So I was playing Mass Effect this afternoon and was struck by what a great job the game does of having compelling stories with interesting consequences and just over all great characters. Now I don't personally have Joss Wheadon's phone number, but rumor has it that he had more than one season ready to go for Firefly. I think someone who can investigate picking up franchises might want to look into gobbling up the Firefly franchise.

I can distinctly imagine some layover between the Mass Effect story telling strengths, narrative structure, and down right interesting gameplay working in favor of Firefly. Now granted, Firefly don't have no shiny shields or particularly fancy hand guns most times a gun fight is rougher and quicker than some of the Mass Effect "boss" maps. But I can't see how that's a problem since it might make for a somewhat more mixed experience where social graces might be played up a bit more and a paragon would be most like not to be needing to draw his gun.

Anyhow, I could go on but really it's not my call to make. Please someone pass this suggestion up the water cooler chain. I think you'd be mighty surprised by how receptive folk's it'd be to getting their a Firefly to rival Captain Tight Pants himself. Or get themselves out of a sticky situation with a well greased 9 iron instead of some shiny light gun.

Fox says no. (would be my guess, they own the rights, not Joss).

Dune or The Matrix are my suggestions for adapting another intellectual property into a Bioware RPG.

I believe Bioware originally created the DA franchise, as their own IP, precisely because they were sick of  the complexities of dealing with others' intellectual property. And I think much the same was true for ME? Wasn't it?

The obvious problem is that someone else, with legally enforceable rights, always has views and opinions on everything.

Honestly, I don't really want Bioware to go through all the legal complexity of dealing with outside IPs (With the possible exception of another Star Wars game)

That said, I wouldn't be opposed to Bioware creating a setting inspired by Firefly and setting a game there.

Agreed. Futuristic, space travel setting with a Wild West flair. Cowboy Bebop-Firefly kind of feel.

But to copy the IP exactly?
