Now in hindsight... was the challenge points system a good thing for ME3 MP ?

Truthfully, the Challenge Points is one of the primary reasons I've continued to play this game. By attempting challenge completions I've made myself play kits and weapons I probably wouldn't typically play.

I think the challenge system is awesome, though I do wish you got points for the Vanilla humans and the points you accumulate when you finish a sub-challenge don't just stop.

i never really cared for challenge points. i just kept playing like i usually do and just let them build over time. i play biotics more than anything else though and i seem to have completed the biotic mastery around 20 something times without realizing it.

Overall, I like the challenge point system.  It helps people get out of their comfort zone and try new things.  There are definitely certain challenges I didn't enjoy (i.e. N7), but overall it was a success.  I do hope it stays around for ME Next, but it would be nice to see them include something more than a banner for completing them.

You mean Cool Points, right? Yes, the CP was a positive as they made me use kits/guns/powers I would not have used if the challenge system did not exist. The CP system really only punished people who played ME3 from day one, as we had to start from scratch even though we had prior experience with certain kits and N7. I would suggest they add the CP system at the beginning of launch, instead of 6 months later, for ME4.

I would have liked to have individual banners for each challenge instead of banners for only the gold challenges, like a banner for the  getting 200 waves with the Asari or getting a banner of a Geth Prime for completing Geth Prime points 3. I would probably reduce the 200 waves down to 150 waves and have misc challenges like they have in Call of Duty and Battlefield, added in. I also wish they had a challenge for every power and kit.

The CP system, in my opinion, expanded the game and it's not like the challenges are mandatory. You either complete them or you don't. I still haven't completed all silver tier challenges despite my CP ranking. I probably have the most Commando Mastery on BSN, I find it the easiest to complete of the 200 wave challenges.

13 Commando Masteries ! Your love for asari isn't faked   .

I agree of course that challenges aren't mandatory. However, I had the impression several times that some players feel that they "have" to do a challenge. It sounded sometimes more like a job to do than a fun thing to do.

I can't think of any cons to the challenge system as the only noticeable behavior change I notice in players is levelling N7 rank or leaning on a handful of "easy" characters in higher difficulties.

The only time I altered my playstyle for the challenges is when I set out to unlock all the banners and even then I don't think I trashed any matches for the sake of some points. Otherwise, the challenge points are just a lovely reminder of the absurd amount of time spent on this game and tend to be a better indicator of player experience (I see lots of N72000 players with challenge points of around 4,000 or less.

I like it.  It was what forced me to leave the comfort zone of silver, and dip my toe in the scary world of gold and platinum.

If I could change anything with it, it would be to reduce the grabs required for Dog of War.

The challenge system inspired me to try things I didn't like

and while I still don't like most of them, I've learned to like the Warlord against something besides Geth (PPR FTW)

but I still really don't like sniper rifles that aren't Ultra Rare

just as a couple of examples

I wouldn't call the CP system a good thing, but it definitely ain't bad. Like other things, the CP system is a good idea but, unfortunately, poorly executed / implemented.

If you want to create an incentive for players to try and test all the things the game has to offer, make those things worth their while. I get excited about a weapon, power, kit, or combination of those things when I see someone else use it while playing; or hear / read about it on the net / from friends etc.

The banners are nice, but the number of points are more or less meaningless. It would be a lot cooler if it got replaced by a much more subtle reward system that can tell you something about the other players (aka pugs) you meet in-game by looking at their characters. Suppose there is some sort of a Turian Challenge - extract X times with Turian [insert class]; kill 10 enemies successively with a headshot playing a Turian; etc etc - but instead of points you get a fancy set of sunglasses for your Turian characters as a reward.

Turian sunglasses are obviously super cool, but the nice thing is that it will tell you something about the other players as well: A Turian pug with sunglasses is much less likely to dishonor his Legion's military tradition than one without.

And the required melee damage points. 1,000,000.

Yeah.

I think so, yes. Some of them where a little too grindy. But they pushed me to use characters and weapons that i wouldn't have probably used otherwise.

I got a lot more satisfaction from the challenge points than from the N7 points.  It also seems to me a more realistic measure in the lobby of the time people put into the game.  (I find that my challenge points keep going up without my even trying for specific ones, just from playing for a long time.)

It also made me try some stuff I wouldn't have before, although I wouldn't repeat the more tedious ones.

I think CP was an excellent addition. It should be expanded in ME4 and made more deep with things such as light melee kills, 2 for 1 kills, etc. Also, I hope to have stat tracking such as deaths by X enemy or most used gun.

Challenge points? What are challenge points?

They're why Guardians and Husks are the most important mobs in their factions.

Given a choice between Guardians and Phantoms, I'll shoot the Guardian first.

Even something cliché like "Sprayer" would have been better.

I'm a bit late to this topic but BioWare told us they would change the name if we came up with a good enough replacement. We didn't.

I would have liked if they included more skill based challenges than just Lone Wolf. Also I would enjoy silly challenges. Things like, "Be on the wrong end of a sync kill 50 times" or "Earn "x" 10 Waves Survived medals" would be more fun to me than grinding a character for 200 waves.
