What happens if it turns out we got our "exclusive" and maybe a race gated bi LI and there are 3-4 choices each for heterosexual characters?

This is a situation we've had time after time after time. Most of us are kinda used to it.

Then I imagine all the people being told equal options aren't so important after all are going to laugh in our faces.

There is a difference between straight gamers getting twice as many LIs as gay ones, and straight and gay gamers getting the same amount... but straight gamers not getting the LI they want.

No one actually thinks that queer women are going to get more options than straight men.

To be honest, I think it was a mistake to announce the homosexual LIs well before the heterosexual options. I would be annoyed if they announced the heterosexual options first. They should have brought out bisexual options first, so that everyone felt included, and worked in the gender gated options from there.

I made a thread about this when Cullen and Cass were first announced without their sexualities specified.

Well, if I remember right, Sera's kinda got called out on the spot if I remember right on whatever that cosplay show is. Dorian's sexuality I think is actually an important plot point unlike the others' due to Thedas not caring about sexuality as much. Heck, I figured Dorian was gay before it was revealed, but it was already confirmed for me before I even reached the gay confirmation in the reveiw, and when he talked about arranged marriages in Tevinter.

I made a thread about this when Cullen and Cass were first announced, but their sexualities were not specified.

Gaymer X starts on the 11th. They might be waiting to announce bisexual LIs until then.

I get they get to make big splashy news by announcing same sex orientation but I'd have preferred consistent approach. Either x is li or x is a (insert orientation) li.

There's not a confirmation, but he's an li.

Sera was only big, splashy news on the BSN. Dorian got a bit of coverage.

I don't think anyone is really surprised BioWare is making gay companions though. It's almost expected.

I'll be really disappointed if I can't romance her as a super badass female inquisitor. Even more so if she's human exclusive, but I highly doubt that'll happen. ^o^ I'll deal with anything though, she's worth it.

Their marketing plan seems to be a bit out of control. A few months ago they said we wouldn't know all the companions before released (Follower Friday plans), but now, 3 months before released, we know all of them.

Cullen and Cassandra were announced at PAX in a panel about romance, but they were not talked about beside saying they are LI. It seems to have been a band-aid on Cullen's voice actor talking a bit too much on twitter. The Sera thing was somewhat planned, but they didn't control when the episode was airing. At that point I think announcing Dorian was just a "whatever, they already know about Sera + Gaider being really giddy about being finally able to write a gay companion".

I don't believe that the vast majority of LGBT consumers of video games are just "used to it" and I also don't really think nobody believes gays could get more/better options in this game. I think a lot of people would be pretty crushed right now if it was announced LGB options amounted to half as many as hetero options. I would be. I don't expect that to happen and I think many others really do not expect it either. In the same vein, I don't believe there would even be an argument in this thread if several straight people weren't scared they aren't going to get as many options, or wont have to get their exclusive pushed on an NPC, which most of the LGB players didn't want either, when they thought it could happen to them.

I'm willing to believe that you are more cynical and that you're more experienced with this situation than a lot of people are. Not everyone looking forward to the game has been following the series since before LGB options were even thought of. Most people I know never picked up a Bioware game before Mass Effect. I know a lot of people that bought the games specifically because Bioware has built a reputation as being more friendly towards the LGBT community in more recent years. Are we talking about a younger, maybe dumber crowd? Sure, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I don't doubt the emotions on both sides are often genuine and that there's a lot of confusion about how this is going to play out. I think the arguing over who gets who is just feeding everyone's fears.
