video on our favorite dwarf.

I agree that it's mostly because he's just a good person. A good person who can pick out good people from not-so-good and tends to be loyal to those people. I suspect that he'll probably make some ties with Leliana with her spy network and they can even pool their resources together. Also, if our quizzies are good enough individuals, he'll stick by you through and through. When I re-watched an older gameplay video Varric objects to just leaving a village to burn in order to save a Inquisition Keep. If our quizzies constantly decide to not care about innocent people suffering in this conflict, he may just leave, thinking that perhaps he can do more good on his own. We've talk about how Varric is a loyal bro to Hawke, but he has no such ties to the Inquisitor and could look at your actions with a less forgiving eye.

ALSO (when they announce him on the LI list) he might just be too in love to leave.

It will also be interesting to see how Varric reacts to the bit of red lyrium. I know most of us wouldn't let Varric anywhere near that thing, but does he go nuts? Lady Insanity even talks about that. I know that I also kept Bartrand alive- sending him to a get help somewhere that I can only imagine is like an old-folks home.Perhaps the Inquisition has something that could help Bartrand or even Varric himself so he might not have a choice to stay. Unless you drive him over the edge and decides to leave in a huff

It's also really cool to see that Lady Insanity also believes that Bianca is dead. I know I've talked about this too, how I think she's dead because 1. it doesn't make sense as to WHY Varric wouldn't be at her side if she was alive and 2. We saw Bianca in Varric's Fade-dream. We know that many, if not all people caught in a Fade dream will dream of lost loves or loved ones in a perfect AU where they are alive and well. Varric sees through this (Much like how Maric did in The Calling) and leaves. He even says "Not as much as I loved you." Past Tense.

OR at least Varric believes wholeheartedly that she's dead. Since DA2 took place about 10 years before DAI we can at least assume that she's be MIA (if not dead) for that same amount of time. That's a long time for a person to just disappear, especially with Varric's network of spies- so yeah. My theory is that she's dead. BUT MAN I'm looking forward to wading through that baggage because I just want Varric to be happy.

TL;DR Summary: Varric's a good man who will probably stick around just to help as many people as he can. He could also just be stuck there because of the effect red lyrium has had on his family. It's really gonna be up to how we forge this new relationship with him to see if he stays or not

I still think Varric joins the Inquisition as a way to seek forgiveness for what he might feel is partially his fault. It was his expedition that brought Red Lyrium into the world. It was he who defended Anders from the Templars only to have him send Kirkwall into chaos and set the stage for the Mage-Templar War. That may be why he cares so much for wanting to defend the innocents, like the village in the PAX demo. He may feel every life taken in this chaos is partially on him, so wants to help end it.

I'm okay with that. I just hope that he isn't going sad about it all the time. I don't like when my dwarves are sad. His chest hair would get all wet.

I've decided that I'm really interested in naming my surfacer-dwarf after a Paragon. Looking on the wiki it seems that, being that I want to be an adorable lady dwarf, I have four choices.

Astyth - founder of the silent (badass) sisters

Branka - cray cray smith extraordinaire

Hrildan - we know nothing, just that she has a statue in the Hall of Heroes

Lantena - we know nothing, just that she has a statue in the Hall of Heroes

maybe I should pick out of the dude names and reclaim it for lady-dwarf kind.

No joke though, there's a Paragon named Seuss. He apparently had excellent rhyming skills... so very tempting

I like Astyth. But that's just me. But yeah, there is no reason you can't take a guy name a reclaim it. Nothing wrong with that! She'll still be adorable.

Lol, I didn't know that! Nice easter egg. But I think reworking a male name would be a great idea! If nothing else it would give you a few more options! Just don't go with Tethra. Tethra Tethras would be a silly name  :P

So, I've come to the conclusion that with family in town and my packing/last minute attempts at language learning for my move, I won't finish my fanfiction for this weeks prompt... I'll get to it, soon, though, so if anyone is interested in elfquisitor/varric lost in the woods chapter and wants to beta it for me, let me know! (I'll post a link to it when it's done for everyone else)

Ah! Looking to the future I see ;)

But you raise a good point. As we've seen with Orta, of the Ortan House, I could easily make one of the masculine names feminine!

I'm giggling a bit at the idea of taking a male dwarf's name to use for your female dwarf. In Elaine Cunningham's D&D novel Silver Shadows, there is a dwarf character named Jill. He was named after his mother, as the name was passed down for generations to male and female alike. There were at least two occasions in the book in which someone mocked or otherwise commented on Jill being a girl's name during a fight, to which the dwarf beat the ever-loving crap out of the individual while shouting, "That was me mother's name!"

