Is it possible to extract images for the area maps? Does the game use bitmaps or does it render the maps somehow? The map images in the wiki seem to be screen shots of maps that were de-fogged the hard way...

Anyway, I want to display some spacial data extracted from the toolset via SQL or logged in game (like enemy locations etc.). Having map images as underlays would make the displayed data much useful.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but the DDS files used by the game for world maps are located in [game install location\packages\core\data\gui.erf.  IIRC, the 'local' maps - including interiors - are packed in the RIM files for each area, in the subfolders of \packages\core\env.

Thanks, that's exactly what I'm looking for. I opened the first RIM in brc000d subdirectory of ./packages/core/env and browsed the DDSes; the file brc000d_mmap_ph.dds contained what looks like the map for the Dalish camp (cropped screenie, as I haven't got any suitable converter programs on my play computer at the moment):

Now I only need to work out some details like referential structure and so on...
