(SPOILER WARNING FOR CITADEL DLC, I guess)

In the Citadel DLC you get to choose whether to save or kill your clone and he was originally grown by Cerberus for the purpose of spare parts. So potentially you've got another healthy Shepard to help patch your Shepard up at the end of the destruction ending (Interpret the "how" as you will, I'm not attempting to spark any moral debates).

I wonder if that was purposely put in there to make Shepards survival in the destruction ending more probable? Or whether it's just coincidence.

I also didn't save the clone, he caused the ruin of everyone's favourite Sushi restaurant.

Clone plummets to death no matter what.

But yes, the Citadel DLC reinforces the idea of Shepard's survival, in other ways.

Not least of which, a lot of people play the party as a postgame victory celebration

Part of it was made to sort of relieve a lot of the bleakness left from the final mission, and it definitely serves to be much more hopeful than previously.

I wish cloneshep had survived, rescued by Aria and smuggled away to Omega to heal and wait out the war. Then she assumes the identity of Alison Gunn and becomes a pirate, uniting the survivors out in the terminus systems into one big gang under her leadership, with Maya Brooks escaping from Alliance jail -- err, assuming you don't shoot her that is -- and joining up with shep Gunn later on.

*ahem* ... just a little head-canon thing.

If you need a mod to make it happen, it doesn't overrule canon.

I modded my game heavily (mesh and texture mods, no story mods). Looks a hell of a lot better, but the plot stays as-is.

For the record, I believe Shepard survives Destroy. We don't need mods to reinforce that notion.

Ditto. Of course, it's iakus, so you know how any conversation with him will be like...

People do it even without mods.  CEM just makes it a lot easier to do

And given Bioware keeps insisting there is no canon for Mass Effect, I say let them have it.

No, I said that mods don't overrule canon. I can't play with mods since I'm on Xbox.

Ah. Like I said, most of the changes are high-res texture mods. Also put Ashley back in a standard-issue uniform, bulked out FemShep a bit and swapped out the cabin music. The story mods out there may be technically impressive, but IMO a saccharine reunion does nothing to alleviate the bigger problems with the ending as-written (which is itself set in stone, canon-wise).

No argument there.

But being able to scoop out the Catalyst does remove the worst of the stupid.

I for one do that. I treat it as the "We beat the reapers by X, time to party hard".

Yeah, it's a shame... But I guess, just the nature of the citadel DLC, it had to be self-contained.

I'll start taking this statement literally as soon as someone points me to a PC who isn't named Shepard, who wasn't made a Spectre, and who didn't choose between Kaidan or Ashley at Virmire. It's obvious that there are clear canon limitations for Mass Effect from the start.

I know when I play the game without playing Citadel, Shepard  survives when I pick destroy and when I play the Citadel dlc, Shepard still survives when I pick destroy.

You know, the whole nega-clone doing Bad Stuffin other parts of the galaxy would kinda make me regret letting her live lol.

As for Brooks, she'd always die, since she's the ringleader of the whole operation.

Deliberate obtuseness. Such a twist.

All the endings are the same except for the color of the explosions on your screen.... you die, the relays explode, and the Normandy crashes. You say "but it's the meaning behind them." Who cares? You're dead. If you chose destroy and your EMS is over 3100 you will get a gasp and you survive.

Yeah I know, but I just keep going back to that, "I'm you without the wear and tear, Shepard. The doubts, the failures. I'm the lone wolf you were always meant to be... without the emotional baggage holding me back" line and seeing an opening.
