Can we avoid statements like the bolded and quoted in the future? Reading that made me cringe

It's a phrase and you're being way too sensitive.  No self respecting female would be caught dead in white after labor day.  No self respecting female would be caught dead at a Kim Kardassian fashion show,  No self respecting female would wear shorts that give her a muffin top etc.

It's just a phrase that people say.  Haven't you ever heard it before?

I think this is one of the most literal and overly sensitive forums I've ever been on.  It's like walking on egg shells at times. There is no such thing as just talking **** on here.  It has to be a disseration based on correct and sensitive wording that never generalizes or never is humorous.

Do not ever ever go to the Dlisted website and read ANYTHING MichaelK has to say or you'll fall over dead!  Seriously.

Anyway, she's said she's from a foreign country and English is her third language meaning she may be from a different culture where being a trick aint respectable.

@Ryz I meant because we have diversity in PC it makes perfect sense to have diversity in LI, now whether you find them attractive or not no matter how you rp is another thing!

I'm getting irate at people saying they're not there or they aren't catering to their particular aesthetic or worse still the OP saying crap like 'any self respecting woman blah blah blah' seriously? 'Any self respecting woman'? *smh*

Consider my jimmies well and truly rustled.

Your jimmies get rustled easy.  It's a phrase.  That's it.  Do you believe everyone is 100% serious and literal 100% of the time?  Is there no room in your world for rants or hyperbole?

Here's one: No respecting person would eat milk chocolate.

Am I serious?

No self respecting person would eat mayonaise on their tuna fish sandwich.  I judge people who do that.

I don't think anyone was arguing that. You can have diversity and still find the LIs attractive somewhat. (Of course personal preference comes in to play as well.)

But if they're not catering to their aesthetic I don't see the problem with them saying it. Though yeah the self respecting line was an exaggeration. But really the only guy I find attractive is Cullen. I'll romance them all because their stories sound interesting but yeah.

lol

I think the way some people have worded their complaints is really unfortunate, but I don't think telling people to just "get to know the characters" works for everyone. I wouldn't have romanced Garrus or Thane after getting to know them. I wouldn't romance Varric after getting to know him. 2/3 of those characters are really appealing to me, but on a purely platonic level. They'll never be physically attractive to me, so I'm not interested in romancing them. I have no doubt that Iron Bull is in the same boat, for me. I don't think it's necessarily wrong or shocking for someone to say they find an alien looking character unattractive, it's just going overboard with it and claiming to speak for everyone (or at least the large majority) that's the problem. People should just explain civilly what they don't like and suggest what they do want. Maybe Bioware will consider it and maybe not. They collect info on who is or isn't romanced, though, so unpopular choices are likely to go the way of Thane and Jacob, for better or worse. If a character does get a lot of hits, though, nobody's individual impressions of ideal beauty is probably going to sway them and everyone just needs to accept that.

Have you considered that this isn't the best place for you to post, then, given that people are finding pretty big issues with nearly everything you're writing about?

I mean, go ahead and keep expressing your opinion if you wish, but it sounds pretty quixotic to me - and fighting against an "overly sensitive" culture like the BSN's must be exhausting.

I don't really see how something comparable to what happened with Thane or Jacob could happen in DA. Even if it's a similar situation, since you don't play the same character in each game, I don't think it really has the same effect.

I really don't know, you seem to say some things that easily rile or appear like you're being serious and when people react you say 'why so serious' 'lighten up'.

So from now on everything you say from this point on I won't take seriously. That should make both of us happy.

They would probably just not make a similar relationship, unlike Cullen who could nearly be Alistair's twin brother.

It might just be a phrase, but it's a pretty insulting phrase when there are straight women here who (a) are interested in romancing Iron Bull and (B) respect themselves just fine. If you don't like Iron Bull's looks or attitude towards sex, that's okay. Have an opinion. But people's backs are up 'cause you're phrasing like if you don't like, say, Iron Bull, then other women don't either.

And I know you didn't intend it very seriously, but it doesn't sound like a joke when in this context. It's obvious it's a joke when talking about milk chocolate. "Self-respecting women don't sleep with players" is a loaded phrase that actually comes up in real life where people mean it very seriously to shame women for having sex.

PS. Just because I might agree Chris Hemsworth is "objectively handsome" doesn't mean I actually want a romance with someone who looks like that. See, my personal opinion is in terms of video games romances I'd prefer someone who doesn't look like eyecandy. I thought Kaidan was objectively the most handsome character in Mass Effect, but I've never romanced him. Thane is my favourite romance, in fact.

Its the generalisations that annoy. People like different things, are attracted to different looks and people like to rp differently, perfectly reasonable. Personally speaking if we had only Cullen clones as romance options my Bugquisitor would be forever alone. :P
