I do it's called laziness.  If they make them completely Straight or Gay they don't have to write double dialogs and don’t have to worry about writing pesky things like love triangles.  Which as it stands now is an impossibility for party members.

They never did it before in DA2, the scripts were  the same with pronouns changed. Assuming you were implying that DA2 actually had "double dialog"

I'm not sure this is really the case. They still have to write double dialogue for four bi characters. Which is just as much as they had to write for DA2. But then they have four other romances on top of that. That's more romance and more dialogue for romance-specific content than any game in Bioware's history.

That's not laziness. It's arguably throwing more resources into something that's constantly been defined as optional content and not the focal point of the developers or writers mindset. I don't have 100% positive things to say about the reality of this, but I certainly wouldn't call it laziness.

Remember when they said Romances aren't a huge focus this time around? I understand that the fanbase more or less decides the marketing, but christ almighty can they ease up a bit?

Bethesda doesn't have romances though...least I haven't noticed any...

Did I miss something? I mean the closest you got is KOTOR2 but that was more of a crush that went unresolved. (on the f/m side anyway).

Skyrim, their most recent game, has some kind of marriage system, though it's fairly empty as far as I can tell. KotOR 2 is Obsidian, not Bethesda. (I get why the association is made with New Vegas, but I'm surprised to see it for KotOR 2.)

I've read that some of the DA2 dialogue does vary, although not having done it myself, I'm not sure of the details. If someone had a list out of the script or something, that would be interesting.

Go listen to the recording of the romance panel at GaymerX and find out how they create their romances.  It will clear up the misconceptions in this thread.

Oh ****. I always get that confused. XD

Skyrim's marriages are not really romances. They're make me food and me money machines XD.

<sees pages calling Iron Bull a monster and Solas "Nosferatu.">

Hmm...

It has a tiny head, huge horns, broad muscular body, one eye and is covered in scars. How is that not a freaking demon?

I could live with one eye, because hey:

But the sight of IB does not evoke any romantic feelings in me. He might be fun as a companion. Nothing against that. But come on. That is beyond "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Solas is a better test of that expression.

Yes the Iron Bull looks more like satan than say the Arishok.  I think its the lack of hair and the size of the horns, maybe.

Damn I mean he's not exactly hitting my HOT buttons but I'm okay with mancing him?

It's probably cause I got that threesome romance ending with Ruka and Kouichi <3

considering one of the most popular Mass Effect romances for straight women was an Alien bird raptor with skin like toughened leather and insect like mandibles, I and many others, fail to see your point.

Again, a lot of jumping on the 'ugh' wagon before we've yet to experience the characters or the romance aspects.

And for role playing wouldn't it make sense to romance a fem or male qunari PC with someone like Iron Bull? Does no one give a shit about role playing in Dragon Age?

Role playing doesn't mean all qunari PCs would be attracted to the bull. He's large and scarred even by Qunari standards.

I mean...I get your frustration but RP means different things to different people.

I can't imagine what a few of these posters would have thought about Garrus before his announcement as a LI for ME2...

Hardly a fair comparison considering Garrus actually had history with Shepard from ME1 and we knew his personality. The same can't be really said for IB and Solas.

yeah I get that Ryz, but c'mon he's getting dismissed without these people even having played the game. I might have thought I'd never hit Garrus as hard as I did based on his looks and description from Bioware, but yeah I did, and it's still my favourite Bioware romance.

I know. I just hate the "you should RP like this" lines and I felt you were getting a little too close to that.

To be fair again with Garrus many players knew him from ME1. (Hell you can't even romance Garrus unless you have a new import (which assumes you recruited him in ME1) or did recruit him in ME1. The relationship was hardly based off "oooh you're sexy" as much as it was mutual respect and trust. (which imo it's an awesome romance and something I really hope we get with Solas). He was after all made a romance cause fan demand. So to me it's not really the same? It'd be more equal to Varric becoming an LI really.

I mean I get being upset because of snap judgements but honestly I can't say I completely disagree. Most of the male LIs do nothing for me which is why I'm hoping they're stories are awesome to make up for it. And since these aren't established characters like Garrus and Tali we really don't know what we're going to get so I can understand some of the concern.

I do wish it was worded a bit less strongly though. =/

Do me a favor: Ask someone on the forums that hasn't played the ME games what they think of a picture of Garrus.  No description about the character whatsoever, no mention of his personality, just that picture stating this is a straight LI for women in Mass Effect 2.

Not everyone in the forums has played the ME games and I didn't play the games myself until about two months ago.  I had blocked out pretty much all ME talk, because I didn't understand the context of what anyone was talking about.  I was also never shown a picture of Garrus before I played.  I didn't google any information about the companions because I wanted to be surprised.

That's why it's a fair comparison.  Find those posters and please get back to me.

