I have been 16 hours real time on Novaria but up till this point been going ok. I have gained controll of the Mako and not been killed in it on this planet, (smiles), and I have waded thru to the bun fight with Liara's old lady (she must be old), and suffered much humiliation. The cut scenes disorient me a lot and I keep getting hit before I can find cover.
Too tired to continue any more tonite. It's a case of 3 quick deaths in a row that leave me wishing I had brought Ashley along instead of Kaiden.
I have to learn to manage my shields and my party better and quicker but so many controlls and or options. At this rate finishing the game is going to be like 300 or more hours. Lucky I have the time. This is the toughest game I ever played and this on casual. Hard to comprehend hoe it can be played on insanity or nightmare
I have reached lvl 18, what armour and upgrades are best to have against her. ?Image IPB

It's most important to not concentrate on her, but the minions she spawns, that will lower her powerbar.

The best way to approach this fight would be with lift, singularity and the special ability that depletes shields. Give your partymembers the armor piercing rounds that do +x% damage to synthetic enemies to take care of the geth, yourself the rounds that do +x% damage to fleshy targets and concentrate on the asari commandos. If they are visible to you, hit'em with lift to be safe of their biotics and shoot them, while they are in mid air.

Hold the spacebar to pause the game, klick and hold the right mousebutton to look around while paused and target the enemies with abillities. Also use it to take your time aiming, if you've problems with that.

Don't know about the XBox-Controls, but if you figure out what is what, it's the same.

you want to stay mostly ouy of benezia's line of sight, you don't have to actually fight her to beat her and it's unadvisable at low levels. instead focus on the commandos and the geth. after the first cutscene don't look for cover around you just run down the catwalk to the right and find cover at the next junction.

you're out of benezia's LOS (mostly) and now the game turns into more of a classic shooter with you popping out from behind cover to take down commandos and what not. the commanos will throw biotics at you (throw and warp) so take cover if you see them light up with blue but otherwise.... just keep hitting them with proton rounds, shields or no shields those rounds will cause damage and are excellent at lower levels.

also having some biotics with you (somebody with throw or some other crowd control) to stop the commandos in their tracks is also really good.

after the first batch we see another benezia cutscene (she's waving her hands around all scary like Image IPB  but as long as your out of her LOS she can't touch you). anyway... after the first batch you get another batch of commandos (this time supported by geth snipers) and it's pretty much the same thing. from your junction/cover area you need to go up the stairs to your right (use sprint/storm) to the next junction. use cover and pop out and shoot the snipers/commandos.

kill them and another cutscene shows up (this one shows the matriach getting really weak). the geth and commandos are scattered but most of them are back at the previous junction (on the other side of the catwalk you just crossed). throw a ton of cc on them and send your squadmates ahead (hopefully you have a tank type character with you - if not, use lots off cc) and just blast away until they all die

benezia is fallen, cutscene/interact scene with her (especially interesting if you have liara with you) but afterwards you get ambushed one last time by commandos so run down the catwalk to your left, find cover at the junction, and do exactly what you've been doing the entire time

if you start to get overrun, head to the next junction and just keep going from cover to cover and eventually you will come out on top

again proton ammo works best and making sure that all your squadmates have some form of health regen is a bonus

The boxes in the corners will more or less shield you from benezia, so like the other said, take cover and blast the commandos as they rush you. Then take out the Geth at the corners. The commandos are actually fairly weak, just don't let the run away to heal.

And save before you start the fight. On occasion a biotic power can knock you over the railing and you'll get stuck.

I found if you equip the upgrades that increase your physics threshold it beefs you up against throw and other biotics. I used that when I played on veteran since almost at the start I got knocked out by throw and couldnt heal my other party members.

i play on insanity so this battle is always tough. i haven't died from it in a very long time by doing this....

run to the right, then left, and get on the raised platform on the opposite side of the room behind benezia. crouch and let the enemies come to you. its as simple and easy as that. i hope your using biotics, becasue they help with the CC in this battle excellently.

Thanks all, I just surfaced. I am playing as a soldier, I understand now that this game is not a simple slug fest but very tactical and weave and duck for cover against mass effect weapons is the only way.

I have Liara with me and on the first time I levelled her up there were a lot of points to allocate so I maxed her out with singularity I think at the expense of lift and the other one that says can only be used manually by me.stasis i think is not unlocked for Liara.

So will Liara use singularity automatically or do I have to target an area for her?

Do I have to do this with everyone.?

It takes a lot of getting used to,

Getting wiped out so often is a bit of a game killer but I am saving virtually every time I hear "all clear commander" as replaying some of my winning ground is vey tiring at this point in my skill level .

anyways

appreciate the sage advice

There is an option somewhere that lets you squad use powers on their own, or only when you order them to. Tactically, you are MUCH better off manually ordering them to do things. You just have to use the pause frequently, and remember that you can look around while paused so you can target powers (yours or squadmates) at the right location.

And yes, cover is vital. If you're not in cover, you should be moving (perpendicularly to incoming gunfire). If you stand around, you'll get gunned down, even on lower difficulty levels.

Yeah I have that set to use own,but I will experiment though it usually costs me my ass and a replay, not that it matters so long as it does not happen too many times in a row.

I have completed Novaria this morning and spent all day getting most assignments in Citadel. Its quite a task. Think I only missed 4 keepers, so that is incomplete.

Never to Emilt I planted the bug., and I missed Rear Admiral Kahoku.

I took off for Virmire but have aborted the game just after the drop. I changed my mind about this being my next location as I got the impression that this would be really tough and I decided to something less frenetic if there are such places in this game.
