I'm a little confused about where the popularity for such a minor character came from. Also, I hadn't heard she was involved in DA:I at all. Those images reference her... but do we even know if she is a character with whom we can interact?

To me it seemed like the image implied she is working for you. Sadly even if she is I doubt she's too big. But I still love her.
As for why a minor character gets so much love, she's just so enthusiastic about SCIENCE and study and magic how does it work and shes willing to become casteless to follow her dream and she's so adorable.

She's sort of the Neil deGrasse Tyson of the Dragon Age world.

Oh man, that's great! I get the feeling when you find unknown magic resources, she's te one you bring them to so she can test them a few hundred times to find out all they can do.

Sigrun was my fave dwarf NPC but Dagna is a close second. Sincerely hoping that both she and Varric are romance options to keep things balanced!

We shouldn't get our hopes up about her appearing (or being a love interest), since Jennifer Hepler hasn't worked on this game in nearly a year.
The last mention of Dagna in-game was from the Pax demo LAST August. Things might have changed alot in that time.
Don't get me wrong, I really hope Dagna appears and that I can flirt with her (and so on
). However, we need confirmation from someone who is currently working on the game.

Well, that's good news to me. I always loved Dagna in DA:O. She was definitely sweet and adorable that you couldn't help but like her in my opinion. I pretty much always end up doing her quest in DA:O because turning her down is just too hard. lol

It is so funny how this gif explains the mentality of the fans. You have those who are overjoyed, and then you have the ones in the corner making sad faces with their arms crossed.

Since she was in the smith caste she obviously learned smithing. And now she's a magical expert. Is she going to get us access to crazy magical weapons or armor?

The artificer specialization deals with traps. I imagine Dagna makes traps and grenades that the party can use out in the field.

I really want her and Sandal to get together. I has been my dream since DAO. They could make beautiful enchantments together.

Planning dwarf commoner and noble world states for my dwarfquisitor. I wonder how they rationalize her being told to stay put against her being your artificer? Maybe you miss out on her if she's not in the circle? Or she's like Conrad and does what she wants anyway, no matter how many times you talk sense into her? Maybe she becomes self-taught?
I was just rewatching the video of her, she states that the circle would gain valuable knowledge about dwarven lyrium smiting if they took her on as a student, implying that she's already very knowledgeable about the craft. It could be that if Dagna were your artificer, ie chief engineer, that she'd start out with different strength and weaknesses based on where she studies, Orzammar under her father, or the circle. As for her being on the surface, she was bound to go there at some point with her interests. She probably just waited a few more years until she was more capable of handling things on her own.

Kinda hope this is what she looks like now, or at least something similar!
I know, she's so badass in that. She was so young and slightly naive when we met her in Origins, but I can definitely see her growing into quite the high ranking"mage" while studying at the circle. She's sociable and well informed, those things tend to do well for promotions.
If they bring the mechanic back in DA: O where certain characters teach you specializations maybe Dagna could teach us the Artificer specialization. That would be a good reason to include her I would think.
That would be an excellent reason. And if she's also the Inquisition's artificer, she'd be and excellent and easy place to go to start the quest.
I'm a little confused about where the popularity for such a minor character came from. Also, I hadn't heard she was involved in DA:I at all. Those images reference her... but do we even know if she is a character with whom we can interact?
Well... Cullen kinda got the same thing, minor character who left a big impression. Not only is Dagna cute, but she's also a very interesting concept. A dwarf, who's somewhat resistant to magic and completely incapable of casting any spells herself, researching its properties. It'd give her a very unique perspective on things, wouldn't you say?
Also

Yay Dagna!
The artificer specialization deals with traps. I imagine Dagna makes traps and grenades that the party can use out in the field.
I imagine the artificer spec is kind of like Mass Effect's engineer. Most of the time we just say engineer!Shep his combat specific abilities, but engineers are also hinted to be able to create things not meant for combat. Engineer Shep, for example, can fix Omega's air system very quickly, unlike any other class. Dagna could also design/create other useful items/buildings/technologies for the Inquisition that aren't necessarily used for direct combat.

Boom.
Don't give them salamanders.
It is Sela Petrae. If you give them salamanders you're going to have go all over Skyhold to keep them from getting in someone's underwear drawer. If you give them sela petrae you're going to get a **** storm that will never come out of the carpet.

Don't Salamanders also have a tendency to make things go boom in fantasy settings as well? Either way, Dagna is a smith, I'm certain she knows how to handle her chemicals and magical concoctions responsibly. That said, I pity the poor ogre that gets in their way.
