I think I'm done with this thread. Too many distasteful generalities for my liking. Enjoy the conversation.
What do you mean by "distasteful generalities"?
This was your post from the top of the page, an hour ago:
How is it important that the straight male is an NPC, if you still get other options? There's at least one more man available for female Inquisitors, and probably more than one.
I don't think Cullen is even meant to be the lead character, and why would a lead character - if they had one - be straight?
Right, when I saw that Cullen would be the first revealed f/m romance (this was prior to yesterday's reveal) I was like "typical".
I didn't say Non Player Character, I said "non companion", first of all. Meaning, it's nice to take your paramour on the road with you, isn't it? How much cameraderie will you have when you only see him every few months? I don't see where I said he was meant to be the lead character. How could he be when he's not the Inquisitor.
As for the rest of that...I think the lead should be written as gay or straight because it's the player character. The lead is whatever and whoever you are.
I will say once more that I think when you look at the 3 non companions, one of which is a straight male (Cullen) and a bisexual female (Josephine) that leaves men with more companion romance options. That is just math.
Bisexual, straight, or lesbian is superfluous to companion versus stationary love interest you leave behind.
I also said that it would be nice if they are also writing for straight females to query straight females before designing love interests. I don't play fantasy games for real life scenarios. It's an escape from work and, yes, sometimes my boyfriend.
In romantic movies you don't typically put a guy who looks like Steve Buscemi in a role where he's the love interest. So, no, I'm not that impressed with a bald elf or a one eyed minotaur.
IF they had drawn him like the Arishok, which they didn't, where he was conventionally attractive, had hair, had two eyes, etc. Then I'd be more enthused. I am putting out my personl preference for people (men and women) with hair.
Why is that a problem for you? Isn't this a feedback forum?
I am not allowed to say that as a female I like hair on romanceable subjects?
Seriously why is this a huge problem (and it seems to have been based on reactions to the original post) to state what we like and what we know our friends who play to also like. This should be where we put it, right?

Thanks.
Thank you OP ![]()
But honestly hopefully another male LI is revealed and it's Solas. :3
Its funny because you said they were obviously a gay couple, yet I play DAO at least 9 times and I figured out they were gay only last month XD Could you please explaine what was so "gay" in their behavior?
Erm the mannerisms, the accent it was all very very camp to put it slightly diplomatically they were like a very medieval Graham Norton/Dale Winton lol
Lets assume that he is equal or even better then the companion romance. Don't you think that gay guys should to have access to this tip of romance as well? Everybody else does...
LMAO Sorry, sorry... tip.
Man that just reminds me I got in some arguement with an idiot that said I should tip 50% on a cheap meal cause otherwise I'm a douche like that makes sense. ![]()

Straight female here:
1) I love Cullen, the only downside to his romance that I see if not being able to take him everywhere with me. But I'm gonna look on the bright-side and say that just opens up a spot in my party, so I can experience more awesome companions.
2) Iron Bull - in DA:O I had fun sleeping with Zevran before going with Alistair for the long run, and I could see that happening with Iron Bull too. And who knows, maybe he'll be cool enough to make me just wanna stick with him. Trying my best not to judge him, based on the little I've seen of him so far. But I definately think he'll be a fun romance for at least one of my playthroughs.
3) Solas or Blackwall - our 3rd option could be either of them. One has too little hair, the other too much. So everyone who loves one will probably hate the other. I personally would prefer Solas, but I'm not holding my breath at this point.
4) Varric - could possibly be the last romance option, and possibly race-gated to dwarves. I think he's a good option, but I won't be a female dwarf in my first playthrough, so it wouldn't work out. But He would encourage me to make a female dwarf in a later playthrough, something I would otherwise never do, so I guess that's good.
5) If for some reason I decide I need my LI to be with me at all times, I can't stand Iron Bull, Solas is unavailable, and I'm not a dwarf....I'll just romance Sera. Cos even tho I'm straight in real life, I don't have any problem romancing a girl in a video game. And she seems pretty cool.
While I tend to always bring my LI with me in my games, because... BANTER. I am not disappointed by Cullen being an adviser because 1) better that than nothing at all and 2) from trailers and comments from the devs it does not appear like the non-companion romances as Romance Lite and have just as much content as the others... also... trailers clearly show Leliana and Cullen wandering around with the Inquisitor so again... I don't think these guys are going to be Traynor and Cortez 2.0.
I was getting my kicks from the use of the word "tip" in conjunction with a M/M romance... I've got my mind in the gutter apparently.

Maybe companions will banter on your non present LI none the less

Wow, rood

I hope so.

Very
But yes hopefully the companions will nag the Quizzy about their advisor LI. Maybe your interjections can be encouraging it or telling them to knock it off.

