Even if Cassandra is bisexual, she will most likely be racially restricted. Possibly two (or three?) races, human and elf would be my guesses. The whole race gate thing is a way around having to make several variations of the cinematics (as per Allan's OP from the Romance thread).

Most likely, it will be no more open than her being heterosexual (except in being available to certain female Inquisitors).

Most people play humans and elves, so it's not exactly just as restrictive. Most people of both genders would still have access.

That's just my guess. It could be dwarves and qunari. Or I could be completely wrong.

I'm just saying that there will most likely be some type of restriction, regardless of her sexuality.

I suspect that the earliest LIs will have no race restrictions.

The restrictions were so they could *add* LIs without it costing too much.

We can't know that for sure. They might have made the "race gate" decision earlier than we think.

I suspect they knew in DA 2 that Cassandra would be an LI in DA 3.

And DA3 was originally supposed to have a human-only protagonist  ;)

They didn't announce that other races would be included until a year ago, but it's unlikely that they only began planning for it at that point.

BioWare tends to withhold information until it's sure of something and has a greenlight from marketing. For example, I recall Chris shutting down a rumor thread with 'Mass Effect is an X-Box exclusive' the day before BioWare announced it would be coming out for PC in three months.

I don't know about Cass. Seem like early on, she was designed as a much older woman, more wizened and authoritarian. She had as much chance being a romance as Wynne or Eamon. Then they changed that.

May I ask why you think that way?

In the Rise to Power trailer, Cassandra is depicted with gray hair. Apparently they altered her appearance a few times. According to the Dragon Age wiki, "During the development of Dragon Age II, her hair changed from long black hair, to short white hair, to her current short black hair."

I actually think that Cassandra is very likely to be race-gated. I mean, why not?

They could make her bisexual and cut back on her cinematics budget.

The white hair?

I thought they changed it because it was too similar to Fenris' hair color and style.  Even then, she really doesn't look wizened to me.  I knew a girl in high school who's jet black hair (as a freshman) turned pure white by the time she graduated high school.

Yes, they gave her white hair to help her pop from the darkness a bit.
She's still not old looking. (Though she and Sera apparently love their eyeshadow)

Her earlier concept art also has her looking youngish. And she has those sharp cheekbones the DA I version has.

Ah, I guess they just changed it back to her concept color in the actual game.  Learn something new every night.  ;)

Why would she? I have seen no argument which makes it very likely or most likely as you have claimed. Your argument as to why she will be race gated amounts to dwarves only potentially getting Varric as a romance option. I really can't see Bioware doing this because it would make even less people play as a dwarf.

They've said nothing about each race getting an equal number of LIs. Most of us discussing Cassandra's romance are fixated on gender and just ignore race. I was merely acknowledging that she, like any other LI, could be racially restricted.

They originally weren't going to have the non-human races available to play as. They were able to add them with the year extension of dev time.

I know about the extension. However, they were doing conceptual work for multiple races prior to the extension (based on Jennifer Hepler's LinkedIn).

It seems logical that they would have decided to do race gating after they decided to add multiple races...

Just my two cents, I think race gating will most likely be for dwarf/qunari pairings, probably for animation concerns.

Humans, and possibly elves, could have no limits on race, since humans are probably used as the "baseline" for animation.
