I just got a new gaming PC so it could handle what I thought was going to be the next generation of gaming with Dragon Age: Inquisition, but...
I certainly hope not...
"Oh, no! Now I have to play in regular HD! Whatever shall I do?"
*shrugs and skips on back to console land*
Apathy isn't your friend. It seems like it might be a stretch, but you might want to try seeing the significance of this, as it might just come back to haunt you. #ignorance
I hope this is NOT true and this article is just a clickbait.
If it is true, well, I would just get DA:I when it is on a discount / cheap price and pay more money for something like Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. After all, CD Projekt RED never let the Master Race down...

Couldnt care if it is true, if you think they should focus on PC your deluded, pc got more of a chance of a HD texture pack same as previous installment
I'm not sure why this would count as a "downgrade", rather than a feature that just didn't happen. I mean, are these textures supposed to have turned up in trailers or something?

This part has ring of truth to it. It's to be expected however that should that HD texture pack not be forthcoming, you can count on the community to do something about it sooner or later.
I would still prefer for the downgrade not to be true.
Alleged is in the title. No PC specs have been released,
Eh, if it works on my computer I probably wouldn't be able to play it on high graphics settings anyway.
No source for Laidlaw's comments and I see no good reason for doing this to be honest. The Devs have been saying better on next gen/best on pc for ages now and they change this because? Who would even care? Console gamers know they aren't going to get the best graphics on console.
Anyway if it is true I don't really care. As long as it looks better than DA2.
God dammit! This better not be true. How many times do we have to deal with this bullcrap? We get it, PS4 and XONE can't handle the full force of the game. Can we please stop stepping on the PC version's ability to go full on Ultra just because you guys feel that there'll be some console whiners who don't like the PC looking better?
Why can't you people just leave the option open for PC players? First Ubisoft and now Bioware. Unlike Ubisoft hopefully this is just a rumor.

How?
Also, did you even read the article? The downgrade was because of production reason, not to make consoles look better.
Battlefield 4 wasn't downgraded at all from its PC version to match the Next-Gen platforms. A maxed out PC BF4 versus a PS4 is a pretty marked difference in visuals, to say nothing of the frame rate gains if you truly have a monster that can handle it.
The article cites production reasons (Time?) for the reason for the supposed downgrade. Namely that the PC version was supposed to ship with higher resolution textures and more detailed models.
This depends entirely on what the term "Downgraded" means. Do they mean Downgraded from what's been shown, or is it downgraded from internal ambitions about maybe packing in Higher resolution textures and greater assets, similar to what TES:5 Skyrim was going to do. (Which later released High-resolution textures as a DLC, with a few bugs)
As long as the best-possible visual bar is equal to or greater than what has been shown (Screenshots, PAX, E3 demo) there's little reason to complain. If the visuals have been downgraded from that, I hope Bioware has the integrity to come out with new footage soon, as well as a statement that doesn't sidestep the issue like Ubisoft.

Exactly. If it's true, they were probably working on a special High Res texture pack for high end PC's that got scrapped. The game hasn't looked super high fidelity to me anyway. It looks good. The areas are pretty. Every game doesn't have to be Crysis.
Jesus Christ it better not be. The mysterious lack of PC interface in anything was bad enough.
Typos, syntax errors, no citations,... A downgrade would mean the final product would look worse than what was shown so far, if they never showed off the supposed planned visuals it's not a downgrade.
Also why are PC players still surprised games being prioritized on consoles?

It's less about wanting to make it look like it would make your jaw drop to the floor and more about locking settings up for the "console parity". Stop screwing with the PC settings for the sake of consoles.

The article doesn't even allege that this has happened

Because PC is the single largest market? Sure, the console platforms TOGETHER are bigger than the PC market, but PC is a BIG market. Of course, the section of PC gamers who care about All Teh Grafix is probably a rather small SLICE of that market.

PC gamers personify the "Entitled Gamer" cliche'. Feeling their investment on their machine absolutely must pay off to their expectations. I don't know one other investment where that's a truth. Except maybe COD's and Bonds if you want to talk sub 5% investment payoffs.
Having said that, if it's intentionally downgraded from a working high-fidelity version to actually match inferior hardware, that's just dumb. This article still reeks of a fluff clickbait piece. If I had to guess, I think the author is taking Laidlaw's words out of context, as it sounds like they're using his "The platforms will be virtually the same gameplay-wise" (Not verbatim) and extrapolating that to mean "PC will match Console in all ways"

You don't even know that this is what they did. IF this article is AT ALL accurate, they were probably working on a High Res texture pack (like the one they made for DA2) and they didn't have time to get it into a fully functional, stable state. Would you be HAPPIER if they released a HR pack along with a notice "this is probably unstable and will crash your computer and corrupt your files so you'll have to reinstall the game". They're looking to put out a polished product, here. That means not everything can make it into the final product because it won't be in a sufficiently polished state.
If you ask nicely, maybe they'll even manage to put out that HR pack some weeks AFTER the release, just about when you're ready to start your 2nd playthrough.
