Well in the q&a they did mention the KE isn't as tanky as the AW

any classs can wear any armor but you need to meet the requirement for it. if mages want to wear heavy armor there going to have to put point into strength with that i think it will work like arcane warrior to allow mages to wear heavy armor. Dorian is very against his tevinter in thinks there evil i think he be against being a necromancer i think he is a knight enchanter.

No points in strength or anything else. Default armor that you find here and there, will be restricted to classes. We don't know if we might find plate for Mages in game or not through loot, but it makes sense that since Knight Enchanters are rare, you won't see plate for Mages lying around.

But through the crafting system as they said, you can craft whatever type of armor you want, no restrictions. So you can be a Mage in plate, or a Warrior in leather, as they confirmed 1 year ago as well. Provided you have the materials, you can decide the shape and look of the armor, the material involved, stats it will give, armor it will give etc.

Weapons and armor will be class restricted.

Indeed, Knight Enchanters will bypass weapon restrictions through summoning their weapons, and everyone in general can bypass armor restrictions through crafting their own customised armor.

Crafting sounds pretty rad in this game :)

Well in the q&a they did mention the KE isn't as tanky as the AW

They didn't mention anything compared to the AW, the only thing they said, is that you can tank with a Mage or a Rogue even, but if that's your only tank you might have some trouble in the toughest encounters. They also said that if you plan your build well enough, it will work.

I assume the "defensive" buffs of Knight Enchanter might prove useful for that, i also assume that to tank efficiently you might need to opt for heavy armor through crafting. They confirmed that you will be able to have aggro of enemies.

I'm glad Destiny comes out a month before DA:I... This huge infodump was a little overwhelming, but nearly a month of faffing about in Destiny will probably reset my entire preconceptions and knowledge about DA:I.

Overall, I was expecting Knight Enchanter to be more tanky... Sounds like it at least isn't going to be an overkill God-Tier class like Arcane warrior.

I don't think they would ever repeat the mistake of Arcane Warrior. Also this time, you can only choose one specialization, so you can't mix abilities that would prove overwhelming, like with Blood Mage or Spirit Healer, which made you unkillable.

SaazT
Actually they did mention the comparison

"Q: Could you elaborate on the theme and mechanics of the Knight Enchanters? Is there a particular playstyle or party role you envisioned, and is this specialization similar to the Arcane Warrior from DA:O?
A. Yeah, you know what: yes, I can. The Knight Enchanters were designed to let mages get up close and personal and the abilities in that tree encourage you to do so, including the ability to be effective at melee ranges. They're different from Arcane Warriors, though. Less tanky. (ML)"

(i'm SaazT, i just changed my name to what it used to be) :P

Indeed it makes sense, Arcane Warrior was able to tank everyone and himself at the same time :P

From the last info, and from the reveal that companions will have their own specialization based on their unique story, it seems that Vivienne is possibly not a Knight Enchanter. Which makes sense. I could not imagine her "up close and personal".

What else is she going to be, they practically confirmed that every companion is locked to a player spec and there's no other left.

They said the exact opposite, that each companion has a specialization based on their unique story.

Q: Will companions have their own unique specs like in DAII or can you assign them the same specs that players could chose from a la Origins?
A: They have a Spec based upon their unique story.
Consider Cole... (MD)

A spec not necessarily unique spec.

This will need a clarification, since the way Bioware answered, can lead to confusion.

They asked if specs are unique or like in Origins, same as ours.

Bio said they are based on their unique story. But did they answer to them being unique, or on us not being able to choose them, because they are already set?

They didn't answer the question basically, as i see it now.

P.S. This doesn't make Vivienne anything close to a Knight Enchanter, she can look fancy from afar :P

She can look fancy anywhere. She most likely has special Spells to do that.

I am gonna point out that in that E3 demo they released some of the mages they fought towards the beginning used a spell that cloaked them in armor and gave them a sword. I would say start at 3:50 and watch the mage closest to iron bull.

Actually if you look carefully, that's just the mage teleporting away like they showed in previous demos on what mages could do now and that there was a soldier dude with an armor and sword already present that rolled into where the Mage was right when he teleported away.

The dude with the armor and sword is there from the start.

Learning that this won't be a tank specialization actually reignited my interest in making a mage. Just tell me that walking bomb and the pull of the abyss will be in the game and we've got an obvious one man army build.

Also Iron Bull has been shown to be a reaver.

Yeah a Reaver. And a Vanguard, and a Battlemaster. And we know we choose 1 spec. So which one is he?

Then you might have to reconsider on that interest, sincee they said you can tank with it and have aggro. It's just won't be as tanky as Arcane Warrior, which was pretty much God Mode. You are going to be in their face and melee, and you will have spells that allow you to do so.

Also, why would a somewhat tanky Mage spec, in a game where you can even ignore specs, matter on what you want to do?

The specs for warrior are Reaver, Champion and Berserker, Vanguard and Battlemaster are basic trees.

They said, and I'm paraphrasing, with careful planning you can tank with KE, they also said any class can fill any roll with the right investment so that KE can tank figures.

To expand what Schreckstroff said, Vanguard and Battlemaster are non-spec skill trees in DA2. To refresh your memory, Battlemaster has stamina regen and team synergy stuff while Vanguard is the damage boost tree that everybody and his mother took. The specializations for Warrior in DA:I are Champion, Templar, and Reaver.

There are only 3 questions to be asked here regarding specs:
  • Are specializations in that demo finalized?
  • Are all companions given a player specialization like Iron Bull?
  • Are companion specializations identical to player specializations?
The likely answers are yes, yes, and yes. Still, if you want to hold out hope for whatever, knock yourself out. Just know that the evidence suggests that it is unlikely.
