Making some design changes to the bottom half, now it will look less like a catsuit and more like a jacket/trousers combo

Still not there yet, boots and collar to go, plus some more details, but this was too good a shot to pass up.

I take it this would work if we wanted to switch out Ashley's outfit too?

Ash's outfit is unique and so can be swapped out easily, without having to rename anything in the pcc.

Look like comic-book character to me. Some superhero.

If only we could have Ash and Kai pose next to eachother. Maybe I'll have to do a meshmod for Ash's default suit for Femshep, just for this new Kai armor lol. Oh the sexyness.

I'll use gibbed and get them both at the citadel party. I've done it before and a lot of the time they overlap but during the biotic/physical confrontation they stand separately.

Virmire? What's a Virmire?

This has actually been really useful, showing where I need to correct Kaidan's colours. Though I'll hold off 'til he has a spec map.

and just for fun here they are fused into one.

*Nods vigorously* Would love Ash's armor for actual armor not casual wear.

I'm not sure if anybody is still watching this board, but I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue.  I was able to successfully give Kaidan a casual outfit 100% seperate from the crew.  He now has his own folder in texplorer, doesn't requre texmod, and the crew on the normandy remains 100% normal.

However, there seems to be an issue with a shadow/shade/fragment, or something like that.  When far away there's a shell of his old outfit that disappears when you get up close being replaced by the new outfit.  I've played around, and can't seem to find the culprit.  I'm no modding expert, and this was all done via trial and error.  All I've ever done before finding this page a few days ago was editing the coa file to adjust mag/spare ammo sizes.

I could also use some help changing skin tones.  The outfit I'm using for Kaidan was made for Shepard, so is obviously the wrong skin tone.  Any attempts on my part to change it turn out looking sunburned.

Any and all help is much appreciated.

@xcrstfallenstrx: For the outfit messing up, make sure you've changed all three LODs in Meshplorer to the new outfit mesh.  If you don't, it'll turn back to the old one at a distance.  As for his skintone, trial and error is the best way to get it to match.  Outfits intended for Shepard will automatically match to some degree (the weird bluish skintone is what allows that, along with the materials in the pcc) but in my experience it's never close enough.  I usually load up the meshes and diffs for his new outfit and head in 3ds Max and eyeball it as best I can, but you have to alter his spec file too otherwise you get the sunburned look.  The best bet for that is to load up his default spec in Photoshop or the like and match as best you can.

If you'd like some visuals on how it all works, you can download my Kaidan Battle Dress mod off the Nexus and take a look at what I did with the textures and meshes.  :)

Wow.  The LOD thing is so very helpful. Thank you.

In the case of this outfit, the difference is rather extreme to my thinking.  Tan vs pale.  Now that I know I have to alter the spec file, I will give that a shot.  The skintones I tried were almost an exact match to Kaidan's face, so that may be my problem.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I will have to try this out.

I've also downloaded your mod.  Should be very helpful.

LOD thing solved problem A perfectly.  I probably should have examined it further since I asked myself more then once why there was more then 1 LOD in a upk.

Problem B- Spec file was the problem.  I now have a new issue.  For whatever reason, despite the skin color being an exact match, ie- the transition on the back of the neck is seamless, though this may be because of the dogtags in the mesh.  Along the front of the neck there is a seam. Not sure what else to call it.  Anything I can do to encourage blending?

And thank you again for all these wonderful tips.

I believe the seam might be a mesh issue more than a texture one.  I usually fiddle with the diff and spec until it's visually as minimal as possible, then minimize it a bit more by resizing the outfit mesh (Kaidan is a tiny bit taller and broader than Shepard).  But I think the only way to get rid of it completely is to add a bit of the new outfit's chest to his head mesh, like Ashley has for her default tunic.  Unfortunately, I have yet to figure out UV mapping and the like myself, so I'm not the one to ask about such extreme mesh alterations ;)

And you're welcome again! We were all noobs ourselves once, after all! :D

Edit: This is what I'm currently working on, just so you can see how the seam looks after several texture and mesh edits.

Then it looks like this might be as good as I will get it.  I don't think I have the skills/software necessary to tinker around so much.  I think my success thus far has mostly been luck, and some previous sims mesh alterations.  I actually pulled the chest/arms/hands from another mesh that looked very similar to his face in color, and dabbled a bit.  Minor fiddling.  I didn't want it to go too cartoony.  Lots of starting over.  Then I tried messing around with lightening/darkening/saturation, etc.  But it was not an adventure misspent.

Lmao. I'd like to show you my progress, but I can't figure out how to add photos.

I'm batting 1,000 today.

Just getting in there and fiddling with things is the best way to figure all this stuff out, if you ask me.  Though always keep backups, just in case. ;)

For posting pictures, I upload mine to Mediafire and use the forum embed html code they provide to post them.  It's easier for me to just copy/paste the code they give instead of trying to remember what it is each time.

I have nothing productive to add. I'd just like to say that you're a genius, OP! :o I wish I'd found this sooner. This saves me so much trouble whenever I want to have a little fun. Thank you for sharing this! Brilliant.

I've been fiddling with a lot of things since my last post, and my game is *finally* just the way I want it.  I couldn't have done it without all your promeister help.

Thank you!

Well this is what I made for myself:

But you can only have 1 of these items at a time since they are manual replacements, and you would have to replace the texture files in ME3 Explorer.
