Main idea in the shellnut:

In your adventures as an Inquisitor you meet one of your favorite companions from the previous game.
Their actions are detrimental to your goals. There is no middle ground. It ether kill him/her or let him/her do what they wanted to do and fail your mission.

I know that this kind of scenario is unlikely, but what would you do in this kind of situation?
A role-playing dissonance where your actions are fueled by emotions that should not exist in new character.

My Inquisitor will think they had a pretty face and walk away...  :?

It won’t matter to me if they were my favorite companions from DA2 or Origin my inquisitor won’t know them and as such if they are actively trying to stop me for accomplishing an important goal i would most likely end them, though my more benign or cautious inquisitors would try to talk them down first as such an action matches their personality.

So in short no who they were to my past characters wouldn’t matter to my current character in the lest.

I would come on the BSN and whine about how dumb this mission is.

Yeah, I'll let her live.

"Why didn't you fight that blue lady demon with the head tentacles, Inquisitor?"
"She seemed so nice."

Yep. The OP's condition is that it is your fav character from a previous game.

Personally, I plan on heavy roleplaying, so my Inquisitor's would kill them if they were actively screwing the Inquisition over.

That reminds me of the "How come my companion is gone for good if i killed him?! thats not fair!" debacle on swtor.

It depends completely on what they are doing and what the mission was. For instance, lets say my mission is to convince the Couslands of Highever  to support the Inquisition but they are content on all manpower focusing on the continuing rebuild of Ferelden/Highever after the blight/Howe attack. Now, lets say Sten has an army of Qunari about to attack Highever for whatever reason and the Inquisitor can kill Sten to stop it(which would probably convince Highever to side with the Inquisition) or move on to another mission/convincing other factions and people to join you.

As a player i might be interested in seeing Highever attacked by Qunari so i would let it happen even though it was the Inquisitor's mission to get Highever's support.

I know it is a BS example but that popped in my head lol. I guess the quick way to answer is that i wouldn't roleplay or at least not on my first character and instead just do whatever i as the player want to see happen. So if i want Sten to be alive i would fail the mission.

I'll kill them. I usually prefer to let as little meta-game knowledge slip through as possible, and generally go out of my way to make each game's protagonist completely distinct from the last.

Sorry favourite person.

I wouldn't metagame the situation, and I would act according to the current protagonist. If the situation warranted, I would defeat the person who opposed me, or at least try to talk them down. I've always tried to play each character as their own person. I've done this in the past; my apostate helped Renvil Harrowmont escape Kirwall, even though my Surana Warden had a political alliance with King Bhelen.

Is the choice like black & white? Or is there some twist or something we don't know about? Maybe the person is like misguided? There's too many variables right now for me to actually decide.

If it won't be an ultimately crucial mission, I'll let them do as they please. I'd like to roleplay, but I don't think I'll be able to raise my hand on them.

Honestly, I view this as something of a daft scenario. Maybe it's just because of how my playthroughs have affected my various companions, I don't understand how this scenario could even exist, and the few times when it would make sense for that, I don't see how it's a problem.

Morrigan: all signs point to her being an ally, but if she proves an obstacle, I have no issues cutting her down

Leliana: ally of the Inquisition, so it makes no sense for her to oppose me

Alistair: I see no reason for the King of Fereldan to oppose me, at least to any "fail state" level

Zevran: least favourite companion in Origins, so I care not if he gets in my way

Oghren: oh noes, what will I do if a stereotypical drunk dwarf gets in my way?

Shale: unless the fate of the world hinges on the preservation of pigeons, I don't see her getting in my way

Sten: now the Arishok, and an Arishok is an Arishok - get in my way and die

Wynne: non-factor on account of canonical death between games

Loghain: non-factor on account of canonical death via Archdemon slaying

Velanna: non-factor on account of canonical death at the siege of Vigil's Keep

Anders: non-factor on account of canonical death by stabby-stabby after boom-boom

Justice: unless he died alongside Anders, I have no compunctions of putting him down

Sigrun: dead according to epilogue of Awakening, but if alive, don't care either way

Nathaniel: just another random Warden to my Inquisitor

Varric: ally of the Inquisition, so opposition of the Inquisition makes little sense

Fenris: rival during Dragon Age 2, so not fond of him to begin with

Merrill: last seen with Hawke, who is AWOL, so she's likely AWOL too

Aveline: oh hai random guard captain who has no reason to oppose me

Sebastian: why the heck are you opposing me instead reclaiming Starkhaven?

Bethany: would just seem like any other mage to my Inquisitor

Miscellaneous DLC Companions: too minor to care about

I wouldn't kill them, even if it was a somewhat major goal they were opposing.

....I'm too soft to go all superstabbymurderknife on my favorites, tbh.

Now, if they were just someone I kinda liked I'd end them right then and there.

If there is no other option available to my Inquisitor then yes they will kill any friend of the Hero of Ferelden or the Champion of Kirkwall.   And then I will cry into my bowl of cookie dough ice cream while I try drown my pain with alcohol :-(

I fear I will be in this exact situation with Morrigan. I don't want to kill her but if my inquisitor thinks her plans are going to have bad results and she makes it a "work with me or kill me" situation. I hope it's not te case.

Death.

The Inquisitor isn't the Warden or Hawke. I (the player) might mourn that character, but the Inquisitor won't.

Not a probem for me.

In a way, I kind of want to play a character that undos some of the things Hawke or the Warden caused anyways.

I'm especially detached from the Warden though. I played it many times, and in different ways. There's nothing to hold on to really except fondness for the game itself.

That reminds me of the "How come my companion is gone for good if i killed him?! thats not fair!" debacle on swtor.

Oh god, I remember that. Yet they wouldn't let me kill Quinn.  He needed to be punted out the airlock.

Since I'm doing my first run of Inquisition with as little meta-gaming as possible, it would depend upon what killing them would give me in return.  If it was just for a minor side quest, I'd have no problems letting them live.  I'm not a total completionist, so I can let a side quest or two slide.
