The normally exemplary Mr Schumacher confused me here.
Why does he need to state his own orientation?
It reveals his biases, real or perceived. It also heads off those who would object to him based on those biases.

If Cullen turns out to be bi, then my male warden mage is offended.
Because of that, I'm expecting him to be straight.
I think Cassandra and Cullen are straight but would like a confirmation on whether or not I'm right.
It is a major spoiler, and an integral part of the NPCs personality. Our sexuality helps define who we are.
Most people would rather not be defined by their sexuality. That's what gives rise to bigotry and prejudice. A person's sexuality is largely biological (there are exceptions to the rule), thus out of their control. It should have no bearing on who they are as people.
I would treat people no different were I bi or gay.
I am curious to know what options I get for a romance, but it's not the end all be all of the game.
Makes perfect sense. The complaint about sexuality is that Homosexuality is getting a disproportionate amount of coverage, The study he cites is just an example of confirmation bias and a dilation of perception in how people who disagree with the coverage right now are mistakenly perceiving the information as favoritism. The numbers themselves are entirely arbitrary because as of now, we only have two confirmed romances of what is described as the "Most Romances of any DA game" (Possibly any Bioware Game except for The Old Republic).
In this case, I think the heterosexuals feel neglected because there's been no confirmation of heterosexual romances explicitly (As in, named companions) and because this demographic is used to be catered to just as a matter of existence, it feels like some form of preferential treatment towards homosexuals. At the end of the day, the fact remains that the game is Bioware's work, and they can release information however they choose, in what order and manner they choose.
The white GSM community you mean. The minority GSM (gender sexual minority) are usually facing double racism. Both from the white GSM community aswell as their own ethnic group who are ancient in their thinking. I dont see anyway bioware is making things right for the minority GSM community, they as simply pandering to whites as usual. Prove me wrong.

Well, only one of gay love interests is white. If Vivienne or Scribbles is bisexual, there will be at least two GSM people of colour in the game. (Three if both of them are, although I doubt that will happen.)
I think Dragon Age could use more people of colour in general, though.
They are both straight, it has been confirmed
thanks for bumping a thread that didnt need to be. Considering the number of posts about those two.
It's probably more accurate to say that Cassandra is straight 'now', since unlike Cullen, who only had a crush on the Mage Warden in DAO if the Warden was female, Cassandra had a crush on the Qunari-Duel-Winning Hawke in DA2 whether male or female. It's safe to say the decision to change Cassandra from bisexual to straight wasn't an especially popular one

Wasn't this already confirmed? I thought they *were* straight?

Wrong only bro hawke gets the crush line fem hawke gets the hero worship line.
Obviously it wasn't actually a crush and just admiration like she said (or a girls crush). That doesn't mean it couldn't have been though or that she couldn't have been bi, she just turned out not to be.

Yes but that was from Varric not Cassandra. Is Varric psychic? No, he just assumed she was straight and that she had a little crush on male Hawke. As it turns out, he was right.
Question was answered already. Thread closed.