Yees. I so want qunari inquisitor to shut it down hard :3
I think the problem people are having witg your posts is that you aren't just swing what you want - you are accusing chips are for ignoring all straight females and ignoring what straight females like because they haven't provided options you like.
It's majoring Bioware, saying they are ignoring their fans, and it's dismissing straight females who are happy with the options they have been provided so far.
Give your feedback, by all means. But stop using the "Bioware is silly for ignoring 50+% of the planet" when your tastes and feedback does not necessarily represent that 50%.
I don't think people should be having problems with my posts because this is a feedback forum, honestly. I'm writing to Bioware on a vent/rant.
However, since I now have to defend a rant and be perfect in the execution of that defense, so be it.
When people say that the gay male community was ignored are they generalizing or being truthful? A devil's advocate could say that gay men at least got to play men, whereas lesbians and straight women were forced many times to play men. They could say then that this is a generalizing statement that's not entirely true. Not entirely true, is still or still has truth. It is, however, mostly true that gay men were ignored.
So it is mostly true, that women have had to play with scraps in the vast multitude of online gaming.
As far as tastes and preferences, you need only look to Varric's pages and Cullen's to see what people enjoy. Look how long those threads are in the forum compared to Solas.
If women's tastes ran to middle aged bald men or one eyed minotaurs Hollywood would have already appropriated those types into their romances and leading men characters. They do far more market awareness campaigns to find the right type and that type has yet to be people with one eye and no hair.
Now, will there be women who like bald men--yes! There are women like me who die for beards, but are we most women? Probably not.
You would be hard pressed to find someone who said that the guy who played Superman was a troll or that Chris Hemsworth was a dog. Just won't happen. Beauty is subjective to an extent, whereas attractiveness is far more subjective. Peter Dinklage is a dwarf who is attractive.
Here is the thing that I don't understand. If I am posting in feedback, if I am saying that I'm "having a rant", if I am communicating to Bioware...what's the issue and why should I have to speak precisely and equivocate and clarify everything? Won't Bioware understand that there are all types and I'm just a more vocal one?
The OP started this thread talking about what women want. Did she generalize? Yes, but guess what? This woman agrees. My girlfriends agree. We loved Varric and no one gave two craps about making him a LI. We loved the Arishok. Look at the deviant art to see that women loved these guys.
One guy was talking on a thread and said "look at gay porn for types of guys that gay men like", was he generalizing? Or maybe gay porn exists and did market research before selecting "actors"?
I speak in generalities, but so what? Is there some rule that we're not allowed to? Must I constantly write most women or some women when talking about gaming? I'm not speaking of political discussions where the specifics and the inclusion of individual opinions is of paramount important.
I'm talking about hot guys. That's it.

If you publicly announce your opinion obviously some people will object it.

I don't have a problem with people objecting to it, obviously because I'm responding. What I'm curious about, if that's the right word, are the non straight females that have an opinion on the feedback straight females are providing to Bioware.
What does it matter?
From the break the OP's complaint was met with: You have options you just don't like them.
Ok.
Right, she's saying she doesn't like them. That's called "Feedback". That's why she posted it in "Feedback".
Guess what? I agree with her. I don't like the fact that Cullen is a non-companion. I don't like the fact that males are better represented in the companion party when it comes to LIs.
I agree with her. I'm letting Bioware know that I agree with her. I thought our options in ME sucked. I agree with that, too. Arguing with people's feedback is like telling someone that they have no right to not like something on the menu of a restaurant.

Because you may be unaware of this:
The Solas thread reached 300+ pages (It may have been 200+ but I believe it was 300+) based on speculation alone, when the OP declared he wasn't that interested in the character anymore. A new thread was made, and it has just reached 200 pages (and then moved onward from that).
Cullen thread is longer, yes, and always was. Solas thread was and remains the close second. That means there are 500+ pages of Solas thread. Despite your personal biases and preferences, Solas is actually very popular. I don't think he's the most attractive male companion (I'd say that is Cullen), but out of all of the men, he's the one I would most want to romance, so I am personally hoping he's available.
I do not personally find Iron Bull or Blackwall attractive, but Iron Bull IS an LI and Blackwall very well could be--and he certainly has plenty of fans. Iron Bull has many fans, and many of them are women.
Personally I don't care how hot Cullen is, because I remember his attitude toward mages (my favored class) in DA2. Most likely I will remember that distaste for him and will not pursue his romance unless he's absolutely stellar--especially since he is not a companion and I won't get the happy feels of having my LI wander around with me and banter with the other companions if I do pursue him.
As for middle-aged characters... well, the average gamer is now 30+-ish. Not everyone is against having LIs in their 40s. In real life I prefer men a bit younger, but it's a game and I'd be perfectly fine romancing a man in his 40s. In fact I think it might be preferable to having another Alistair--much as I liked Alistair when DAO came out.
That's just my two cents. You are free to share yours, but please stop trying to speak for the preferences of all or most women. I'm a straight woman and I don't agree with a lot of what you said - preferences are far, far more varied than your opinions suggest.
It seems strange to bring up every other game with a male protagonist in a rant about DA which has always allowed you to play as female. I also don't think we need to find out who the bigger victims are- is it women? Is it gay men? We should probably fight about it and the loser wins. We know very little about any of these characters save Varric (who is great). I thought Traynor and Cortez were great in ME3. The dialogue having an LI with you on quests in previous games was only different if you clicked on them and they'd call you a pet name. I don't see what the big deal is. Bioware does not hate women and is not trying to foist women on their creepy cousin. They obviously love their characters and want us to, maybe we should give them a chance before we declare ourselves hated by the world.
