Just thought I'd post this as I've spent days trying to resolve a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) caused by a "System_Service_Exception" error in Win 8.1. Whenever I played ME3 multiplayer online - usually when i got to levels 7 -9, I'd get a BSOD and this Win error message.
Installed all the lastest drivers, even reinstalled windows 8 (then upgraded to 8.1) in case there was a corrupt registry. Tried everything suggested in online posts and blogs about a similar issue. My PC is state of the art, no viruses or malware (always check this), no registry errors or driver incapabilities.
A number of bloggers suggested it was a ethernet driver issue - tried the solutions suggested, no success; others that it was a hardware failure (of course not when all other programs work perfectly).
Came across an obscure reference, relating to win7, and Microsoft security updates that maybe the issue. Uninstalled MS security updates for win 8, and ME3 multiplayer now works perfectly. No BSOD, or system error when playing ME3 multiplayer online.
So my advice if you are struggling with a BSOD related to a particular game playing online, in my case ME3, look at the windows 8/8.1 updates installed. Delete them all, try the game, then reinstall various updates. In my case it was the security patches, but don't be surprised if it is a different update. A bit of trial and error may be required, but it beats completely reinstalling your OS + fav programs (8 hrs) and still finding the same problem.
Hope this helps - drove me crazy for a week (ME3 is my favourite game and worked perfectly under Win 7, worked in Win 8 for a while, then just crashed (the security updates that were installed automatically in the background seem to be the cause).
