There was a lot of personal moments interjected into the article, like when the author said "Dee said with a flash of determination in his eyes." It was a decent opinion piece, though they lost me with the last line: "Yes, but can we romance dragons?"
I cannot take seriously someone who claim to have played DAO and doesn't know who Leliana is...
<re-reads the article>
Holy crap, you're right. Even if it had been years since he'd played the game, Leliana is almost impossible to forget.
@ the author of that opinion piece:

I can see that, if they only played once. And ignored Leliana's Song, and the end of DA2....
Well, I'll forgive the end of DA2 since her name is never mentioned in the scene with her in it, unless you have subtitles on.

Fair enough, but Leliana's Song...shoot, even if you didn't play it, you'd figure such a pretty French name would stick in her (his?) mind. ![]()
Hmmm, again with the Witcher 3 Comparison. I would not put the Dragon Age series and the Witcher series in the same "RPG categories" (don't ask me what these are, they're just there, that's all). And I like both, I've played and enjoyed both but for different reasons. Most notably, since it seems to be a leitmotiv in the article, I've enjoyed discovering the romance stories in Dragon Age more than the ones in The Witcher (Why oh why wasn't Shani in Witcher 2 ?! But I digress.) and same thing with the NPCs we work with. They have far more personality in Dragon Age than The Witcher.
Oh well....
But he didn't even recognize Leliana.
I usually like Rock Paper Shotgun articles, this one is the first one I find myself having several problems with. Maybe I'm becoming a fanboy.
Oh noes.

As long as you're still being critical and thinking for yourself, which you are, then you're not a fanboy. ![]()

Some people don't play the game 100x times until they catch very single detail. I didn't know who Lelliana was after my first playthrough, because I didn't walk into the tavern where she was supposed to be recruited. If I decided that playing through the game once is enough and didn't look up all sorts of videos and wiki on the game, I wouldn't know who she is. Just saying.

I know, everyone should know who's Lelianna is since he's the one who narrated the whole story in DA2 and is the only dwarf in the game.

I KNEW it ! Same nose ! How did I not see it !?

Same chest hair also.

"Eyes are up here, lady."
"Hmm ? Ah, yes, whatever."

That's the point. BioWare made a DLC just about her, anybody who do not know Leliana didn't play DAO that much or didn't bother to inform himself about the game. In fact, I'm sure the dev mentioned it in the presentation (because other preview mention it) and he didn't even bother to remember it.
This suggest to me that the previewer either didn't play DAO/DA2 or didn't like it, while he sure likes action RPG like The Witcher 3. Basically, the only thing I know from that preview is that the guy prefer Witcher 3 type-games (action RPG with solo character) over DA franchise type of games (party-based with auto-attacks).

Not to drive this off topic, but TW3 is an Action RPG?
I'm glad to see romances/sex scenes will be done better but this guy was just comparing other games to DA which is irrelevant.
Where does he state he doesn't know who Leliana is?
I brought up the Liara relationship from Mass Effect 3, how it was less of a starry eyed space opera love affair and more of, well, a relationship. As in, with ups and downs and people being kind of passive-aggressive and shitty to each other sometimes. Lee said we should expect to encounter even more variety along those lines in Inquisition. ”It’ll feel a lot more like that, more involved. But it also depends on who you pick. Each of the different characters will have different preferences in terms of how they behave. They’re different characters, right?”

Having re-read the article, I can't see one single reference about Leliana.....but there are some good bits regarding the game.
And the characters were fine, if largely bereft of notable (let alone likable) personality aside from an archer girl who a) rescued herself from being chained up in a dungeon by
breaking a man’s neck with her legs and c) seemed to do some Valiant I’ll Hold Them Off final stand sacrifice at the end of the demo. Her personality was “badass,” which was good because otherwise she had no personality. It just felt like a Band Of Fantasy Characters.
This is the reference to Leliana. She is the 'archer girl.'

That's how everyone refer to it and the gameplay is similar to TW2 (aka very far away from TW1 RTWP combat).
Funny enough, the DA franchise is also called action RPG, but I don't think something that has auto-attack and party combat can really be called that.

Oh I see now. Ok, thanks for pointing that out....yes I taught her archery in DA:O)
