How is wanting to be free, a belief in supremacy?

Tevinter. I'm pretty sure most mages have a similar ideology.

At least if BW decides to portray them in a negative way.

Ummm why would a 3rd option be stuffed down the players throat? It's not like you wouldn't be able to choose the others

What I meant was the 3rd possibility (a compromise) would actually be forced upon players, and they wouldn't be able to actually achieve the goal of either the Templars or the Mages. As some have said, they expect that you can nominally side with one of them, but ultimately have to unite the two and acknowledge the demands of the other partially.

As for why, so many people complained about the inability to force a compromise in the last game, that it seems very likely that one of the responses may be a forced compromise; I certainly hope that doesn't happen.

Did we really need the WW2 analogy? You could have just easily said "It's like picking between a sunburn vs an indigestion. Both are unpleasant, but one is worse."
But NO, commies and Nazis away!

Well, she compared the mages to the Soviets. I woudn't be personally flattered by the comparison.

We might see it ourselves, but the implications as pretty clear. Unless you think that the mages react to something it was done to them, which the info already proved wrong at least for some cases.
For the last part, I think It'd be better to give up on this. Mike already talked during the GI coverage in putting mages and templars on the same level.

A position that I consider nothing short of morally deranged. Hopefully it can be refuted in-game.

The mages only believe in their survival right now. That's the whole point of the war.

I doubt that's the whole story.

Answer, it sure as hell isn't supremacy.

Honestly, i'm gonna side with the templars just so I can hunt down Adrian on the battlefield, and make sure that the Inquisitor is the last thing she ever sees upon Thedas.

Attero Dominatus! (And yes, I'm aware the Latin is bad).

Asunder is fun-der. I recommend it much more than I do TME.

Meh, I'll probably pick mages but fireball Adrian the first chance I get...vile woman.

Bioware isn't trying to satisfy the bias view of some of their fanbase

Right, I'm sure the people capable of conjuring stuff with their minds are only interested in equality.

On another topic, Prince Corbinian Vael's request of 100 Sovereigns so he can reclaim his lands seems very genuine. He even says he'll repay me threefold.

I guess I'd go with this opinion since you've read both novels.  Any particular reason for TME though?

It's a pity this genre doesn't really support the 'long term plan'.  I often feel like we end up playing the origin story over and over on a loop.

Even a trilogy like ME was basically three repetitions of 'start with nothing, gain allies/resources, beat the badguy'.

It would be nice to have an instance where the mid/late game "Oh SNAP!" was something we planned and executed for a change, rather than yet another surprise from the antagonist or betrayal from a trusted ally, or whatever.  We always end up being reactive instead of proactive.

I'd love a situation where you have a chat with your advisors early on to the effect of "Faction A has something we really need, but their leadership is totes craycray, so I want you three to put your heads together and come up with a plan that eliminates the leadership while putting their forces directly under our command.'  And then put that plan in motion, perhaps with side-objectives during regular missions or just plain out side missions so that at the appropriate moment when the lunatics are about to pull their face/heel turn, we cut them off at the knees or whatever.

Instead of the usual "Oh no, I supported the Templars/Mages and now Meredith/Orsino has gone off the deep end and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz*snort*zzzz" twist.

Oh, please. She's no worse than many members of our own parties.

Note that the word I used was "survival."

...yeah, that sounds like the sort of effective Lannister money management we've grown to love over the last couple of books. ;)

I still think the worst example is how you can't get the golem forge without being able to kill Branka once she makes the crown for you.

Aw, but we haven't done this in so long.

Can you honestly tell me social groups won't use advantages to their benefit?

Can you honestly tell me how imprisoning people who aren't guilty of anything out of "they be taking our jobs!" paranoia is justifiable?

Another fine example.  "Thanks, you've done what I needed, and your service as Paragon has been appreciated, but there is absolutely no way I am leaving a complete nutjob like you in charge of this thing.  *shiv*.  Now, let's find someone we trust to run this operation."

I could write you a thesis correlating human groups and sense of preservation with the building of societies and how all are threatened by the presence of mages and then use current and historical moral positions and theories to present an argument as to why the Circle system is justified.

This is real Zuber and Holmes level stuff here.
