Was it worth to include all these different races when most people even on this forum where the hardcore

fans are will pick human ?

What do you think? Why do people pick human?

I picked human noble in DA:O only because it made the most sense to me storywise (motiviation for joining grey wardens, arl howe main villian in the story..)

I'm definitely planning on picking Qunari this time but if the story is better if you are human (DA:I in the beginning :human only) then I will reconsider

So what do you think?

People tend to drift to what's familiar. While the majority pick humans, there's still a very large accumulated group of people who are huge fans of race selection. So yes, it was worth it to include options.

Personally, I don't give a damn about familiarity or relatability. I simply find mixing my characters up each game and roleplaying as something outside myself much more interesting.

People pick human because they are human?

I can't really put my finger on why I prefer human characters.

It does make me feel boring though.

It's all about what's comfortable with you. One of my friends likes to create himself as an avatar in the game thus, he's most comfortable with being human, as I'm sure everyone who likes humans are. Me on the other hand, Ilove to roleplay and out of the races I've always felt akin to Elves the most, while I will most definitely try out Qunari at some point, Elves are definitely my first playthrough.

I think most people pick Human/Elves.

It's not like we've had choice since Origins anyway, and everyone loved the dwarf/dalish/city elf origins and I think most people would try them at least once.

Qunari is going to be awesome to try too.

When I first played DAO at a friend's house I made a Human Noble, because it seemed relatively default. I was human and it just seemed natural. Later, when I bought the game I decided to change it up (since I'd seen the HN origin) and picked a City Elf. You have to remember that most players only play the game once, and often not even that (to completion, I mean). These players will overwhelmingly pick human, because it seems like the natural choice to them when presented with options they don't really understand.

Essentially I chose HN first because I had no prior knowledge of Dragon Age and the other races and how they are implemented in the lore, so I thought it would be easier to start simple, which I believed humans would be. Once I started playing elves I fell in love with the Dalish culture and the struggles of the city elves and heck I love my grumpy and insane Commoner Dwarf. Couldn't play a Female Dwarf for very long their anatomy always bothered me and heck the elves where no better, the default human shape was just made smaller and then squashed.

Regrading DA2 I was a little disappointed I couldn't have an Elvish or Dwarven as a PC, including family of course.

So to make up for it, FemQunari Inquisitor is the way i'm going in DAI (since knowing of the Qun is not required)

Followed by Elf

Then Dwarf

Maybe Human

i don't like dwarfs, elves and other xeno breeds. Qunari are interesting enough, but not as Tal-Vashoth. Except for Maraas i guess. But i think that Qunari Inquistitor will not have special voice acting because of the race.

I enjoy crafting hot human male men to ogle at during cutscenes.

However, I also like playing as female elves, male dwarves, and qunari so I'll make at least one playthrough with each.

Personally I don't understand the appeal of non-humans races. I don't find Elves interesting (in fact I find them cliched and boring) and Dwarves non relatable. Same goes for all other non-human races.

They just don't speak to me.

I am been playing rpg's since the early 90's, and I have never completed a single game with a non human.

Thousands of attempts? Probably. Deleted character within the hour due to boredom? All of em.

Well, there are a couple of half-elf and half-orc completed runs, but due to their human ancestry they just about fit my playing style.

Even if people are more likely to choose human, they can choose other races in subsequent playthroughs. The option adds value for everyone.

In fact, it probably does a lot to encourage multiple playthroughs.

I did pick human on my first playthrough of Origins, but after trying them all, I definitely prefer the City Elf one, especially as a female. In a game like Dragon Age, the culture and story can do more than race to make a character relatable. Most of the companions are human too, so I guess it's easier to fit in?

To each their own, I don't disrespect anybody who dislikes races and just like playing humans, sometimes that's just how you'd like to play, no harm in that, everyone has different tastes.

Personally, it sucks that they put so much resource into making multiple races and that people will still probably default to human becuase of a variety of reasons. Some aren't even interested to play a second gamethrough on a different race which i think for me, was one of the sellign points of DA:O the fact that i had so many origins/races/gender/class combinations was what made that game last three years for me. So I can see a lot of my time invested in DA:I just to play through the eyes of all races.

I did the same thing and it made me realize something important: the differences are purely cosmetic. Human, Elf, Dwarf, Kossith: they all have the potential to be decent people or utter bastards.

Exactly, they are all cosmetic and some even delve into the plot personally, IE if you're a City elf and you returned to the Alienage in Denerim. They're all different colors to try out and I'm the guy who likes to play with all. I just love hearing the variation in dialogue. It really calls to attention the detail they put in the game in terms of variation, and with a game as large a scale as inquisition, I can only imagine the thousands of hours (no i'm not overexaggerating) i will spend just trying out the races.

I am perfectly fine with human-only protagonists. At least in DA universe since elves, dwarfs got kind of boring back in 2004. Not to mention now in 2014. Qunari are interesting though. I am really looking forward to next ME, where there is a probability of us playing as different races, which are interesting and unique. This i like.

I aways play human first. It's just preference. Doesn't mean I won't try an secondary playthrough with an different race. I guess I like to play human because it gives me an sense of familiarity.

I always play human or sometimes elf because I can't really relate to dwarves or qunari.

I pick human because I can more easily identify with them. Though, I plan on making several Qunari Inquisitors because I really like the race and find them fascinating.

I like the Elves and Dwarves well enough, but aren't really motivated to play as them. Might still do it if your choice of race has a real impact on the way the world threats you.

Humans play humans because of familiarity. At the same time some people think dwarves, elves or any non-human race boring. I don't really understand that point of view to be honest. Most games only feature humans, if something is boring to me it is usually only being able to play as a human.

Another thing, the argument that you need multiple races to foster multiple runs of a game is kinda whack.

In DAO I had three completed runs (which honestly considering its scale is a decent number. It ain't BG/2 after all). Chaotic Good M!Cousland, DPS Warrior + True Neutral M!Amell, Buffer/Healer Magi + Lawful Evil F!Cousland, DPS Rogue.

And all three were distinctive, engaging and enjoyable gaming experiences.

And don't get me started on BG2. I have logged an unhealthy amt of hours on multiple human runs. Curse that game.

For me I pick human because that's what I am.

My main character will be a human female mage.

I will also do  at least one playthrough as an Elf, Qunari and Dwarf. Why? Because it adds replay value
