Greetings guys.

As I prepare to create my first quest, I should love to ask two main questions:

Where do I create entries for the in-game journal? Is there a place where Journal Entries are created?

Another question: I need these quests to only be doable once every X ammount of days, in my case, I need them only doable once every week(seven days).

Any aid is welcome and appreciated in advance :)

View Menu -> Journal

Is this on a PW or do you mean in game time? If its the second, you could use a delaycommand to change a variable which will determine whether you can start the quest.

DelayCommand(HoursToSeconds(24 * 7), DeleteLocalInt(oTarget, "bCanStartQuest"));

It is on a Persistent World in Multiplayer.

Also, once I open the View Menu Journal - Module. How do I do to export that specific quest journal and how do I add it to an existing module with its own journals?

I need to learn how to retrieve the journals of existing modules, where are these files located?

If your work is a campaign you can have one journal for all your modules. In any case though, the jounal file is module.jrl located in every module you create. If you save in a directory mode, you can then open the module folder and find it in there. Just yesterday I wanted to test some journal related thing in my main work, but I created a new module with just one area, copied this file to this module's folder and I had my main journal in my test module.

I attempted to do that. Here's the problem I encountered.

The owner of the module sent me the module.jrl, but when I put it on my own, it was blank. Why is it blank when it is supposed to show all the quest categories the module currently has?

Am I missing something?

If you are working on a campaign module then there are actually two .jrls.  One for the module, one for the campaign.  You might want to check which you could be using.  As i recall in the toolset there is an option to select which journal you want to work with when opening it.

What is the name of the campaign journal? campaign.jrl ?

It's still called module.jrl, and it's located in the Campaign folder associated with the module.  The Campaign folder overrides whatever is in the Module folder.  If you're using a campaign, then always make your journal edits to the Campaign journal, because whatever you put in the Module journal will never show up in the game (unless the player erroneously starts a campaign as a module).

I am using a module, saved as a directory. For some reason, when I grabbed the module.jrl and went to my documents and put the file on the module's folder, opening then in the toolset showed me to be a blank journal. Whereas when I ask the owner of the original module, he tells me he does see all the quest journal entries if he does the same thing. Am I putting the file in the wrong folder or something?

If you're not using a campaign, then putting the journal file in the module folder is correct.  If it appears blank in the toolset, then try opening the module.jrl in a text editor or perhaps a GFF/TLK editor first to confirm there are actually entries in it (don't save it).

If there are entries in it, then see if you have another module.jrl anywhere in your override folder, and if so, remove it.

Will removing oter module.jrl in override folder cause any problems?

There is something in the file when I opened it with wordpad... a barely legible line:

Spoiler

Nothing else.

no. Any JRL in Override *is* a problem ..

( barring deliberate hacking )

that doesn't look good. I opened a .Jrl in Wordpad, Notepad, and Notepad++ and they all showed some legible text .....

Yes, you have an empty journal.  Your friend must have given you the wrong one.

I think the issue is that his module is saved as a campaign, and mine is as a module. What do I do?

There is a post around in a stickied thread that describes how you assosciate your module to a campaign. It's really no big deal, just follow the steps :)

Regardless of whether it's a module or campaign, you reported that your journal file is blank.  I would rectify that before seeking other solutions.

True what Tchos says. I have coppied a campaign journal to a module directory and it worked fine. The only case where I had blank journal entries, was when I had a .jrl file in my override. I don't know how you would have one there, but still... worth a check.

Hey guys! I was able to find the journal and begin questing. Thank you all for the aid thus far. Now onto a few more questions related to my first quest:

Is there a way to attach a journal entry update to a certain condition? I seek for the journal to update to a new entry when the PC acquires a certain ammount of a particular item(50).

Along the same lines, is there a script that allows me to take(or destroy) an exact number of items with a certain tag? Will it work if the player's item is stackable and has more than the wanted ammount to be destroyed?

In good english, if the player has 99 arrows and I want the script to destroy 50, will it keep the remaining 49 arrows, or destroy the complete stack? Thanks in advance!

As for the collection, Tchos has made a very powerful system. Not published but he might be able to guide you in the right direction. The destroy stackable items... I think there was recently a thread, with a solution, recently on the scripting forums. Maybe a search will provide an answer :).

Edit: I think Lance Botelle was the one with the stackables. Could be mistaken though...
