This is an interesting thread.

Not that it'll do any good.

Most of the mods prefer to just accuse users of doing crap they had nothing to do with. Just in my experience, not meaning to generalize. And then when you try and assure them, they just stop responding to you. I think EA's ego and self righteous attitude is rubbing off on Bioware thus the company's mods. We're all guilty by association.

Get use to it. Because it's not going to change.

That's why I only spawn on here once every few weeks to a few months.

Basically whenever there's new news on any future games such as DA:I. Otherwise, the BSN lost it's worth about two years ago.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here, or if you're arguing Spi's point/agreeing but there is absolutely special treatment given to some groups/people on the BSN. You'd have to be blind not to see it.

Mayhaps. Or perhaps its more likely that the varying situations and different mods have resulted in just that: variance. I mean, just look at the responses in this thread. We have unbridled optimism on the one hand and somewhat unsurprising bitterness on the other. You can expect the same variation from anything comprised of a number of people, the mods are no different. They don't group together and form a consensus on how to deal with the problem at hand (I'll hope for the sake of the argument they don't anyways). And the site rules aren't just some manual they can look up to tell them exactly how to deal with an issue and all its specifications.

I'll admit that I don't leave off topic too often these days so I'm no real judge for it all, but I'm not seeing how 'special treatment' could be a thing. Especially not when there are more likely explanations.

Are you sure about this?

I don't think I'm being bitter, I'm fine tbh. Just being honest from what not only what I've seen and been through, but many others around me as well.

Absolutely. The site rules are guidelines for forum members to follow with the intent of keeping the forum clean and making it a positive place to post thoughts, ideas, concerns, have conversations, etc etc. The site rules are not a list of specific punishments for moderators to dole out to members regardless of circumstances(ex- spam post=3 day suspension, spam image=1 day suspension, etc etc)

For perspective, if most of your exposure is towards those that are often violating the rules, you're going to get a skewed perspective.  Most people feel I'm unfairly picking on them, even when I break up a fight between two different people.  I'm doing a bad job because I let the other side get away with so much more while I'm draconian towards them.

You also have to be careful of group perspectives.  If 8 people are all actively posting about a controversial subject, or worse targeting an individual, the chances of one person making a violation goes up.  But a violation against one is perceived as a violation against all.

Furthermore, if a poster has a history of being difficult, I'm going to take notice when I see the poster come up.  So if you are constantly flirting the lines of forum rules and/or consistently receive moderation, there's going to be two things working against you:

  1. Your posts are more likely to be reported.  This is also an issue if you happen to be a target, too.  It also increases the likelihood of you getting caught in the blast because when I investigate a report, I typically read the thread, and I'll investigate for circumstances that indicates that they are deliberately targeting someone.
  2. My leniency is going to be limited if you're a repeat offender.  Especially if there's other conflating variables such as a history of alt accounts and frequently interacting with others that are often also violating forum rules.

Translation: Your "crowd" is crap because the mods know oh so much about everything and everyone. That you should find different people to hangout with because they are such an imperfect significance. To trust the mods' judgement because they can read and comprehend every poster so well. They *know* that they are right and you are wrong. No matter what you say or attempt to do, they really don't care.

Some of us have been on here for years, and the mods don't believe that people are subject to change. If you screwed up or "got carried away with jokes" one time or even a few times in the past, you are forever branded as a "trouble maker". Even if you literally had nothing to do with the current new issue at hand.

They perceive satirical humor like a plague and they attempt to "quarantine" it by shipping people off into the "rotten apple" group. And going crazy on the ban and finger pointing hammers.

As I said before, the mods will just dodge the concern here and proceed to "educate" us on how our perception is wrong and theirs is right. Almost feels like they possess apprehension towards change or fear to know how bad of a job they're really doing. Instead of actually trying to work issues out, they just ban you and delete your post. Oh yeah, what a great way to solve problems.

The mods also don't understand (even after being told multiple times) that to some people, this site is.. was, like a home or a retreat.

As I mentioned, some people have been on this site for sometime. Some really really amazing friendships are made here. I've known people on here that ended up dating, meeting up, being together for years. End up getting married and have kids together. Living together. And they met on this site.

So when the BSN turns into the Third Reich, of course some of us are going to get defensive and turn out twisted sense of humor towards the mods.

But some of us just gave up after awhile. Abandoned our profiles. All the perfect moments were gone. Everything mattered just became covered in dust.

And now when we come back on here once every few weeks to a few months, we are automatically under indictment of being involved with something recent that the mods didn't agree with.

It's a damn shame honestly. The mods lack conviction and they damn well know it.
