Playing on host is a crutch.

Off host FTW.

Raider can get 3 shot clips off host. Even 4 or 5 if the host's connection is terrible.

I periodically play with a friend, WM Properly Esq on XBox, and we've traded hosting. I'll have to pay closer attention when I am hosting.

Most of the time? Nothing!   :o

I barely notice any difference, even playing with US players (I'm in the UK) - Howdee!

On the rare occasion I do play off host with somebody on the opposite side of the planet with a bad connection (or Eastern Europe, for some reason  ) characters with teleportation powers sometimes start to lag i.e. the power doesn't fire or there's a long pause.  I find the worst is the Havoc, followed by Vanguards, Fury, etc.

But generally in my own personal experience the problem is exaggerated

Basically, on host is good and how it's supposed to be. Off host sucks ass. How much depends on your connection to the host.

^Not only Raider, lots of rapid fire gun seem to "benefit" from the lag, I've experienced 4-5 shot Valiant off-host constantly, all shots' damage registered, sometimes this even applied to Black Widow(as GI or Destroyer because they have fire rate boost).

Raider's inaccuracy puts the Silvair wall of bullets theory to use and gives zero fucks about enemy teleportation.

On host, Ops packs go off (almost) instantly and vanguards suffer from less charge BS. You don't get any power cast delays like you would in a laggy game. priming for explosions works faster. There is also a off host bug with lag on infiltrator TC where if you cast/fire too fast after cloaking, the cloak will not drop and you may get stuck with the full recharge. This does not occur on host.

The only real disadvantages are that on-host phantoms get an insane 90% DR at any stage of their flip animation. This can be countered by hitscan powers like Overload and Dark channel, or with staggering projectile weapons like the GPS, Scorpion, and Acolyte. You also lose the 3 shot raider, 8-12 shot Piranha, 5 shot Valiant, and 4 shot BW

Huh?  You must be lucky then.  I'm in the US, and it seems like almost half my games have some sort of lag lately.  I don't even need to worry about teleportation characters messing up - I have teleporting Krogans.  I had one game where I was using an off-host Graal, and it would take a full second to register impacts at point blank range.

It might be a problem on my end though, because my apartment building just got "updated" hardware for the cable internet that they promised would make everything faster, and it's not really working out.

I kinda agree with you. I almost never host and unless the lag is horrible, I hardly find a difference between on- and off- host. Certain weapons and powers can be annoying to use off-host, and bug out. Thankfully, the number of such powers and weapons are low.

I've played on a lot of cross-continental hosts and very few have made me suffer through out the game. A few lag spikes occur every now and then but that's pretty much it.

Then again, since I exclusively play off-host, I got used to all the lag-induced shenanigans that I can make some modifications to my gameplay to counter it.

An important note to that is most projectile weapons perhaps all (I can't remember so I won't speak in absolutes) ignore enemy DR. GPS, Acolyte, Venom, etc give zero fucks about whether a phantom flips until she's dizzy.

Removing Phantoms on host dr will be the second mod I make (Devices and Targets are going first) if and when I finally get around to upgrading to the PC version.

On host you'll top the scoreboard without even trying (unless you suck);

So mean.... :crying:

The only differences I notice:

No lag related problems and Phantoms are even more obnoxious.

I kinda like phantom DR concept, but I think it's a bit too high, considering how hard they hit and how aggressive they are.

I find their mini M920 Cain more annoying.

I don't think they outright ignore DR. I think they stagger them, and therefore their DR drops.

Phantoms would be fine if the DR was only 40-50%. 90% is too much considering how small their hitbox is.

And considering that you can't headshot them while they bubble if you don't have a shitton of penetration, and, and, and...
