I did a combined tally of the results posted by Computron2000, Silvershroud and myself. All in all 1121 picks. Not much changes, Juggy took the lead from the TGI (compared to my results). Nice compilation.

Things that make me happy:

1. More sabo sightings than GE or QME

2. More shadow and SI sightings than GI

3. A good number of collector adept, tsol sightings

Things that make me cry:

1. zero justicar sightings, and phoenix being some of the least played characters (this one makes me want to commit sudoku)

2. More volguard sightings than drell (ewwww), and drellguard being the least played vanguard

3. DI being the least played infiltrator

1. zero justicar sightings,

Should have made it clear in the previous post but this could be an artefact. The problem is that it is not possible to tell apart the vanilla asari adept from the justicar based on the lobby screenshot, as for both it writes "asari adept". So basically the justicar sightings are tallied up as vanilla asari adept.

^ I see. That makes sense because I see a few justicars every now and then.

Is something similar going on with the Phoenix Adepts/Vanguards and the Human Adepts/Vanguards?

You could make a distinction based on their powers if you recorded the information from the squad screen in the lobby.

I'm tempted to start recording information now, too, as I'm certain I see more Justicars and Phoenix characters than Asari Adepts and vanilla classes (on gold), but have no data to fall back on.

Reminds me, I need to send you what data I have so far.

There's not a whole lot I could do with it at the moment, as it's not the final version.

As a fan of the justicar this made me sad as well. Not enough to do number puzzles, but sad all the same.

Nice work Lional ! 1121 results is quite a good sample size. Now the only possible bias for a study about the choice of characters used is that the sample is based on PUG games (do players use different kits when they PUG and when they play with friends ?).

About the results, I'm still surprised to see the Destroyer so high in the ranking (I haven't the impression to meet so many of them on PS3), but I'm happy to see the human adept so high. Volus are, without surprise, the least used race.

Oh god, the shameful shift into "weapons we used during single player"

I used the Raptor for the entire game because it was the closest thing to the ME2 Viper

Off-topic, but I also loved the Viper in ME2.  I actually used the Viper in my ME3 Engineer playthrough.  It worked really, really well with the time dilation, you could just Overload and then immediately headshot for a OSK.  And it had minimal effect on cooldown.

And yes, playing MP makes it so you can easily dominate SP with an engineer wielding the Viper and Tempest combo the whole game.

2nd Place: Geth Plasma SMG (10 sightings)

You know what, now that I think of it, I have seen a decent number of people using the GPSMG lately.  Almost every single instance I have seen, the gun was being used poorly.  I remember a few poorly-played Juggs using it, a Slash-spamming Slayer who maybe charged and fired Phase Disruptor a combined total of 6 times the entire match (from what I saw), a SS and Slash spamming Shadow, and I think a Geth Engineer, and this is probably all within the last 15 games I have played.  I'm also pretty sure that every single time I saw it, the player had equipped the Power Amp mod.

Oh thank god someone else plays the Justicar! I was beginning to think I was the only one around these BSN parts that used her, because I've seen her used maybe four times in the past five months of play.

The Justicar gets no love.

Her bubble practically offers points on a platter, Reave can both prime and detonate, and Pull saves teammates from mooks. She's like, a walking primer/detonator.

I... I don't understand.

She's quite a popular kit amoungst BSNers.... just not with pugs apparently.

She's off my extinct list though. I think I've seen 2 or 3 now.

She's my go-to character.  I'd say she's one of the kits that's a lot more popular among BSNers than pugs.

I feel so gracious when I cast her bubble over some camping sniper even though I spec it for offence.

The AJ is  of the most fun kits to play but good timing is critical if you are playing aggressively with the Reave bubble combo.

A game with 2 AJs is rare in pugs

Hmm, I don't think I've ever done that.  Though I do tend to drop it over devices.

Okay, so I received Limbs' data (and a few matches that Pint asked her to record), so I counted out characters and threw this list together. I don't know if Pint recorded additional data on his own, so this may not be the final version, but it's what I have so far. First off, I recorded 73 lobbies since last Thursday (...or Friday, not 100%), Limbs got 41 games, and she recorded 6 of Pint's, bringing us to a nice even total of 120. We had each planned to play more than this, but it didn't quite work out, for a number of reasons. In addition to that, cato sent me an additional 20 lobbies worth of characters, bringing us up to 140 total lobbies observed.

Note: Just because we recorded a lobby's kits does not mean we actually played in it. I personally left every lobby that had preset both map and enemy (or Collectors), and I believe Limbs did something similar.

