This is something I hadn't considered before coming to the forums, but what is the advantage on hosting a fame as opposed to just playing in it?
I have hosted a few times, well a few times where people stayed to get to the end of wave one and beyond.

Everything works better/more crisply on host.. except for combat with Phantoms.

Advantages: No lag, which (aside from the obvious advantages of not lagging) makes projectile weapons and powers such as Biotic Charge much more reliable.

Disadvantages: Phantoms gain damage reduction against you.

Off-host advantages:

- Phantom DR can suck it!

- Missile glitching like a pretend-PRO.

On-host advantages:

- Running with the pizza(can be performed off-host but it's a bit harder. Impossible on consoles when it comes to profession).

- Does not suffer lag--well, to an extreme. It's all your fault if you're lagging, 'cause you're giving other players a hard time.

- Powers respond instantly, or respond better. Biotic Charge for example sucks less...

Off-host disadvantages:

- BULLSH*T!

Someone might give you Memory Leak AIDS faster(PS3 exclusive)

- Teleporting... HAX!

- Lag, and certain powers are sh*t with bad lag.

On-host disadvantages:

- Say hello to Phantom DR! :-)

- No missile glitching for you!

- You're a d*ck if your host sucks!

IIRC, the AI's choice of targets is also affected by hosting. The host is more likely to be targeted if the lag to the other players is really bad.

If you're on pc, the quality of the host player's gaming rig can have a profound affect on the speed of the AI. So if you're pc is faster than the average gamer then the game will feel harder in many ways. And vice versa with an underpowered rig. This is because AI response is linked to frame rate. Search for caratinoid's old threads for details.

Hmm? I can assure you that proficient pizza running is possible, even when the lag is really bad.

I've never heard of this or noticed it firsthand. Would be curious to know if anyone can confirm/deny.

I've never seen an entire run with the pizza at all on consoles. On PC, there's a delay after you're done running. It takes about half a second for the game to make your character stop running, and that's why it is so easy on PC. On consoles, I believe you need a special controller for that. Probably that "fast" button, or whatever it's called, 'cause I haven't seen one since my PS2 days.

Here I am running with the pizza, on host, with a regular PS3 controller. It's a bit different because the ContinueOnRelease variable seems to be set to 0.0f (instead of the 0.25f on PC, kinda weird). Skip to 6:25.

Yes, that's exactly what I do as well. It's a lot easier with non-dodging characters obviously, but making a full run is near impossible unless you have machine gun fingers. :(

I don't believe a full sprint like on PC is possible on consoles, as your character stops sprinting the instant you let go of X/A. Tapping the button again will result in a dodge (or a strange half-stutter on dodgeless kits), no matter how rapidly you do it.

I heard that it is possible on Xbox360. Someone on BSN said they saw someone do it the whole way. Not sure if fps ties into this as well, because PS3 has less frames after awhile.

I have never been able to sprint/dodge with the pizza, nor have I seen anyone who can on the 360.

You don't see it on consoles. The most you see are quick sprints with the pizza, or asari dodge delivery. On PC, it's almost guaranteed that you will see it.

Well here's some other advantages, at least on PS3 -- I host mainly so I can use my best consumables without fear of losing them to:

-- getting stuck "Waiting for Other Players"

-- really bad lag where the whole team wipes quickly

-- noob players in over their heads, with no consumables & little better than an Avenger I (Gold+),  constantly dropping in and out of the game (& constantly needing revives)

For ME4, it'd be good if you were only allowed to host after some tests of your connection.  I think it would also be reasonable to require completion of some challenges before moving up to higher difficulties (for example -- solo silver or something before you can move to gold).  How ridiculous is it that for  a player first starting up multiplayer, the quick search is set to U/U/P ?!

In my experience there are 3 levels of lag affecting Pizza runs.

->somewhat low, where you have to tap about twice as much as you would onHost (which I can't do because I even suck at on host pizza running)

->somewhat high, where you can run around normally with the pizza and only drop it after 20 meters or so (those are great!)

-the strange fubar'd version, where the pizza completely vanishes if you try the standart pizza run (I had a view of those)

It seems that most times the device is still visible for others, just not for the one losing it.

How the hell is that a disadvantage? It's like you're saying that it is a valid and generally accepted playstyle to missile glitch.

It's satire.

No, you're serious about it! And now I finally know how you got all of those N7-points....

I actually wrote Challenge Points at first, but before I decided to post it I changed it to N7-points in honor of my dear missile glitching friend Lakook.

I hate it when I find people during PUGing that are nice and decent to game with until they find out on how to do the missile glitch, and then I stop talking to them and eventually deleted them. This person was the person, and she would encourage my other friends to do it with her.

Stuff is supposed to work as intended onhost. Offhost there are only a few "offhost glitches", that are advantageous, like cooldown overwritting of SS with DC on the ACA. Everything else sucks.

On host you'll top the scoreboard without even trying (unless you suck);

Off host you'll hit the ground if you're not trying to survive.

This is the difference IMO.