Use the name you like best is what I say. ;)

Dwarf Paragonsshould anyone like to know...

Aeducan is the Paragon that led the defenses of Orzammar against the darkspawn when they first poured into the Deep Roads and almost completely destroyed the dwarves. It is said that his election to Paragon had but one dissenting vote; the one who cast that vote was savagely hacked to death by his fellow deshyrs, allowing the election to pass unanimously. He is the founder of House Aeducan.

Astyth the Grey is the first female Paragon of the Warrior caste. She founded the Silent Sisters, and members of that order cut out their tongue in emulation of her. At 1:95 Divine, Astyth became a Paragon when she sacrificed her life for the king.

Bemot is the founder of House Bemot and became a Paragon and king in one move during the Fourth Blight. He was born as a commoner. His statue can be found in the Hall of Heroes.

Branka became a Paragon in 9:10 Dragon and the only to be elected in four generations. She is also the founder and head of House Branka and the wife of Oghren. She's an ill-tempered smith who invented a smokeless coal. She went into the Deep Roads, taking her entire household with her save Ohgren, two years prior to the events of Blight, and has not been heard from since. She is feared dead. Her statue can be found in the Hall of Heroes.

Child Paragon whose deeds and name are unknown, the memorial in Caridin's Cross has been worn away by time or vandalized by darkspawn.

Caridin is the Paragon who created the Anvil of the Void. He originally descended from House Ortan but after his elevation to the Paragon status he created his own house. When he died, the secret of how to make war golems died with him.

Ebryan is a Paragon who wrote the book Songs That Only Nugs Can Hear in 5:84 Exalted.

Erahel is a Paragon who died in Caridin's Cross. He is mentioned on a Road Marker.

Orseck Garal is the Paragon who moved the capital from Kal-Sharok to Orzammar. His statue can be found in the Hall of Heroes.

Garen is a Paragon and a king who lived in the early Exalted Age and whose deeds are unknown. He is responsible for the sending of numerous units of the Legion of the Dead to find his outcast son within the Deep Roads. Furthermore, as a tribute to his son, every member of House Garen assumed the name Tethras.

Gherlen /Gherlon the Blood-Risen was born casteless. However, he ventured to the surface and after he gained enough prestige from his adventures, he returned to Orzammar and became a Paragon and king by overthrowing the previous ruler. His tale is still honored by dwarven adventurers.

Hirol is a Paragon who considered himself outside of the caste system and made several improvements on Caridin's original golem designs. He is also the founder of the noble House Hirol.

Hrildan is another female Paragon who is featured in the Hall of Heroes.

Ilona is a Paragon whose deeds are unknown, but ordered the sealing of Malvernis in the Vimmark Mountains.

Ivo is a Paragon and founder of House Ivo. He must have lived during or before the Blessed Age.

Lantena is another female Paragon who is featured in the Hall of Heroes.

Lynchcar is a Paragon who lived during the Steel Age. His deeds are not known but he is mentioned in a book of poetry.

Moroc the Maul was a legendary warrior, present at the Grey Wardens founding in -305 Ancient (890 TE). His contribution is a key reason there is no loss of caste associated with becoming a Warden.

Ortan is a Paragon and founder of House Ortan who composed a grand epic of the Seven Brothers and the Ortanic Symphony. The Ortan Thaig is named after him. His statue can be found in the Hall of Heroes.

Seuss is a Paragon who lived in the early Glory Age. He apparently had excellent rhyming skills.

Endrin Stonehammer: The second king of Orzammar after Garal and the most famous of the dwarven Paragons.

Tethras is a Paragon whose deeds are unknown, but who descended from the lineage of Paragon Garen. The noble house named in his honor was banished to the surface in 8:98 Blessed for fixing Proving matches.

Varen is the Paragon who discovered that nugs are edible. He was also a former Legionnaire.

Vollney is a Paragon and founder of House Vollney whose deeds are not yet known, but it is known for becoming a Paragon by the narrowest margin in the history of the dwarves; one single vote.

The Warden of dwarven origin will become a Paragon at the end of the Fifth Blight.

Heldane Zadol: A Paragon who lived in Hormak and pioneered the art of folding steel, and whose blades are therefore coveted.

THIS WEEK'S PROMPT

Lost In The Woods

prompted by SecilyL

So this is technically only a portion of my fill for this week's prompt, but there's no way I'll get the others done in time and it serves its purpose of filling the prompt and including Varric. Besides it can kind of stand on its own.

I'll edit this post with the other two portions when I finish them. :P

In the mean time... enjoy.
