Now in hindsight... was the challenge points system a good thing for ME3 MP ?

The Challenges are an good option for players. . I chose not to do them . Any challenges I have done have been completed in the normal course of a game . The Lone Wolf is probably the only exception as I wanted that as my first banner. I used it once or twice.

Some kits I haven't played much at all because I dont really enjoy them and there are quite a few guns that are just frustrating to use.

I just dont have the time or inclination to grind or to use tedious set ups.

As they are not mandatory I dont see much wrong with them and I can't recall ever being "let down" by players equiping kits to complete a challenge .

Without doubt. I know some players who have developped quite an addiction to score challenge points.

I can stop grinding anytime I want, but I choose not to.

It's true! I got tired of the grind here, so I went to Diablo 3. Then when I got tired of the grind there, I came back.

I think it can be done more effectively. I like the system, but it becomes a pain to figure out what to work on next. I would almost like a "suggested to do next" build that actually uses a decent setup that includes using weapons that are part of multiple challenges and suggests ammo and everything for the particular build. I keep everything unknown unknown Gold most of the time (with occasional Platinum, but I just don't care to play that all the time) and I am constantly resetting my characters and switching guns and whatnot. It keeps the game interesting for me other than just unlocking all the weapons at this point. The game would be too easy--even on platinum--if I just used one or two kits all the time with my buddies.

I also like the counter on my N7HQ showing how many times I have completed something. I like to snipe. I am approaching 21 on my sniper challenge. It certainly is a challenge when I have used all of my favorite sniper rifles up and I have to use one or two bad ones to finish the challenge off.

They add something to the game for those who want more. The challenges often answer the question "What do I want to play right now?"

The current CP system we have in place is great. It definitely forced me to move out of my comfort zone along with the added benefit of appreciating weapons I probably would've never even bothered with and it certainly made me a better player as a result. Since I like grinding for cp's I'm constantly rotating through every character/weapon and thus forcing me to change my playstyle (of course, there's always the good little break where I play around with my favourite kits for an extended period).

Good addition and did force me to try kits i never thought I would like. Would love it, however, to be revisited in me4 to be more about skills, rather than simple grinding. It is sad but I have come across folks who do simple grinding on bronze solos, some with the highest points, but fail miserabley on higher difficulties.

Now bow me and accept my dominance

An oxymoron if ever there was one.

I apparently can't.  Every time I go to select a character and weapon, I feel like I need to "make progress" on something.  Which doesn't make any sense since I have every single silver challenge anyway.

Yes. It helped add a bit of direction to the game. It was however a very basic system. The weekend challenges (and community challenges for that matter) were much more interesting than number or waves completed etc and I hope that for ME if there is a similar model they are a bit more interesting.

In other words, you need to give yourself a reason to play this game because playing naturally confuses you. You're lost without direction it would seem.

While it can promote more diversity in what people may choose to run, people can also just use the CP number to judge someone on their ability in the game, and that can be wrong.

Dunno how I feel about it overall.

I find the challenge system good. It made me try new things when I started the game and now it often gives me "reason" to play with different characters and weapons. I like completing stuff rather than just playing for fun... You know score and points matter

If they were going to call them challenge points, then they should have made them more challenging...  The only one that I can think of that is challenging is the plat solo one...

Indeed, and it's not even needed to get the Lone Wolf banner. Apparently the choice of Bioware was to make all the banners accessible for, let's say, the majority of players. I can think about several reasons which have guided this choice, but a few banners for the most involved players would have been appreciable too.

I dig the challenge point system, nudges me to cycle through my class and weapon usage when pugging.

I wouldn't naturally run a vorcha engineer with a scimitar, but damn it was really fun.

I quite like being forced to try kits and weapons I wouldn't normally touch.

I just wish there was a better reward than just a banner.

I think it's up to the player. I myself think I got more diverse and a little more skilled at some aspects of the game. It encourages some to step outside their comfort zone and try new things instead of just a Harrier TGI or Acolyte Flamer Trooper, etc. Whether that's for better or worse is kind of up to you.

Well, yes. But it's not really any different to losing motivation after you max out your manifest....

It's well and good to say that people should play the game for its own sake, but it often helps to have an objective to aim for. That might be grinding challenge points; maxing out the manifest; doing challenge scenarios (whether self-imposed or created by someone else); whatever. The feeling of achievement after completing the objective is the point.

I just knew my name would come up somewhere when you were involved in the discussion. Look at my challenges and tell me that's all I play buddy.

Also, you'll never play at my level because scrubs will be scrubs.

What name is your manifest under? I forgot. I want to see.

And there is a very good reason why I mentioned you as that example. I'll get to it one day. :) But first, let's see that dumdum manifest. :)

Upcoming Challenges are my own personal randomizer. I had to solo wave 10 Geth/Gold/Reactor last night with the Drell Adept/Suppressor. That will certainly improve your game more than coasting along on whatever OP character/weapon combo you're most comfortable with.

It's a very good thing and I'd say has kept the game going longer than it would have otherwise.

I like the challenge points system, it becomes tedious at times though.
One thing I should mention: without the CP system, there would be much much fewer people playing ME3MP IMO.
And I wish they brought the weekend challenges back, just my wish though.

I think that when the challenge points system was introduced, it gave the game a new lick of paint and a fresh approach for players to play the game, encouraging some players to use weapons/kits that they would not have otherwise used which I believe to be a good things as it allowed the game to continue having a decent size player base for a game that is nearing 2-and-a-half years old.
