In all seriousness I recognize that there are people like bald and find bald attractive--and if they're females who want a companion male romance they better!

But a lot of women like hair, and men too.  Hence all the Hair Club For Men stuff.

As I am not interested in Cullen as a possible romantic suitor for my FemQuisitors, am hoping the remaining option is as charming as was Alistair and the rose. Generally prefer the inexperienced to rakes as a rule.

I get the feeling that Cullen is soppose to be the Alister like romance, but I might be wrong. I hope that you'll find a romance that suits your tast, wether it's like Alister or something else : )

I am saying that people who pretend there are no standards of beauty are being dishonest.   Not 1 in 100 would given the choice of who to have sex with would pick Rush Limbaugh over Kit Harrington.

Considering the preceding discussion, you are also indirectly comparing Solas to Rush Limbaugh, and I'm baffled by the vehement disgust to bald men in general, but this thread is hardly the only place I've seen that sentiment.

I just hope that a female character can romance a well learned male and isn't an emotional wreck. Anders would have really been great for my Hawke if he was more the awakening Anders then the DA2 one. It disappointed me in the old republic when my Sith Inquisitor could only flirt with her archeologist companion instead of romance him. She would have been good to him, assuming the option was there, unlike how she was to some. But really when you mouth off to a sith/mage aren't you just asking to be hit with lightning?

Nope, I picked a guy I know that no gay men would want to bed to make a point about beauty standards.  :D  I was trying to be humorous but this is online, so...

My point is that we don't always need to be so hyper-sensitive about casual remarks when we speak to our gender.  I would bet you couldn't find one female in a thousand that likes having her period.

Should I refrain from saying women hate their periods?

I'm not gay, but I feel I can still comment on another man's physical appearance. I think Solas is a pretty decent looking guy, but someone like Cullen is certainly more conventionally attractive. I just don't think hair has much to do with it.

To quote spongebob, shaved is a haircut.

Pointy ears, nose, squinty eyes, angular features AND a bald head is nosferatu territory.

Thanks. In my case, the romantic tales are way past secondary. But in the case of Alistair, I had read so many positive comments by the time I was willing to run solo sessions that I chose a human FemWarden to see for myself.

So just a question, you've never said to your ohhhh, say mother, "Mom, men don't want to be fussed with!"

Not all generalizations are super cereal.  Do I think I am queen empress of all things female and have supreme authority to speak for women?  No.

But If I say something like "Women hate their periods" I'm not lying.  I'm generalizing, but I'm telling the truth.  Find me a woman that likes her period and I'll find you someone who has a mental issue.

If I say that women like good looking guys, I'm probably correct.  I doubt very many women would say "I actually love ugly guys with beer guts".  There may be some, but most don't.

I'm not trying to write laws here, just talk about what I talk about with my friends.  I'm in a local RPG and (I confess) LARP group and the women there feel the same about a lot of things.

Like Ragnar Lothbrook, very few of us would kick him or Han Solo out of bed.

Well, I'm not going to go take a survey on menstruation, so you've got me there. I could find you an easy dozen women on this forum that think any given companion is attractive, though. Multiple women have told you in this thread that they like the appearance of Iron Bull or Solas and that they want those romance options. I don't think Iron Bull is attractive and I know several other gay guys that don't think Iron Bull is attractive. But, you know what? I know there are gay guys that do think he's attractive, also. The situation is exactly the same with straight women. The evidence is right here, you're just ignoring it.

I'd take Solas over the Iron Bull, Care Bear :D

Also, I am getting a HUGE kick out of the fact that someone with a Care Bear avatar is being so judgmental about appearances LOL

I've already said that I acknowledge some will like him.  My point was that I don't think saying "women like" (when you're a woman) is a horrific crime.  Not all generalizations are "evil".

If everyone had extremely different tastes you wouldn't have models, Hollywood "stars", etc.  There's a reason why people would say in the 90's "He's no Brad Pitt!"  Because Brad Pitt in Fight Club was a fairly good standard of attractiveness.

Did everyone LOVE him?  No.  I prefer dark hair on men, but I'll say he's a good standard of attractiveness.