Microphone usage
Although Limbs and I never plugged our mics in while pugging, we did record the number of pugs who had theirs connected. Combined, we ran into 87 people who did, and of those, 50 of them were actively using them (or a 57.5% talking rate). Of the six games I have from Pint, he did not record microphone data, but to be fair, neither Limbs nor I told each other that we had been doing it until last night :P
Onwards to what everyone wants to see.

Kit usage
Taking first place by a landslide, we have the trusty Geth Juggernaut, with 53 sightings. While this was definitely expected, it's margin of victory was quite surprising.

Charging his way into second place, the N7 Slayer was spotted 19 times. Never would we have thought that a vanguard would beat out the likes of a TGI or an AIU.

In third place, we have a tie between the AIU, and the Shadow, 17 sightings each. Again, this was surprising in a few ways. One, of all the "non-crutch" infiltrators, the Shadow is one of the last we expected to see in the top three; and two, the TGI is nowhere to be seen. We also expected the AIU to be seen more than it was.

Occupying fourth place, we have the N7 Destroyer, 15 sightings. Sadly, most of the Destroyers that I personally ran into were equipped with either Strikers or Adases (Adi?), but my colleagues didn't share this trend.

Fifth place is a three-way tie between the N7 Fury, N7 Paladin, and the Cabal, 14 sightings each. The Fury's top-five finish is no surprise, although the Cabal was a bit unexpected. The Paladin ranked as expected

For sixth place, we have the average pug workhorse known as the Geth Trooper, at 13 sightings. We expected it to rank higher, but here we are.

In seventh place is the Collector Adept, 12 sightings. This one was also a bit surprising, given the wonkiness of his powers off-host, and the average pug will struggle to balance power use in an effective manner, but there's still plenty of these sentient cockroaches running around.

Eighth place is a tie between the TGI and N7 Demolisher, at 11 sightings each. We expected so much more from the Turian Ghost, but are pleasantly surprised to see him near the bottom of the ladder. The Demolisher did slightly better than expected, but not much.

Solidly taking up ninth place (and 90% of your screen) is the Krogan Warlord, 10 sightings. He's large and in charge, but according to the pugs we observed, it's definitely not Hammer Time.

Tenth place is packed to the gills, housing the Geth Infiltrator, Justicar, Vanilla Soldier, Asari Vanguard, Turian Sentinel, and Krogan Vanguard, all at 9 sightings. We're glad that some Asari made the cut, but expected classes like the GI and Turian Sentinel to place higher than they did.

The rest

8 sightings: Krosent, Talon Merc, Asari Adept, Vorcha Soldier, Turian Havoc, Vorcha Sentinel.

7 sightings: Vanilla Human Engineer, Vanilla Human Soldier, Drell Infiltrator, Salarian Infiltrator, Asari Huntress

6 sightings: Salarian Engineer, BF3 Soldier, Drell Adept

5 sightings: QFI, QFE, Smashdept, Salarian Infiltrator, Vanilla Sentinel, Vanilla Infiltrator, QMI, Krogan Soldier,

4 sightings: Vorcha Hunter, Smashguard, QME, Geth Engineer, Batarian Vanguard, Vanilla Adept, Batarian Sentinel, Vanilla Vanguard

3 sightings: Batarian Soldier, Volus Engineer, Batarian Adept

2 sightings: Turian Soldier, Asari Valkyrie, Turian Saboteur*, Drell Vanguard,

1 sighting: Krogan Shaman

Extinct: Volus Adept, Quarian Marksman, Volus Mercenary, Volus Protector

* Recorded twice in Pint's games, but as it was using the same weapon in each match, I erred on the side of caution and threw one away in case it was the same player both times.

A list of weapons and a few extra statistics will come in the next couple days, as it's fairly late here (and if I do any more typing, I'm going to give myself Carpal tunnel syndrome). Like I said in the opening paragraph, Pint may be sitting on more data, so there is a possibility that this is not the final version. It's just what I was able to get tonight.

Edit: Big thanks to cato for passing me data that completely changed the playing field, bumping a large number of classes out of the top ten, and bringing the Krogan Shaman back from extinction. Any other PS3 players wishing to contribute data from Gold matches can PM me for more information.

I saw three Pirahna GI users. A bit scrubby at it though since they used High Caliber barrel and used AP rounds to compensate for piercing. Warp Ammo all the way ONLY!

Awesome stuff Pearl, Pint and Limbs.

Hopefully I'll update my list later today. The way it's shaping up it looks like it'll be similar to the PS3 list.