I would never dictate how someone RP's but isn't it logical to have a range of romances available from different races given that you can play different races? That's all I was really saying. If all people want to play is humans romancing other humans with attractive pixels and relatively ordinary backgrounds and stories, so be it, I don't really care. Me, though? I prefer something totally out of the ordinary, I like drama, I like angst, I like a lot of humour and fun and to mix things up a bit with gender and sexuality, I love being able to play as my own gender but I'm open to other paths if they seem interesting enough for me.

Ah true.

Fair enough.

Except there's plenty of players who did not romance Garrus because he was a giant bird thing. Story with Shepard be damned. Yes there's plenty who find him hot but there's plenty who are also were do not want. So you're right it's a fair comparison. And people are just as liable to find IB and Solas attractive (there are plenty in their threads) just like there's plenty liable to go (ugh really?) like there are here. So yes my fault for not reading the comparison correctly.

Some people (hell most!) don't play races other than humans. There's nothing wrong with that. I mean I get it really I do I love playing elves and I'm going to play the heck out of some femqunari but most people are comfortable picking human and sticking with it. A lot of people pick the generic options (such as soldier in ME being played more than every other class combined). And there's nothing wrong with playing like that. And I don't see it as illogical either. They get different value out of the game from you is all.

Edit: Wait unless you meant the LIs were other than humans...in which case I don't think anyone has an issue with that. We've had attractive members from other races before.

Still, there was those that did love to romance him.  Why?  They played the game and got to know him.  Many stopped noticing his alien appearance in light of how he was.  I can imagine that their were players that didn't find Garrus to their taste.  However, I can't help but wonder how many changed their minds about a romance with him after meeting him.

I'd wait until the game comes out at this point.  Otherwise, you're just stressing yourself like mad and it could sour the game too much before it comes out.  This is BioWare we're talking about, and they are great at making decent characters.  Try getting to know them before you write them off completely, is all I'm saying.

That picture is a MTG card and a minotaur so neither demon nor devil to be exact.

Iron Bull looks awesome btw.

Garrus was awesome. Not "hot", but awesome. And he did look normal for his species. Iron Bull is ugly even compared to other Qunari. Even his proportions are wrong with that tiny head of his, which looks even tinier because his horns are larger than average and stick out to the side instead of to the back like with the Arishok and other DA2 Qunari. Maybe his character will surprise me and I will have to take all this back, but I still don't think the comparison with Garrus is completely valid and I honestly cannot picture a romance attempt with THAT with anything but a Qunari PC. My elf will steer clear.

Oh I know I agree with you. I'm just saying there's some who are do not want and it doesn't bother me and I get it. And yeah I'm sure there's some that changed their mind hell my first reaction to Solas was nosferatu (That and Nicholas Cage) until I read his interview. Then his looks became second fiddle to him sounding like exactly my favorite kind of love interest.

Honestly these are the pre release forums. XD Stressing ourselves when we could just wait is part of the MO of most people on here. And yes agreed. But people have preferences and some of them will turn out to be right. Usually getting my frustration out soon let's me enjoy the game more :P

?

Love triangles are a possibliity. A straight and Gay companion can conflict over a bisexual PC. (Cassandra and Dorian, Cassandra and IB, Dorian and IB, IB and Sera there's at least 4 conflicts without needing all the companions to be bi.)

I just realized that I am going to have no love triangles in my playthroughs. No two guys fighting over my female PC because Cullen is stuck at base. :(

I know :(

Hopefully one of the last LIs is a male LI so we can get one fight at least? *crosses fingers*

Well or more like a snarky comment with IB not realizing he's been insulted til an hour later if it's who I hope <3

I personaly have no intrest what so ever in the Iron bull. I don't mean to offend, he seems like a really cool character. Its just that no self respecting woman would want to date a guy that beds everything that moves.

Poor, poor, poor choice of words there. I'm no woman but as a cisgendered heterosexual man I think I can still safely say that any self-respecting human being will decide on their own what kind of person they'll love, have feelings for, and that there is no measure that someone else can set to dictate otherwise.

There are plenty of ladies here who are heterosexual, interested in Iron Bull along with men who have a history in the bedroom, and have plenty of respect for themselves along with others.

Can we avoid statements like the bolded and quoted in the future? Reading that made me cringe.

Anyway, from what I've gathered over the last few months, it seems quite a few women here are happy with the potential options they'll have. Now we're slowly getting more information on who's available for what kind of protagonist(race, gender, etc etc), so to all you ladies here, hope you get to have a relationship with the kind of guy you're looking for! :)

@Ryz I meant because we have diversity in PC it makes perfect sense to have diversity in LI, now whether you find them attractive or not no matter how you rp is another thing!

I'm getting irate at people saying they're not there or they aren't catering to their particular aesthetic or worse still the OP saying crap like 'any self respecting woman blah blah blah' seriously? 'Any self respecting woman'? *smh*

Consider my jimmies well and truly rustled.