If I had said Rush Limbaugh's pretty ugly very few people would say "I disagree".

I would like Solas as an LI he seems the best option for my elf mage. I would have rather he didn't look like Nosferatu, but you take what you can get XD

He does look so much like Nosferatu though XD

The problem is that beauty standards aren't as narrow as you're making them. For example, Solas's thread has been one of the most prolific consistently and he has a huge female following hoping and praying for him to become an LI. There's actually a lot of interest in romancing him, if you take time to look into his thread or the romance threads. I'll say that there is a diminished level of interest based on appearance in some cases. I doubt there would be a huge following for a Hanar LI in ME4. Sometimes our own perception slants the line, though. I was very surprised how much demand there was on the BSN for Iron Bull as a love interest, too. I said that earlier in this thread, I believe. It's there, though, you don't have to look far for it. You can't argue with fact when it's staring you in the face.

I just don't see how it would kill them to throw in a guy with hair in the party.  The Arishok had hair and horns.  And two eyes.

Oh sweetie, sometimes I'm just bored and being stupid.

Look, if the bf were here I wouldn't be online and posting, but he's not so I'm just having fun.  I do think that many "fans" get excited because the writing is just that great they are deep enough to actually care about the plot.  I know, right?  Solas is interesting.

They can look past that and want to date someone interesting, in spite of the Nosferatu thing he has going and that's very cool.  People in real life and in fiction/games become more attractive the more you know about them.

By the end of DA: II I wanted to have the Arishok's babies in spite of the horns.

But, as I said the way they write for women is painful.  Alistair drop kicks you, don't get me started on Mass Effect, Cullen is your romanceable straightie (if you're into that) but he's a prude and he's not a companion.

I dunno...

It would be nice if at times there was more of a thought into asking women (and men): what do you like?  What would let you escape from your cubicle driven mochacinno life for 3 hours?

I have theory, that is probably inspierd by a great lack of sleep. Bioware designed Solas like a Nosferatu to overthrough the twilight vempiers from the throne of vempiers and bring back the popularity of Nosferatu. If thats the case I'm totally pro the Nosferatu look. Although I think they would have had an easier time if they chose the Dracula look instead...

I think that's a bit misleading. Most men in that situation are fighting how others view their baldness. Bald men are seen as older and aggressive, even if they're reticent twenty-somethings hoping to find a mate in their own age group. More than just being a hairstyle, it's a brand on your character. You cannot fight the stereotype, so you fight hair loss.

Is dark skin bad or something? Is that point really worthy of "ON TOP OF THAT," written in angry all-caps?

Also I suspect that the only race-gated romances are going to be Varric and Iron Bull, but don't quote me.

Ok how about the fact she looks like a badly dressed ugly Christmas ornament?

Exactly, i dealt with Sera being female only but with race gating narrowing down the list even more, its going to be a pain. Im still confused as to what stopped them from making the companions player sexual.

Im hoping race gating is only due to issues between the varying heights, otherwise i dont really see a reason for it to be included because more negative comes out of it than positive

I don't think anyone understands that.  I certainly don't.

There was no downside at all to DA2's approach.

I do it's called laziness.  If they make them completely Straight or Gay they don't have to write double dialogs and don’t have to worry about writing pesky things like love triangles.  Which as it stands now is an impossibility for party members.

?

Love triangles are a possibliity. A straight and Gay companion can conflict over a bisexual PC. (Cassandra and Dorian, Cassandra and IB, Dorian and IB, IB and Sera there's at least 4 conflicts without needing all the companions to be bi.)

I loved DA2's way don't get me wrong. But I don't see how double the LIs can be seen as lazy =/

I'm not sure this is really the case. They still have to write double dialogue for four bi characters. Which is just as much as they had to write for DA2. But then they have four other romances on top of that. That's more romance and more dialogue for romance-specific content than any game in Bioware's history.

That's not laziness. It's arguably throwing more resources into something that's constantly been defined as optional content and not the focal point of the developers or writers mindset. I don't have 100% positive things to say about the reality of this, but I certainly wouldn't call it laziness.
