Wait, Bioware fired Aubrey Ashburn and replaced her with Trevor Morris to compose the soundtrack?

The One-Woman-Wail has defined Dragon Age music for me. I hope this new guy brings some good stuff to the table.

Er, did you mean to PERFORM the soundtrack?  Inon Zur COMPOSED the soundtrack.  It'd be nice if you provided a link to the location where you learned this piece of information.

Most of Zur's pieces never struck me as anything terribly remarkable to be honest.

We've not heard much of the soundtrack yet, except what must be the main theme, so we can't say what the rest sounds like at the moment.  Judging by that theme and his previous work though (The Tudors, Vikings, Pillars Of The Earth, Immortals, The Borgias, etc) it should be awesome.

The trouble with the soundtracks for the previous games, I think, is they seem to be padded out with every "random battle!" piece in the game instead of actual 'plot music' or 'character theme' pieces, for lack of a better way to describe them.  Those few 'proper' tracks were really good.

We know Inon Zur is gone, but we don't know if Ashburne is gone too. She very well could do some vocals for Trevor Morris.

Ummm... Didn't he make Leliana's Song?

I already knew Inon Zur wasn't rehired for a long time... and I was mostly ok with that. I understand they're going for a different feel this game... But if they didn't rehire Aubrey I would be VERY sad.

I really doubt they got rid of her, in "The Fires Above" trailer, they have someone wailing that sad DA theme. I hope its her.

The "The Fires Above" track wasn't written by Trevor Morris. It was the work of Jay Vincent. It might be trailer music. It might be just like Hi-Finesse's "Into the Light" featured in "Lead Them or Fall" trailer.

Trevor Morris being behind the soundtrack/score of Inquisition is old news.

And what's this about AA? I see nothing relating to her whatsoever.

They should have hired Jeremy Soule, the man who composed the Morrowind soundtrack. Still my favorite of all time (tied with Might and Magic VI).

I hope that AA is returning, her voice in the main menu really made the game "Dragon Age" for me in both games. If she isn't however I wouldn't mind so much. As for the new music, the new "main theme" and the "map theme" on the website *if it is indeed composed by TM* I'm liking a lot. While I loved some of the music from the previous games, none of them really really struck out to me. Only ones other than of course Leliana's Song I could list off the top of my head is Fenris' theme from DA2 because it sounded badass, loved the vocals.

But IE, none of the "Battle" music I really kept in mind. I'm hoping the battle music of DAI is more memorable. That's usually what makes an RPG musically, the battle music.

Zur will always be the king for me because of Fallout 3. The most memorable halfstep in the history of game scores. I'm not familiar with Morris' work.

I liked Zur's Work, especially in DA2 - the Soundtrack stuck with me, especially that awesome pounding Qunari Theme. Anyway, thrilled to see what the new Composer.

A bit off-topic, but did you guys see they used 'lead them or fall' trailer music in new 'Guardians of the Galaxy' trailer?

Agreed. None of his work was bad per se, but none of the songs really hooked me in. I never once stopped in the middle of nowhere just to hear a song (which I did in Skyrim) or say "I need to buy this soundtrack!" like I do with Halo.

I'm loving what I've heard so far, epic and very very fitting!  Goosebumps everytime.

Yeah, the song is called Slowly Into the Light, it's apparently stock trailer music. It may be stock trailer music but it's still badass and I think it fits well with both DA:I and GotG which I'm also equally as stoked for.

Inon Zur could have made good pieces but majority of the tracks that he composed were battle themes (the ones you heard).

I don't know what the story was behind the work. Only one of the big guys at Bioware would be able to tell us what happened with the making of the OST for the first two games.

We can only know what this new OST sounds like when we play the game.

Zur at least never used piano themes for DA! Grand piano, probably, is the last thing that comes to your mind when you think about the medieval\fantasy setting music.

DA2 used plenty of hurdy-gurdy (or it's close imitation - I can't be sure), it was epic and it was fitting. Flute, strings, drums, but not the piano!

That cello theme from the E3 was not bad, and it was somewhat connected to the older tunes, but that vid with a piano? I could only think that it sounded awfully out of place, and it also reminded me of ME3 "leaving Earth". I hope it was just a one-time trailer-only music.

Trevor Morris > Inon Zur

Honestly the music for the DA series hasn't been very memorable at all, unlike the Mass Effect games. I see this as an improvement.

Hell this track alone is better than anything Inon Zur ever produced for the series:
