Hey guys, so as the years have passed we have seen images of a pretty serious and deadly looking elf ever since DA2.

CA2.jpg

She has had many various looks, but has had the same sort of aesthetic theme in all of them:

Very edgy, serious, vicious, dark, and scowling.

At one point she even seemed to have some sort of influence in the ideation of Merrill:

I personally LOVE this character's design and was originally really excited to see new concept art that involved her in DAI:

Another image including her can also be seen in this video at time: 1:49,

However, later in development this character who was originally going to be a companion was removed.

My suggestion and feedback for Bioware is this:

This female rogue elf that you have been creating concepts of since DA2 is a highly interesting character design. Although it is too late for this character to make a major appearance in DAI (who knows, maybe they will play a minor role and just not be a companion this time around) PLEASE keep this character in mind for future DA installments. This character's aesthetic design alone has piqued my interest and looks like a deep and unique character. Don't forget about this character! They look like they'd be a valuable edition to the DA universe :]

It was't a character (as in, with a personality), it was just a design for what ultimately became Sera.

I don't really see that as so.

The Iron Bull had concept art back from DA2 as well. So did Dorian I think, although they changed much more drastically in appearance. This character seems too serious and cold to be Sera. Character designs start with a sense of personality and style too. You can't design something without a sense of those two things.

Sir Schumacher (I belive) said so.

That may be, but this wasn't character design. This was an archetype for an overall game style concept. They do that so the purpose of each person in the scene is immediately recognizable. No name, no story, no nothing. Never even built the model, far as I know. She was only in mock-ups. You'll notice the accompanying party were other archetypes: "bad ass knight/warden" and "bad ass qunari/barbarian-looking dude."  And there you have the sum total of their backstories. Truly one for the ages. Kidding aside, they were interesting designs, but there's no context to return to. We could go back to the visual, but everything would still be starting fresh.

No connection between her and Merril (I'm not seeing any carry over there, actually). And no, never the same as Sera. I didn't pitch the Sera character until well after DA2. I believe I once said Sera could have hair like that if they wanted. That's about all they ever considered using. There's offshoots and relative one-offs like this all the time when concepting. The stuff you don't see get's real interesting, but also includes lorebreaking stuff. Pitch meeting stuff, not intended for you guys.

Thanks for clearing this all up, I was really hoping to hear from a dev.

Well here is to hoping that you guys revisit the aesthetic in the future. I really enjoy it.

I personally saw comparisons between her and those Merrill concepts with the greyish-pink skin, shaved hairstyles, and color schemes in the armor.

I put that into the OP of the Sera thread, letting folks know it was about the DA2 female elven archer concept art.

So if anyone starts a thread about this down the road, just point them to the Sera fan thread's OP and this answer will be there.  ;)

offtopic but i really want that shield in first pic in the OP...i like round shield...and i dislike some of the square shields in DA2. The ones i've seen so far  for DAI seem to look good though so yay for shields!

Its actually a dead thread. Sera talk goes to Sera thread. :)   So off topic is best till closed. ;)

I'd love that shield too. Maybe string it up with that flag or person tied up there.

I liked her hair (and hope we get something similar in the CC) but I didn't like the fact that she is wearing bits of heavy metal armor but with exposed cleavage and no pants. I can safely say I'm glad this design didn't make it into the game.

I'm really liking that female elf, too bad she's not an actual character... not enough badass/Jack-esque(ME) females in DA :c

Does it really matter what she was? Everyone I've ever seen talk about her goes on about how they want her as a companion. So wouldn't it at least be worthwhile to try to make a character based on her?

Yeah, she could be some bad ass npc who comes to kill you for example. Perhaps from the crows even lol.

yeah that could work, they could even make her a LI....a true rivalry romance. The Inquisitor can be the only mark she's never been able to kill and she becomes obsessed with him/her..and the face they'll when they die and will at some point save the Inquisitor but only because no one else is allowed to kill them.

A bit cliche but oh well..this is Bioware..

The Merrill connection is because of her robes which are what (or extremely similar to what) Merrill wore in DA2.

No connection between her and Merril (I'm not seeing any carry over there, actually).
